Ubuntu :: Gigabyte Mb - Jack Reallocation - Alter The Default Outputs On The Internal Sound Card?
Jan 25, 2011
I have an s series gigabyte Mother board (GA-EP35-DS3L/S3L) I have just ordered a 2.1 stereo system supplying a base and 2 desk top speakers. The default output settings on the board does not include left and right speakers. Is it possible to alter the default outputs on the internal sound card via ubuntu? Under windows there is some software gigabyte supply which enables reallocation of the output sockets. What is available for Ubuntu?
I am running Ubuntu Studio 9.10 and have been using wineasio to connect Reaper to JACK successfully for a while now. However, I am now experimenting with using multiple soundcards in JACK (via alsa_in). My main card is an M-audio delta 44 (4 inputs) and I want to route the inputs from my onboard soundcard into Reaper using JACK. No problem so far.. This all works with alsa_in. But the problem is I can't get reaper to start with more than 4 in/out.
With wineasio, there is an environment variable "ASIO_INPUTS=" and "ASIO_OUTPUTS=" which allows you to set the number of in/out... Which I already used to bump it up to 4 when the default was 2. But when I try to set the inputs to 8, for example, Reaper still only recognizes that there are 4 inputs in its configuration.
The problem here is I need more than 4 separate input tracks going into Reaper simultaneously. It would also be nice to just have some "virtual" in/out ports to route things around in more ways. Another option I have considered is the "Rearoute" drivers in Reaper, however I'm not sure if that will play well with JACK. I'll have to test it tonight and see. I guess if it doesn't connect to JACK, it may be theoretically possible to run JACK simultaneously with the Rearoute driver with Reaper, and then actually use alsa_in on the same card to bridge it to JACK (in addition to using alsa_in for the onboard soundcard inputs as well)... But if this even works, I'm not sure if the latency will be worse ...
Does anybody have any insights on this? Am I doing something wrong or overlooking something? Is this just a limitation of wine or wineasio that it cannot assign more inputs than the primary sound card physically has? Would "virtual ports" help me at all in this endeavor?
I can't get jack working soundcard chipset: EMU10k1X
Here Qjackctl log: Code: p, li { white-space: pre-wrap; } JACK server starting in non-realtime mode Cannot lock down memory area (Cannot allocate memory) control device hw:0 control device hw:0 audio_reservation_init Acquire audio card Audio0 ..... jack server is not running or cannot be started already added @audio - rtprio 99 @audio - memlock unlimited @audio - nice -19 to /etc/security/limits.conf
I am member of audio group. Realtime option unchecked. I also reinstalled ubuntu in a fresh install and the same problem.
I've spent the last couple hours trying to figure out how to get my SoundBlaster XFi card working, but somehow in the process seem to have now also broken my on-board sound which when I first installed did work. I have no idea how as I hardly touched anything. Both cards are recognized in Sound preferences, sound is not muted there nor in Alsamixer. But neither produce any sound at all now.
Searching around the forums it seems that as of now my XFi should, kind of, work out of the box, but I've had no such luck.I'd really like any advice possible on getting my XFi with headphones to work in 10.04, but if this can't be done I'd atleast like to find a way to fully reset my sound setting so my on-board will work without having to wipe this partition and reinstall - there Must be an easier solution than that.
I have noticed a few threads on getting sound to work properly. I had a problem getting my internal sound card to work on 5.1 channels and investigated the links and information given in the various threads and found that there are slight differences from the references to what I had to do. Firstly, it's a good idea to read through these links first.
Is there a way to alter the default position that windows open such that if I have an application that I want to open (for example) with the lower right corner in the lower right corner of the screen or in the middle of the screen, etc, this can be done automatically? In KDE it can be done by right clicking and adjusting application properties. I don't see how to do that in Gnome. I'm using Fedora 13 with Gnome.
The default name server set by network manager works just fine much of the time but there are times when it slows down badly. What I want to do is to have network manager add extra nameservers to the list when it starts the network.
I'm using mythbuntu 10.10 with 2 pci tuner cards and 1 SB PCI sound card. My system is detecting my tuner cards as audio devices and making one of those my default sound cardWhich file do I change to make the SB card the default sound card?
I have 2 sound cards : one is on board and other is Creative sound blaster.I want to play sounds just on Crative. The problem is when I reboot the PC the sound is change, sometime the default sound card is Creative sometime is the onboard card.I want my default sound card to be only Creative.
everytime i use alsamixer command i get only the "Master" volume control, and i see the card its using is "Pulseaudio" so i press f6 to select the sound card and i found that i have "default" and "HDA SIS966" so i wanted to know how can i change that "default" to the HDA SIS966?.i tried pressing f6 and selecting the card but when i close alsamixer and run it again i get the "default" sound card again.
i left some pics, the 1st one is what i get when i run alsamixer, the 2nd is the options i got when i try to change the sound card, and the third is what i get with the card HDA SIS966 which is the one i'm trying to get as my default.
I am having difficulty changing my default sound card in Kubuntu 11.04. I am able to use Phonon to change it for KDE applications; however, I am unable to accomplish this for VLC and Chromium.
Just curious if someone could help me with my issue, I've noticed that my internal mic doesn't work, and when I plug in headphones it stops the use of the speakers but I hear nothing through the headphones. I'm running openSUSE 11.3 and have had almost no major problems until this. I've searched around and asked a couple friends and have made absolutely no progress.
I can not set default sound card for alsa. It detects my sound card and I can play audio with xmms when I config that to use alsa and my intel sound card, but other applications which use default alsa sound card, and also pulse audio, can not play any sound.
i just got a new motherboard : gigabyte ma78lmt-s2 with amd760g chipset, athlon and 4gb ram the sound codec is hda ati sb alc887 from realteci'm now already 4 days fiddling to get the sound working in ubuntu 10.04 lts without any success / progressalso the gigabyte ma78lmt-s2 is not booting from a usb stickafter 2 weeks hopeless the ma78lmt-s2 is not recommended for linuxexchanged the gigabyte ma78lmt-s2 for a biostar a880g+ and everything works straight from start
After installing I was not able to get many of the audio programmes to work. After some reading, I realised that this was probably due to jack not starting.
I was unable to get jack to start normally but have been able to get it started with the playback only option selected. Programmes that use jack now work, however there is no sound once jack has been started. The sound does work in other programs when jack is not started. Strangely, I only have to open qjackctl for the sound to stop, and jack is not even started. Initially I thought these problems were due to my sound card not being supported, but I believe that alsa support was added for the via 1708 codec at some point. I found that support had been added in a document showing the changes between alsa versions; however I cannot find the exact model listed as a supported sound card on the alsa site.
I believe that altering jack settings could fix the problem, as i have been able to get audio to work in hydrogen by selecting plughw:0 but there is still no sound in other programs. I have tried altering many other settings but to no avail, however I do not really understand the meaning of the settings that i am adjusting.
Does anyone know what settings to adjust or know something else that might fix this problem so that sound works once jack has been started?
Also, would programmes that use jack such as audacity, hydrogen, and ardour work with pulseaudio as the main sound server if I were to install normal ubuntu - it might be worth seeing if my soundcard works with the puleaudio sound server
if this helps, here is the error message received when jack does not start when the normal duplex option is selected.
21:24:04.867 Patchbay deactivated. 21:24:04.868 Statistics reset. 21:24:04.886 ALSA connection change. Cannot connect to server socket err = Connection refused

also, when i open alsamixer in the terminal for some reason the headphone part is greyed out, even when the sound is working before qjackctl is opened.
I'm finishing setting up my new computer.I'm installing ubuntu 10.04.The motherboard is a gigabyte GA-H61M-D2-B3When I plug the computer into my stereo, I get a horrible scratchy buzzing. How can I get rid of it?More info on hardware: Quote:lspci -v | less gives a lot of output, including this:Quote:

I recently bought a set of 2.1 speakers, all is fine. I like to listen to my DAB radio through them. When I boot up, (runlevel 3), sound is there via the mic/line-in jack, but as soon as KDE starts, the sound cuts. I can get it back by:~>alsamixerand then F6 and then scroll to mic, switching to ON and slider up to full and then mic boost up to 65% or so.Can I tell something in KDE to default to mic/line-in on?kmix does not give the full picture I see in other's posts, like here:ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hostingjust a single slider under each tab, like this:
I have installed Fedora 10-x86_64. I was happy and content with the distribution. Earlier, I found that there is no sound on my headphone's jack where as the normal sound output from my laptops's speakers is OK. I fiddled with the available mixers but couldnt get anything. There seem to be 5 different mixers (HDA, ALSA, OSS), 3 for the playback and 2 for the capture.
I am using an acer 4530 laptop. It has a nvidia Nforce MCP77 chipset. and the o/p lsmod| grep snd :
I'm using a VGA GIGABYTE GV-R455D3- 512I HD4550 video card for my HTPC. It is connected via HDMI to a Toshiba 46" 1080p 120Hz LCD TV. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 and when I open the Catalyst Control Center, it says my resolution is 1920x1080 and my maximum refresh rate is 60Hz. I need the output to be 1920x1080 and 120Hz refresh rate.
I'm trying to figure out where the bottle neck is. I don't know if my video card is the problem or if Ubuntu is the problem. Or maybe the fglrx display driver. I searched the web for the maximum refresh rate of the Radeon HD4550 video card, but I couldn't find anything. I don't know if I need to replace my card or not.
I'm running a clean install of Lucid on a new HD. I've moved over all my old data and files from the previous Karmic system, and am having trouble with a directory full of symlinks. This is a collection of links into my photographs, which I use for wallpaper with Desktop Drapes, and the directory has 1300 symlinks which now point to the wrong place.
I only need to change the first part of the link target: /oldplace/somedir/subdir/photo.jpg into: /newplace/somedir/sudir/photo.jpg
I believe this needs the application of _ ln _ in a terminal to re-write the symlink, and the use of a bash line including _ if . . fi _ or possibly _ IFS _ ? I might also need to use _ sed, - but I'm not sure of the syntax for this.
on my dell studio laptop that has two headphone jacks and is running Ubuntu 10.10 r.c. and has been running 10.10 since beta is having one of the headphone jacks not send sound to my headphone. how can i find out if its Ubuntu and then fix it or if its a hardware problem?
I have a Toshiba Satellite L655, workin with Maverick. Sound comes out of my main speakers that are on my laptop, but when I try to plug in my Bose headphones or my Logitech speakers, they don't want to work period. The headphone jack works I know for a fact because it works in Windows.
When I open up Kmix, it doesn't show my headphone port at all, it shows up "RV710/730 Digital Stereo (HDMI)" which is my TV's audio output and then my main laptops "Internal Audio Analog Stereo".
I just realize that when I plug in my headphones in my laptop, the sound in the laptop's speakers continues to play and I have no sound on the headphones. This is the output of the 'sudo lshw -C sound' on my system:
I just installed Ubuntu on my Compaq Presario CQ61, and there is no sound coming from the speakers. When I plug in headphones or speakers, no problem, but nothing from the speakers. When I boot to Windows, no problem.
I can not get sound to exit from my headphone jack, whenever I plug it in, no sounds come out. Notebook model is Acer 3820TG. By the way, I've tried adding the line for HDA Intel with udo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
Jack runs, but I can't get sound to play through it. Another thing that happens is when I launch jack, all audio in the system, whether its connected to jack or not, goes off. There are no errors or anything in the messages window. And I checked to see if it was connected to the correct interface. I have a mac mini and I run ppc lucid lynx. The system does detect my hardware, and its not muted. All I want to do is use MusE. Is there maybe anyway to run MusE without jack?
