have bought the game Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 from Trymedia.com and Gamestop.com, and whenever I download the .exe file, I can never open it. I tried the .exe file in Windows and it is a program set to download the actual Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 game.I have tried it alone with Wine AND with PlayonLinux.
View 9 RepliesI'm doing so because my doubt is with regards to running a windows app in linux. I am a freelance writer and use article spinning software like "TheBestSpinner" occasionally. Usually I log into windows XP (I have a dual boot) for this. I am however trying to see if it is possible for me to run this software in linux using wine. I am still relatively a newbie in linux as I have been using Mint 10 for only 6 months. I'm am familiar with the command line but generally use the GUI mostly. I installed the software but when I tried to run the .exe file I got an error that said that I had to install mono for windows. I did that too and installed it inside wine. I am now getting an error that I am unable to resolve by myself because google is not helping me. I am posting the output of what I get when I try running it below.

I have been using linux for a few months now and I love Ubuntu 9.10. I found a link to mspaint.exe and it works fine in wine. It can be found here: [URL]. I downloaded it, and then extracted the file to "/home/christopher/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Paint/". Then in that folder, I right click the file "MSPAINT.exe" and selected "Open with Wine Windows Program Loader" and it opens just fine and works perfectly.
I want to put it in the menu panel under "Applications-Wine-Programs-Accessories". I tried doing it by right clicking the menu panel and editing menus, but I dont know how to make the file "MSPAINT.exe" automatically open with Wine. For some reason, when I got Project64 and a few other apps I didn't run into this problem because they were automatically put into the menu and opened with Wine by default.
At work, I use MS Outlook 2007 via CrossOver (Wine). All of my links from Outlook (and probably all other crossover apps) open a new Firefox window instead of a new tab in Firefox. Links in native apps do not work this way.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to get Wine to work in Fedora and have had nothing but problems. First of all, I can't open executables in the GUI. If I try, I get a message that says, "The program start.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close."
I can open .exe's in the terminal, but when I tried to install iTunes it wasn't able to complete the installation. I got an error message from SELinux that said something about a memory error, and then it asked me if I wanted to turn off some sort of memory management setting. I said yes and it asked me for my password, which I gave, and then it said "unable to grant access". It no longer gives me this error message (that's why I can't recall what it said verbatim), and instead just hangs at the point where I got the error message before. I've tried using Wine in Ubuntu before and could never get anything working in a half-decent way, so this isn't a big surprise.
1. In windows, you can create batch files. I know Shell files are the equivalent of that in linux, but how do i create one?I tried creating a text document, typing echo Test, and saving it as .shell but it came up with a empty terminal.
2.How do i add the Right Click> Open With WINE, like there was in Ubuntu. I currently have to go through terminal and type Wine ProgramName, which i am fine with, but I want shortcuts (reason for asking about batches)
3. Finally, how do i add programs to the KDE Menu? I made a custom menu, but when i try and send a program to it, it works unless its a windows executable, which what i'm using is, how can i still add it?
The Program is Brutus AE2, and i want to add it the KDE with the command "Wine" so when you click it it launches a terminal, enters Wine BrutusA2.exe and runs?
4. Also, my search wont work. dunno
I uninstalled Wine. But when I right click on files, I still can see "Wine core exe" in "Open with..." menu.

When I check the permissions tab of properties there is no option to make it executable as per screenshot.
Also using chmod +x doesn't change anything but I am able to open .exe using WINE in the terminal but I would rather I did not have to do this every time I use WINE.
I have no intention of using mIRC, it was just a small windows installer I downloaded for testing.
When i was fixing some with Apache i set /tmp to chmod 777 and now when i try to open Wine it complains that the settings are wrong :PHow do i reset the chmod and chown settings on /tmp?

And I am using my system for surfing the web, listen to music, video`s and chatting. And I got the "funny" tough`t of trying to maybe play World of Warcraft again on this computer. Yes I have run it before when I had XP and W7 on it. The w7 experience on this computer was a bad mistake. So yeah, the thing I am really wondering on is this: Wine, WoW with WoTLK ( Wrath of the Lich King ), with the newest Open Source ATI graphic driver?[URL].. According to that page (you have to Ctrl-F and "Open source ATI drivers" to find the what I mean ) it is possible, but I am wondering on how to do it?[URL].. and been reading on different sites that you can play games with wine in a new X. Curious on how that can be done, and if that MAYBE is the best thing to do with my Wow game. Havent installed it YET, thinking of downloading the web installer after this post. Firefox 3.1 beta 3 won't load. When I open the application, the little bouncy icon bounces, and the task manager shows "Firefox Web Browser", but this only stays this way for about 15 seconds then just goes away. No error or anything.
I've had this identical problem when I try to open certain programs with Wine too. Is there some place I can find a detailed error report on these failures?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an old copy of daemon347.exe.I tried to run it using wine (right clicked on the file and clicked "open with wine"; also tried the "open with wine program loader" option.)After agreeing to the license agreement, I clicked the "Next>" button. But then the setup terminated.I do have an alternative for daemon - the ubuntu mounter. But this happens with quite a few .exe files. Is there a more correct way to operate wine? Either the setup files terminate after a few windows or a few setup files don't run at all.
