View 2 Replies View RelatedI built a HTPC using Zotac ION ITX A 330 (has an onboard Atheros AR9285 according to lspci) and the plan was to connect this to my Netgear WNR2000 using WiFi. The OS is Ubuntu 10.04. I can connect to the router fine. Signal strength stable between 65-72% so this shouldn't be an issue (other hardware including two laptops running Vista (DELL XPS) and OSX (MBP) connect just fine at the same location). I stay connected for everything between five to 60 minutes then i lose the connection. According to the syslog i get deauthenticated due to reason 2. I've tried the backport modules.I've also tried wicd instead of the standard gnome Network manager. No difference.

Just installed Ubuntu on my dad's computer, now all I hear from the speakers is static.
I have had to use the liveCD to edit grub and then Chroot and update-grub (don't think that matters, but just throwing it out there.)
Speakers had static on liveCD, as the OS booted up (it tried to play the Ubuntu logon sound) but after it got logged in, it did great!) Now it won't work at all, I can make out that someone is talking, but not what they are saying Aesop's Fables in Examples folder.
I have a server with two NICs. I tried to bond their network interfaces together, but it bombed out and didn't work, despite the fact I copied the example 100% except for my own numbers for addresses, etc. I decided to go back to a single NIC and let the other unused for now, since I need to get this server running. uh. yesterday.

When I boot up, often times eth0 isn't listed in ifconfig. I'll see eth1, which is just an unused interface at the moment, but eth0 is no where to be found. If I restart the network service, bam. I'm good. Why is it not auto coming up?
I'm using Harmon/Kardon soundsticks and it looks like my settings are all in order to get sound through Firefox but it doesn't happen. I only get sound through Rhythm Box?

Only problem is when I connect my mikomi headphones the audio comes through both the headphones and the speakers. I don't have this problem in windows. I'm just wondering if someone could point me towards a driver i may have to download or a setting i need to change.
View 1 Replies View RelatedJust rebuilt my file/print server using an ECS 945GCD-M Atom motherboard. Running it under 9.10 (2.6.31-20) using the same cable and port on my Netgear switch that my old server connected to at 1GB/s without issue (old server's NIC was Intel-based).
Found the driver is an AR813x, & downloaded & installed the latest driver from here (1.0.1.9). sudo lshw -C network now shows that it's using the new driver, but still sitting at 100MB/s:

I can't seem to get it to come up at the full 1GB/s. I also tried ethtool -s eth0 speed 1000 without success. why networking restart ignores eth0?
After being on the computer for awhile, it suddenly stops and goes to the purple screen like one would see when turning the computer on, only slightly distorted. after a few moments it switches to a black screen with a flashing _ but you can't type anything, and then it changes so it's blank, and these white bars start to flash on the screen. I just put 10.04 on my computer about two days ago, it's been doing it since. When I first tried to upgrade from 9.10 I encountered a huge error of some sort so I just put a brand new install onto the computer from CD.

1.analog headphones
2.analogoutput
i selected analogoutput but sound is not coming .
So I just recently switched to Ubuntu because my computer's hard drive with windows died. When I bought a new hard drive, it was just easier to use Ubuntu. Anyway, I really like the operating system so far, and have had no problems except for one: When I close the screen on my laptop, the screen won't come back on when I open it. The buttons on my keyboard light up and everything like they should, but the screen stays black. I have tried doing Ctrl + Alt + F keys with no luck. I am very new to Ubuntu so please go slowly. I am using Ubuntu 10.10 on an HP Pavilion Dv4 laptop.

anyway why is the sounds coming in medium on the ubuntu 11.04? i turn it all the way up past the 100% on the output volume. but it reset after ubuntu reboot. some videos i can very hear on what they are saying. no problem using windows 7 on hearing them.
I am running some Matlab simulations on Natty Narwhal. Each time this matlab script outputs a figure, Matlab jumps to the foreground, as if I clicked it on the launcher. This is really annoying, because if I'm typing something in my browser for example, and a figure is displayed, I am taken away from my browser and I have to click the browser to resume typing.Is there a way to just have Matlab run in the background without interfering my other work?

so my problem is that i can't disable the speakers on my laptop when i plug in my headphones. in other words, i get sound from both the headphones and the speakers, when the expected behavior is to disable the speakers when headphones are plugged in, and enable the speakers when headphones are unplugged..
i've been looking around the forum and google, and i found a way to adjust the speaker and headphone volume manually in alsamixer. To adjust the headphone volume on alsamixer, i can raise or lower volume using the "Front" volume bar. To adjust the speaker volume, i raise or lower volume on the "Speaker" volume bar.
so, it's cool to know that i can do this manually, but i'm sure there's an option i can put in alsa-base.conf to automate this. i just can't seem to find that option...
anyway, i'm using Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit...and here's my alsa-base.conf file

I am using Ubuntu 9.10 on an Acer Aspire 5050 (5052AWXMi model) and I am experiencing some problems of system Hibernation and Suspend.When I put my laptop to sleep mode (suspend) then after pressing a button system tries to open but what I get it is only a black screen.The same problem appears also when I am trying to hibernate my system. After opening my laptop again I am getting a message < waking up. Please wait > but then I get again a black screen.

when I try to view my root directory of my website.if I go to URL... on my computer, it always loads the "It Works!" page. I deleted the original index.html page, and even replaced it - but if I go to URL... it KEEPS coming up.If I specify the page I want to view, ie.URl... it loads the right file.Is there a setting in the conf file that Im missing?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have had linux 10.04 installed for a while now and have always had this problem. There is a constant static noise in the background in my headphones, it amplifies whenever I move the mouse or scroll etc.
I have tried searching for a way to fix this but nothing came up that was able to help me. I can't think of any other information I could give,
after i upgraded from ubuntu 10.04 to 10.10 i started noticing sound was coming out of my laptop speakers when my headphones were plugged in.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently installed 10.10 netbook remix on my Samsung N150 netbook alongside Windows 7 Starter. At the time of the first installation one of the forward buttons wasn't showing up so I was stuck and had to reboot and restart the installation. This happened after I had made the partition for Ubuntu so when I got back to that stage in installation there was already a partition made. I tried to delete the previous partition but it kept coming back so I made another partition for Ubuntu and installed it.
It was working fine apart from a problem with the right-click and dragging icons. Then I updated the grub and after restarting the machine my grub disappeared and I was left with a black screen with a blinking cursor. I reinstalled Ubuntu again using my external HD with new partitions (the same thing happened where the partitions kept coming back after trying to delete). Now my Windows won't load up and just goes straight to recovery. After I restored it the grub disappeared again.
When I plug in my earplugs the sound is still coming from the speakers. Is there something I need to change?

View 6 Replies View RelatedEverytime I unlock my screen in KDE from the screensaver the background for the Gnome interface momentarily appears before the KDE plasma workspace returns. It only appears for a second and, sure, I can live with it but I wondered if there is a way to fix it and why it is happening in the first place? I initially installed ubuntu 10.4 then installed kubuntu through the package manager and have since upgraded to 10.10 and now 11.4. I think this problem has been here since install of kubuntu
