Ubuntu :: Download The Restricted Extras From The Software Center - Get An Error Message
Aug 7, 2010When I attempt to download the restricted extras from the software center, I get the following error message:
CD/DVD 'Ubuntu 10.04 LTS _Lucid Lynx_ - Release amd64 (20100427.1)' is required,Please insert the above CD/DVD into the drive '/cdrom/' to install software packages from the medium.
I have 2 Ubuntu CDs, the alternate x64 and the desktop x86. I've inserted both and still gave me the same error. The computer is running the alternate x64 version. I've already reinstalled this computer 4 times, and it NEVER asked me for the CD. Why would it ask for it now? Not only that it asks for a CD I don't have.

Feb 16, 2010Alright so when I go to the Ubuntu Software Installer and and I try to install software, it wont let me. I can look at the software and choose which to install. It will ask me for authentication and it accepts it but when downloading it, it never passes 0%. Does anybody have any ideas whats wrong? Thanks so much for any input.

Was trying to install chromium, vlc & restricted-ubuntu-extras in my first restart after installing ubuntu 11.04. during installing chromium (which was the first on the list), Ubuntu Software Center stopped responding after downloading about 16MB. I restarted my machine. after which it said that chrome is installed. on installing restricted-ubuntu-extras, this error came.

OpenSUSE Install :: Yast Control Center - Error Accessing?
Nov 18, 2010I'm having trouble with Yast, I noticed today that I can't open the control centre from the desktop (along with install/remove software) when opening from the command line I get. the following output:

Yast2 control centre opens, but none of the options load when selected. I have tried updating everything through Zypper which didn't work. (aka zypper ref/up etc). Then I tried removing yast and installing it again. When I did this (and downloaded the Yast control centre again the above errors, reappeared.

Jun 8, 2011My computer crashed awhile and lost windows. so my friends downloaded ubunbu 10.10 for me. from the get go i had this little red "do not enter" like sign at the top. it says An unresolvable problem occured while initiallizing package information. then went on a bit. blash blah blah and had this error message.
'E:Encountered a section with no Package: header, Eroblem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/security.ubuntu_dists_maverick-security_restricted_binary-amd64_Packages, E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.'
i tried the right click, like it suggested. didn't work. i don't know what wrong. i need it for school so i can download adobe so i cant watch videos on stuff to catch up.

If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct. I see that it is usually a problem with the etc/apt/sources.list file. I tried to fix mine from looking at others but cant solve the problem.

I found the app I needed, pressed install, entered my password and then i got an error window with this written in it: 'The installation could have failed because of an error in the corresponding software package or it was cancelled in an unfriendly way. You have to repair this before you can install or remove any further software.'
The problem is that I don't remember what I downloaded or when I did it.

Nov 17, 2010Last week, the little orange triangle that tells me I have updates to install turned up. When clicked, I got the Update Manager and when asking it to check on what's available it tried to download 70 some items, but stalled on number 47. I got a message: "Could not download all repository indexes." The box below contained a list of files, such as: "http:/security . . . etc." At the bottom of the list was the statement: "Some indexes failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead." From there all I can do is back out of the Update Manager. The orange triangle remains, and I get the same result when I click on it.

Ubuntu :: Attempt To Download All The Pdfs At Once And Getting Error 403: Forbidden?
Apr 1, 2011I am trying to download all the Heroes graphic novels off the nbc site. Originally I was downloading them via the provided links but with ~170 pdfs to download it was going to take a while I used wget to start downloading them a bit faster, I tried the command
$wget -N -r -l inf -p -np -k -A '.pdf' url
in an attempt to download all the pdfs at once, I got an error message
