View 2 Replies View RelatedAlright so when I go to the Ubuntu Software Installer and and I try to install software, it wont let me. I can look at the software and choose which to install. It will ask me for authentication and it accepts it but when downloading it, it never passes 0%. Does anybody have any ideas whats wrong? Thanks so much for any input.
View 5 Replies View RelatedEvery time i try to get anything from the software centre i get this message:
The action would require the installation of packages from not authenticated sources.
It was working fine, but i updated ubuntu, using the update manager and since then the software centre has stopped working.
i am unable to downlaod anything in the software center and here are the error messages There seems to be a programming error in aptdaemon, the software that allows you to install/remove software and to perform other package management related tasks. when i click on more info i get this
[Code]...
I am getting this error whenever I try to download something from the software-center:
Code:
I have not been able to download either by Ubuntu Software Center or the package manager. I get: Failed to fetch [url] Not Found [IP: 91.189.88.30 80]
My Internet is fine.
Is the server down...and is it normal to be down for 3 days?
I really need to download the Glade interface designer. So when I go to the ubuntu software center and click on it, it doesn't give me an option to download. Then, when I click "more info" it says, "To show information about this item, the software catalog needs updating". So I go ahead and run
Code:
sudo apt-get update
and still I can't download.
When I attempt to download the restricted extras from the software center, I get the following error message:
CD/DVD 'Ubuntu 10.04 LTS _Lucid Lynx_ - Release amd64 (20100427.1)' is required,Please insert the above CD/DVD into the drive '/cdrom/' to install software packages from the medium.
I have 2 Ubuntu CDs, the alternate x64 and the desktop x86. I've inserted both and still gave me the same error. The computer is running the alternate x64 version. I've already reinstalled this computer 4 times, and it NEVER asked me for the CD. Why would it ask for it now? Not only that it asks for a CD I don't have.
I have a problem with installing application from so could software center just because in the line with the program there is no bottom install that is present in some programs. So could any body explain me why is so and what is necessary to do. i am relatively new in linux so no have much idea on using it.
View 10 Replies View RelatedIf you had Gimp 2.6 (with gimp-plugin-registry installed) and installed Gimp 2.7 to try its new goodies, but Layer Effects are not showing, and when executing "gimp" from console you get these *nasty* errors:
Code:
This is a development version of GIMP. Debug messages may appear here.
gimp-user-install: migrating from /home/user/.gimp-2.6
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/layerfx.py", line 23, in <module>
import gimp, gimpplugin, math
ImportError: No module named gimp .....
If you haven't install the 2.7 version yet. Before upgrading, backup "python" directory and then just restore it after installing 2.7.
Some of you may have had with issues after installing GIMP on Lucid Lynx 10.04. Which may be directly related to "gimp-help-en", which could prevent you from installing other applications and preforming system tasks. If so, use this method to fix it.
Process: (Terminal > $ sudo apt-get install gimp)
1. After installing Gimp go to the terminal:
2. Then load up the language support application:
3. Then it will ask you to install the "gimp-help-en", confirm it.
4. Fix'd
I think this issue is directly linked to a systems with multiple languages, but I haven't been able to test this theory out yet.
I want to download with yum but always see this errors:
And at last the download speed comes very slow:
This is my etc/yum.repo/fedora.repo:
Fedora.updates.repo:
There is no other file in the /etc/yum.repo/
I have tried so many download managers it ain't funny, but there's one thing they all don't seem to know how to do well, and that's resume problematic downloads. I have used both fast and slow Internet connections on 3 continents (currently I'm on a slow and intermittent one as I live in Burma) so speed doesn't seem to be what causes the problem. And I download from many, many different sites, so it's not site specific either. The problem is as follows. I'm downloading a file from a server that supports resuming downloads but something goes wrong with the download and the download manager reports an error, like "size mismatch", or "timeout error".
What I really, really want to know, is why can't these managers resume downloads that experience these errors? Why can't they set markers during the download process (say every 5MB) so that if a problem like a size mismatch, a connection dropout, or a timeout occurs, then it can backtrack only slightly and then resume? I download a couple of shows from revision3 each week and more often than I care to remember they've failed at around 70% of a 300MB+ download and merrily just start downloading all over again. Another frustrating thing is they ditch the file that didn't finish, so I can't even watch the part of the show I had. I live with it, though it's very frustrating, but I wonder why these download managers aren't more intelligent.
I am getting this errors when I check for new updates:
Code:
W:Failed to fetch [URL] 404 Not Found
, W:Failed to fetch [URL] 404 Not Found
, E:Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
recently i had to format my system. I have downloaded some programs and some good, large games from the Ubuntu Software Center(USC). I want to copy and keep the installation files of these packages downloaded by USC. The problem is that I don't know where USC keeps the downloaded files. I think u got what i'm saying. The directory where the .ded files are kept after USC downloades it.

I am running Valgrind on my program. It shows me two errors but mentions only addresses against them and not actual code even on a debug build.

PS- During install, it took 20 minutes to download the language packs, and it said I would be there close to forever for the update downloads.

View 5 Replies View RelatedHere at home I have several Ubuntu installations, mine, the kids computers and a couple of laptops. What I'm looking for is a solution or a pointer in the right direction to setup on our local Ubuntu server a sort of cache. Each day each Ubuntu on the network, checks for updates and downloads, and installs. What I'm looking for is a way for one machine to download the update and then the others to download from the local resource.
A sort of local cache to try and minimise everyone downloading straight from the net for pretty much the same updates. I did a emerge cache many years ago when I was using Gentoo, so I'm wondering what I can use/do here with Ubuntu as we are all loving this distro now.
can we use recursive download of wget to download all the wallpapers on a web page?
