Ubuntu :: Get A 'Save Screenshot" Popup That Is Using Most Likely 100% Of Cpu
Jun 26, 2010
I go to turn on my laptop this afternoon and it boots up fine, but then I get a 'Save Screenshot" Popup that is using, most likely, 100% of my cpu. So I can't do anything, mouse doesn't move, shortcut keys do nothing, all I can do is a hard shutdown.

I've been pulling my teeth out trying to find out a way to automatically save a screenshot to a folder by pressing a hotkey, and append a counter or timestamp to the end of the filename. I found this which works well
import -window root ~/screenshot.png
but I need a way to add a counter so that it doesnt constantly override the same file when I press the hotkey, but will save a new screenshot in the same folder.
I've been looking at bash commands and scripts for the past 3 hours but haven't found it yet, and it seems like it should be an easy task to perform.

I have Ubuntu 9.10 dual booting with Windows7.My ext3 /home is mounted as F: in windows.I share a firefox profile between them so that when i am in Windows my firefox uses the same profile as it does when in Ubuntu. It all worked great until recently. I am unable to save files by right clicking and save as. In the config i am unable to set a directory to save to. It neer asks me where to save to. Just nothing happens. some off my book marks are all messed up as well, my rss feeds have the same post on some random website every time i log on and i have to manually refresh to get the correct feeds back. I am unable to delete the random bookmark.

my mediacenter is attached to an beamer with the optimal resolution of 1280*720 ubuntu 10.04 doesnt offer me this revolution (on my intel 915 graphis controller). this means i have to add this resolution to the possible resolutions. first i used cvt
Code:
cvt 1280 720 60
and got this result:
Quote:
# 1280x720 59.86 Hz (CVT 0.92M9) hsync: 44.77 kHz; pclk: 74.50 MHz
Modeline "1280x720_60.00" 74.50 1280 1344 1472 1664 720 723 728 748 -hsync +vsync
then i added this to xrandr
Code:
xrandr --verbose --newmode "1280x720" 74.50 1280 1344 1472 1664 720 723 728 748 -hsync +vsync
and
Code:
xrandr --verbose --addmode VGA1 1280x720
now i can select and use the new resolution - until next reboot. after an reboot 1280x720 is again not available. even if i work with sudo - the resolution isnt there....

I am having some major problems with some popups and all of my notifications:
Ubuntu Karmic 9.10
Video Card: ATI Raedon Mobility 7500 (open source drivers)
Running GNOME up to date version for 9.10, no compiz for now (on laptop)
The main problem is that, after updates, I have been getting popups and notifications that look like the attached... Which is problematic if you want to use popup/notifications such as those popped up.... These include Pidgin notifications, Sound Notifications, and whenever I attempt to open System Monitor, as can be seen from the snapshots.

Not sure if this is where to put this but I have tried googling to find a fix but couldn't find anything.
When I go to Travelocity to search for airfares a popup comes up. It is a small window and often it is for Netflix.
I can't figure out how to not have this popup show up. I have checked the Preferences/Content. I have block pop-up windows checked. I also looked to make sure travelocity is not listed, it isn't.
how to make this pop-up go away?

how to program in C or C++, but I'm pretty decent with python ( I've only used this on Windows ) and I was wondering if there was a way I can display my notifications like that as well. If you could just tell me what causes these messages to display like this I'm sure I could do some investigating of my own.

I frequently need to take screenshots of a game (flash-based, running inside a browser), in particular it's statistics screen which is shown when I hold the TAB key. The problem is, when I take a screenshot, either by pressing PrintScreen key or by pressing a custom-defined shortcut, the game responds to this keypress and hides its statistics screen, so the screenshot doesn't contain the information I need.I figured out how to overcome this using a custom application launcher icon; but this requires using the mouse which is rather inconvenient.define a shortcut that wouldn't be processed by the active application? Or maybe there's some screenshot utility that does this out of the box?

Ok here's what I'd like to do:
Take a screenshot, or some other way of saving the visual output of a java applet [URL], and saving that as an image, without having to manually do it (open browser go there, and take a screenshot).
I guess this would be most easily done using a script of some sort, but I have no idea how to go about doing this..
I would like to do this, so I can use this image to update my conky every 30 secs or so (got that part figured out ).

I was gathering some screenshots to use in a tutorial on how to do something in Unity. For the most part that went well... however I did find an unfortunate quirk. When I Right-Click any of the items in the Unity Launcher panel, and they bring up the submenu (for example I did the modification to add Pics, Docs etc to my Home Folder in the Launcher) I then cannot do a screenshot using my "PrtSc" key on my netbook. This only happens when the submenus are visible. Unfortunate because I wanted to get a screen shot of the submenus.

I've been experiencing a weird delay between me pressing the printscreen key and the screenshot dialog appearing. The delay is about one second, and is happening even though gnome-screenshot's delay key is set to zero in gconf-editor. This delay is making it difficult to capture things which disappear quickly, and I'd like to know if there's any way to make the screenshot dialog appear instantly.

If I was to make any changes or download anything I have to switch to gnome, because in fluxbox the menu dialog boxes are not appearing.
I'm assuming they are coming up because if it's a dialog asking for my user password the window will unfocus and I can not click on it but no dialog box pops up!

When you hover your cursor over in icon often you get some info about it.
Now I have the problem that this info is unreadable in all the KDE apps I use and in Skype. (see the sceenshot I attached to see what I mean)
I uses Ubuntu 10.10 with Gnome the radiance theme.
When switch to another theme and then immediately switch back to radiance the colours are good but after a reboot I get back the unreadable colours.
What can I do to solve this problem?

Is it even possible to do this? I cant find any files or settings in the themes folders. What I want to do is change the ugly grey/black popup in the top right to a different color and change the font color as well. This is 10.04 Netbook Remix.
