View 3 RepliesI installed Evolution email. Mostly it seems to work fine. But when I click on a URL link in an email I get the error message: Could not open link - no application is registered as handling this file"
Is there a fix for this? Also since I'm new to these forum is there a guide for how best to use them? Is there a way to mark posts as solved or unresolved, etc? For example I searched to see if this error message came up before in the forums and I didn't see anything. So maybe I didn't do it correctly? How do I edit a post after I've already submitted it?
Evince in non-gnome systems is unable to open external link. The error msg it shows is
Code:
Unable to open external link The specified location is not supported. I have already googled it, however it only says it is a bug, without any solution available. Evince in gnome systems however work just fine. Is there any way evince can use sensible-browser to open external links?
I'm using kubuntu 10.04 LTS and i need to open a wdb or a mdb (database file) and then save in one of those formats for a computing course I'm doing.
View 2 Replies View RelatedVery wierd problem that seems to be happening in FF4 since upgrade to the latest 1337 rc. When clicking on a web link using the laptop touchpad, if I tap the middle of touchpad, the link will invariably open in a new tab, but tapping to either the LH or RH side of the touchpad opens the link in the existing window. Any FF gurus out there who may know of some hidden option that might be causing this, and how to disable it?, or do I need to file this as a bug?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed Kubuntu on my computer running win xp. I have had problems with the resolution because it only lets me set it at 800x600. I have read many of the post here and most of them tell your to use xrandr or xorg config. When i run the xrandr iI end up with a message saying can't open display and also when i try the xorg confing. I installed kubuntu using wubi.

View 4 Replies View RelatedSuddenly I can't open some of my evolution address books. I get this error message :
Unable to open address book
This address book cannot be opened. This either means that an incorrect URI was entered, or the server is unreachable.

This doesn't happens with 3 out of 5 address books. All the books in question are on my computer. My ubuntuone and google address books work fine. I've looked around for answers, but most of the issues seem to be related to the ubuntuone book, which is working fine for me.
I have this little problem with my keyboard. When in Firefox, I have to ctrl+click a link about three times before there is any reaction and a new tab is opened with that link. There is not much chance that there is some physical impediment in the keyboard because all of my other keyboard shortcuts involving ctrl work fine, and I have disassembled and cleaned the keyboard on my netbook (eeepc 1008ha).
View 4 Replies View RelatedThis is odd - I just installed Fedora 13 onto a clean disk, but I restored some folders from backup to my home directory.
Afterwards I noticed that double clicking on a date on the calendar does not open evolution's calendar. I uninstalled evolution* , removed .evolution folder, and re-installed the 3 pieces.
Still nothing.. I double click a date, it does not pop up.
I see that it's running tho..
# ps ax|grep evo
2240 ? S 0:00 evolution-alarm-notify
21839 ? Sl 0:00 evolution calendar:///?startdate=20100613T210000Z
how to debug and or fix this? PS - nothing in /var/log/messages
Hmm when I click on a date, I see this in .xsession-errors:
(nautilus:18928): Nautilus-GDU-WARNING **: unable to query info: The specified location is not supported

When checking emails, many will be notifications from forum threads or other internet links. I have noticed it is very inconsistent in the way it opens them. Sometimes the browser will stay in the background so I can keep reading the emails and keep clicking on the links for reading in the browser afterwards. Other times the browser will jump to the front with every link so I have to keep switching back to Evo.
And other times it's a mix of both, seems completely random.
I have a weird issue about url-handling: When I have an url in any application, and click it, firefox opens up in a NEW window, but does NOT open the url, instead the ubuntu-startpage...
This is totally against my settings: firefox is the default browser, and is set to open url's in a new tab. So, I have checked stuff in about:config, and even tried making an entire new profile. Checked evolutions settings, but too bad, nothing there.
Well I'm kinda a paranoid person, and got bored and ran a port scan from 0 to 500000 and turned up some interesting results, I was wondering how I find the programs tied to each open port. Its my computer and I'd like to very well know what programs are needing these ports and for what usage.

It's not a "Deal-Breaker" with me deciding between Ubuntu 11.04 Classic and Kubuntu 11.04, but it's kind of annoying. How do I change it to my home directory *I.E /home/theif519* instead of /home/theif519/Doc* ?
Is there a file I have to edit or something?
I use LXDE and in the "preferred applications" I set icedove and iceweasel as preferred mail and internet applications but when I click on an e-mail link(craigslist in my case) not only does Icedove not open, but in Iceweasel HUNDREDS of blank tabs open up rapidly and it is difficult to kill the program. This is unlike any problem I've ever encountered so I'm not going to pretend I have a clue here. As I am familiar with Thunderbird in an other distro I would prefer to stay with IceDove.
View 9 Replies View RelatedSince I upgraded my browser to Firefox 3.6, I've been experiencing this problem: when I click on a link in an email, Firefox doesn't go to that link. Instead, a new instance of Firefox is started (even if I've already got an instance of Firefox running), and that instance just opens my homepage. Of course I can work around this problem by right-clicking on the link, selecting Copy Link Location, then manually pasting the URL into Firefox. But I'd prefer to use just one click rather than 6.I'm using the latest official Hardy version of Evolution (2.22.3.1), and I've got Firefox 3.6 set as preferred browser (or "default browser" or whatever it's called in Ubuntu).

So, I get e-mails from both POP3 and IMAP servers on my Evolution service but what bugs me is that I cannot open any links within the e-mails on a browser window when I click on them (like would normally happen when I go to my accounts individually on the internet). Evolution has balked at every webaddress I've thrown at it: Example: Code: Could not connect to imap.google.com (port imaps): Host lookup failed: imap.google.com: Name or service not known same thing happened for smtp as well as the canonical names provided by nslookup.
I was able to succeed in connecting my email finally by using the IP provided by nslookup, but still am unable to get my google Calendar to connect: Code: Cannot open calendar: Unexpected HTTP status code 2 returned (Cannot resolve hostname (www.google.com)) No proxy settings configured in Evolution or Fedora and none needed. View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a problem where I'm using Ubuntu linux to mount a Windows Vista machine's USB drive and access it on the web using Apache. I did have the USB drive plugged into the Linux machine directly and that was working via the web. FollowSymLinks is on in httpd.conf
[Code]....
The mount works and I can see the files (see above) from my regular linux user account. If I make a test file in /mnt and soft link to that, I can see it on the web. So it's just the mount to the vista machine that seems to be a problem. It's supposed to be a simple read-only mount and the apache login should (I think) be able to see the same generic root access permissions.
log from apache: [Mon Apr 26 20:39:42 2010] [error] [client 99.99.99.99] Symbolic link not allowed or link target not accessible: /home/user1/pub_html/Music, referer: https://xx.xx.xx/~user1/music.html
The credentials have a login and password that matches a special read-only account on Vista. I can see the files on the system from Linux, but not via the web. As mentioned above, a different link to the same /mnt area works fine via the web. I've tried several different mount options with no success.
