When i was fixing some with Apache i set /tmp to chmod 777 and now when i try to open Wine it complains that the settings are wrong :PHow do i reset the chmod and chown settings on /tmp?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to get Wine to work in Fedora and have had nothing but problems. First of all, I can't open executables in the GUI. If I try, I get a message that says, "The program start.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close."
I can open .exe's in the terminal, but when I tried to install iTunes it wasn't able to complete the installation. I got an error message from SELinux that said something about a memory error, and then it asked me if I wanted to turn off some sort of memory management setting. I said yes and it asked me for my password, which I gave, and then it said "unable to grant access". It no longer gives me this error message (that's why I can't recall what it said verbatim), and instead just hangs at the point where I got the error message before. I've tried using Wine in Ubuntu before and could never get anything working in a half-decent way, so this isn't a big surprise.
I have two major issues, and one minor one, after I started using Ubuntu, I tried searching the forum for them, but couldn't find anything relevant to my problems.First issue: Screenshots and the cursor.This is probably a very easily fixed issue, but none-the-less, I can not figure it out.How do I NOT include the cursor in my screenshots on Ubuntu 9.10?What I do is, I press the Prt Scrn button, and my cursor is always there in the image, and I don't want that.Second is pidgin.I love it, but every time I boot it up, my friendly name is reverted back to firefoxfag.I think it has something to do with me using gmail for msn, but I'm not sure...Also, as a last very small issue, the global hotkeys on audacious don't respond unless i open preferences, open settings for global hotkeys, then close down the settings..

When I load a video into mplayer I get this message:

and instructs me to do a chkdsk /f /r on it and reboot TWICE!. So I did, multiple times and multiple reboots later, it still says the same. This is my first experience with fedora. I have tried to look through the forums and couldnt find any help. Can some one point me in the right direction?

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy sister can't open CDs on her laptop, I made sure to install ubuntu-restricted-extras on her computer and she can open DVDs and data disks. The files burnt to the disk are .wav, and we've tried using vlc, rhythmbox, and tried to open the disk in nautilus, but no success. Does anybody know what's wrong?

Having a strange video problem after recently up-ing to 11.4. When new windows open maximized, they are opening at the wrong size (slightly too small) resulting in a distorted view including 'broken' fonts (missing pixels). If I unmaximize the new window, and then re-maximize it, it now maximizes to the correct size and everything is fine.
When I try to open sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
by entering it in the "run tool" nothing appears...
what's wrong?
I am currently running ubuntu 10.10
I have a panasonic 50" and a samsung 23" both of which are 1080p displays. I have twinview setup so that the samsung is my main and the panasonic plasma is my secondary. For some reason every time I open a windows of lets say mozilla and it was maximized prior to closing before, it will "jump" (briefly display on the samsung monitor for a split second and then automatically move to the plasma) from my main display to the secondary panasonic plasma. If mozilla was minimized before closing prior and I reopen it will open to the samsung in the state it was in on the prior close (aka minimized), which is fine. Only when it was maximized prior does it "jump" to my secondary display.
How can I correct this issue? I would like to have programs open (and stay) in the display they were launched in whether it is the plasma or the samsung.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am new to fedora and installed wine to see if I could get the sony reader software working (required to access sony bookstore from my sony ereader). Well the program did not work though it did create icons on my desktop. wine kept crashing and I said lets just get rid of it. I uninstalled wine via yum remove and nothing appeared to happen so I did rpm -qa |grep wine and saw lots of stuff. So I simply did yum remove wine* and then a rpm -qa |grep wine was empty. however wine is still under applications on my desktop and still has a category for programs--reader. I should also mention that while wine was installed I attempted to remove the reader via the wine uninstalller but a) wine gave a message of a core crash and b) all the uninstaller did was give me the option to reinstall the reader program. so now when I attempt to open an epub it tries with the sony reader software. I know I can just right click to use another program but for now I want wine gone completely from my pc and the sony program gone.

have bought the game Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 from Trymedia.com and Gamestop.com, and whenever I download the .exe file, I can never open it. I tried the .exe file in Windows and it is a program set to download the actual Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 game.I have tried it alone with Wine AND with PlayonLinux.

3. Finally, how do i add programs to the KDE Menu? I made a custom menu, but when i try and send a program to it, it works unless its a windows executable, which what i'm using is, how can i still add it?
The Program is Brutus AE2, and i want to add it the KDE with the command "Wine" so when you click it it launches a terminal, enters Wine BrutusA2.exe and runs?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been using linux for a few months now and I love Ubuntu 9.10. I found a link to mspaint.exe and it works fine in wine. It can be found here: [URL]. I downloaded it, and then extracted the file to "/home/christopher/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Paint/". Then in that folder, I right click the file "MSPAINT.exe" and selected "Open with Wine Windows Program Loader" and it opens just fine and works perfectly.
I want to put it in the menu panel under "Applications-Wine-Programs-Accessories". I tried doing it by right clicking the menu panel and editing menus, but I dont know how to make the file "MSPAINT.exe" automatically open with Wine. For some reason, when I got Project64 and a few other apps I didn't run into this problem because they were automatically put into the menu and opened with Wine by default.
I'm doing so because my doubt is with regards to running a windows app in linux. I am a freelance writer and use article spinning software like "TheBestSpinner" occasionally. Usually I log into windows XP (I have a dual boot) for this. I am however trying to see if it is possible for me to run this software in linux using wine. I am still relatively a newbie in linux as I have been using Mint 10 for only 6 months. I'm am familiar with the command line but generally use the GUI mostly. I installed the software but when I tried to run the .exe file I got an error that said that I had to install mono for windows. I did that too and installed it inside wine. I am now getting an error that I am unable to resolve by myself because google is not helping me. I am posting the output of what I get when I try running it below.

I am using Fedora 13 x86_64 on a Acer Aspire 7730ZG laptop with: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G98 [GeForce 9300M GS] (rev a1) I have kmod-nvidia-2.6.33.6-147.2.4.fc13.x86_64-195.36.31-1.fc13.2.x86_64 installed from rpmfuison when I plug in the hdmi cable to the tv, my tv says the resoultion is at 720p, and I can not get any of the resolutions settings to look right on seperate x screen with the nvidia X server settings gui. my tv is a vizo 42inch. also another question is their a way to set the video card to output at 1080? this might be part of my problem?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a user who has recently switched to Debian 7 (from Windows). While reinstalling his PC I foolisly went straight to install the ATi proprietry drivers (as every computer I have come across this in this building is running with an ATi card). Once install I found out that the computer actually had on board Intel Haswell graphics. So I installed the correct driver and uninstalled the ATi one. Since then System Settings refuse to open they are forever "Starting". The user is running on Gnome Classic as Gnome 3 refuses to start (in what I am starting to suspect is a linked issue).
Running "gnome-control-center" from the command line details the following error:

This probably reflects a bug in the program.

I have just installed brightside. I have recieved instructions that brightside settings should appear under System -> Preferences -> Screen actions. "Screen actions" is not under my System -> Preferences though brightside is installed and running. Since there is no manual post for brightside I do not know how to open this window using the prompt. How do I enter the brightside settings?
