Ubuntu :: Failed Configure/make Of Tesseract?

Mar 14, 2011

Seems it failed because I am missing a header file called allheaders.h. What is this and where do I get it?
Here is the output of the configure and make commands:

/var/tmp/tesseract-ocr-read-only$ ./configure

Ubuntu :: Could Use Some Pointers For Making A GIMP/tesseract Script

Feb 17, 2010

I'm currently undertaking the ridiculously stupid task of using tesseract ocr to convert a scanned 1,000 page .pdf document into .txt documents (I volunteered to do it for a girl - I'm pathetic, I know). I import one page of the .pdf at time in GIMP, convert it to indexed colors, save it as an uncompressed .tif, and then run tesseract in a terminal on the saved .tif, after which it spits out a .txt file (which I instruct tesseract to name after the page number of the .tif, for example 537.tif becomes 537.txt).

This process takes about a minute per page, so at 1,000 pages we're looking at 1,000 minutes. That's a lot of minutes. I've looked into scripts some and I understand the very basics, but I don't know how to make a program, like GIMP, perform several specific functions in succession (import, convert to indexed colors, save as uncompressed .tif), and then have another program, like tesseract, perform its function after the completion of the prior program's function. I'm not trying to ask anyone to do my work for me, but could someone give me some advice regarding this, or point me in the direction of a newbie-friendly how-to that might help me out? I haven't found any. I'd like to finish this thing quickly, so as to maximize girl-impressing potential.

Ubuntu Installation :: Can't View Configure Change Hardware / Make It Possible?

Apr 13, 2010

OK I am windows 7 user trying to update my old Dell M65 (more for educational purposes than anything else) I have tried several flavors of Linux. I've tried PCLinux OS and was OK but would not boot 30% of the time and had an edgy feel to it. So now I'm trying Ubuntu. I down loaded and boot to the CD. Nice. No network. No wireless. Could not find any kind of "Control Panel" to view system settings or hardware or add hardware. Found "Hardware Driver" and clicked wireless card driver and got to the internet. OK! Looks good, feels good, let's try it.

I installed it to the hard drive and seemed OK but no net work again. Went to "Hardware Driver" and no drivers are listed. Now what I do. I'm sure the driver is on the CD but how do I install it? I can't even tell Umbuntu I have a problem.

Debian :: Compile XMMS - Navigated To Folder Containing The Extracted Source And Ran ./configure - Failed

May 29, 2010

I'm trying to do the simplest thing. Compile XMMS. I navigated to the folder containing the extracted source and ran ./configure. That failed, so I remembered to install the build-essential package.

After that, I continued and got this output:

It said I didn't have glib installed, whatever that is. I did "apt-get install glib" and it told me it couldn't find the package called "glib". I thought, "Yeah, that seems a little too broad of a package name".

So then I went to Synaptic and did a search for "libglib" and noticed I already have libglib2.0-0 installed, as well as libglib2.0-data and libglib-perl.

How can I get this to to work correctly? I know the process should be ./configure, make, and then make-all, but I get stuck on the ./configure step.

Programming :: Bash - Automatically Build A Set Of Packages And Redirect Output Into Logs - Failed Make Should Return A Non-zero Value

Jun 27, 2011

I have a set of bash scripts that I'm running that automatically build a set of packages for me and redirect their output into logs. Basically, I have a bunch of lines that are something like this: ${CONFIGURE_DIR}/configure &> ${LOG_DIR}/log or cd ${CONFIGURE_DIR} && make &> ${LOG_DIR}/log, etc.

This is supposed to make the entire process silent. However, sometimes with some packages some output leaks to my console (either stdout or stderr). I'm thinking that maybe the configure scripts/make are executing commands within new shell instances that don't inherit my redirect, or something to that effect.

Another reason for thinking this is that in another part of my script I detect errors when running make by testing with "if [ $? -ne 0 ]", and if the redirect leaks to my console and also the leaked output indicates that the build failed ("make: Error" and so on), then my $? test fails (i.e., it thinks that $? == 0, whereas a failed make should return a non-zero value). It's as if my original script can't "see" the results from child commands executed from later scripts.

CentOS 5 :: Kernel Panic - Getting This"failed To Make Kdump Initrd" Messages At Startup."?

Oct 12, 2009

I've had a Centos 5.3 zimbra mailserver set up for about 3 months now.Every 7-10 days or so, the system will do a kernel panic and I've been putting off its resolution due to other matters.I'm now ready to look into it but I have two issues :

1) No logs.

So far, I've manually rebooted when a kernel panic occured and could look at the panic printout and write down relevant info. But since I wanted more info than I had written down, I went hunting in the logs for the kernel panic event (one happened earlier today) but, to my surprise, I noticed the system doesn't log the kernel panic at all. Kdump is currently disabled as I'd like to keep all available memory available to the system but I was under the impression it would log the kernel panic message regardless but would simply leave out more advanced diagnostic information. How would I make sure the kernel panic is logged so I can have more info about it ?

2) The actual panic. Here's a snippet of what's appearing when the kernel panics :

EIP c0467136 page_remove_rmap+0x66/0xc0 SS:ESP 0068:c3ca6ddc <0> Kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal Exception

I've also seen f793bee4 instead of the highlighted part above but everything else is always the same from the times I've seen (as I haven't always had the chance to be around when a panic occured).I'm looking further into it at this point but early research seem to indicate this could be a memory issue. I'll run memtest next weekend to check that out (since I don't want to take the system offline for any length of time during office hours) but people here might have other theories based on what I've put up so far. The system has all of the latest patches and updates and is running only what I need as far as software goes (zimbra server + prerequisites, x + GNOME (not loaded on startup), firefox and vnc for windows RDP access). My system also uses a software RAID1 array (boot = md0 and / = md2 with swap files not being mirrored as there's no need to).

PS : In order to further troublehsoot by myself before posting here, I've tried to enable kdump to see if kdump is the culprit for the missing logs but I'm also having an issue with it. I'm getting a "No kdump initial ramdisk found" and "mkdumprd: failed to make kdump initrd" messages at startup. I'm thinking this might be because of my raid array ? I've found an old bug report regarding one of those error messages on centos 5.2 but it was supposedly fixed in the 30 version by RH and I'm using the latest one (56).
