Apr 7, 2010Archive Manager can be found in applications/accessories. Can't find it. The software centre says it is installed. Is the tutorial wrong?

May 2, 2011I have upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04 and I am using the classic ubuntu interface instead of Unity. I am facing problems with the Archive Manager. My problem is that I can open archives but I can not modify them or create a new zip file with the GUI. I get an error saying:
zip error: Invalid command arguments (no such option: -)
The easiest way to reproduce it is by right-clicking on any file, pressing compress and selecting .zip in the file format.

Nov 15, 2010Every shortcut... every program... every link... everything opens in Archive Manager. And then it reports that the archive is not supported... I gotta launch everything directory related through a terminal just to get to navigate through a window manager.

You see, my archive manager isn't cooperating with me and it's not letting me download anything. For example, I tried to download Sony Vegas and it gave me the following error. (Among other things, but this data seems more important.)" End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In thelatter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on the last disk(s) of this archive. "
This occured when I tried to open the "SonyVegas 8.0 exe" . I have unzipped this file. I think "exe" has something to do with Windows, if so, is there a way I can convert this file so it can be adapted to my archive manager? Or is my archive manager not working, correctly? Does anyone else have these problems, also? Please, I want to be able to download things and my archive manager is the reason I can't.

Nov 7, 2010surprisingly come across this file that the ubuntu archive manager is simply unable to unpack.these are some articles that i am trying to download.strangely i have never heard of the format and the page asks me to download "stuffit expander" to allow me to view the pdf files.
however when i download the file saving it on the desktop, and try to open it, archive manager is simply unable to do so!this is the title of the downloaded file -

and its 1.3 MB
and i am as of now unable to open it in any way.

Archive type not supported.I'm sure the default "open with" for the Trash folder has somehow been modified but I can't figure out how to change it back.

The question I have, is can I also install this on my pc and choose at login which version to boot and do I install it from the cd at boot up or can I install it from the archive manager in ubuntu 11.04.

It is a samba shared folder and so far I could browse fast and easily those files in another old ( Pentium4 1,5Ghz) PC with WinXP. I installed ubuntu 10.10 but the browsing now is toooooooo slow , although the old Pc's performance is considerably faster than before (when I had WinXP). Also, although the old PC's speed is satisfatory now, would it become even faster if I installed an older ubuntu distro?

Dec 21, 2010In the upper left corner, I click places>documents (or anything besides computer) and I get the error,
"Could not create the archive, archive type not supported" from archive manager.
I saw a thread from a while back claiming I could just right click and "open with," but that simply isn't possible in these drop down menus, right clicks are treated as left clicks.
Does anybody have any ideas? It's very annoying trying to quickly access my files and having to go through Computer every time to get to them.
PS: I also deleted an "inode directory=" line in ~/.local/share/applications/mimeaps, as explained by a forum thread I found. Still, no luck...

I've tried DTA and Flashgot, they do the trick but not exactly a Flashget (Windows) equivalent.In Downloader For X, I can't get to download anything because of the additional slashes and numbers and stuff. Jun 27, 2010Using Jaunty and trying to install a 56k modem driver with gdebi but when I go to install it tells me I have to close all other application managers. I cannot find any other application managers running in system monitor. Synaptic and update manager are both off at this point.
I'm in a dual boot with xp. Something tells me I should have bought that USR modem with the native Linux driver rather than the cheaper Aopen unit
I will be upgrading to Lucid in the coming weeks but would like to resolve this beforehand if possible.

After trying a `blind' sudo apt-get install acroread which was unsuccessful I tried installing using the synaptic package manager, and couldn't find it in there either.
According to the software sources info I have both Universe and Multiverse switched on. I'm fairly sure one of my attempted permutations of `acro', `reader' and `acrobat' etc should have hit upon something so I assume there must be something more fundamental wrong!
Am using a newly installed Lucid Lynx 10.04

Feb 8, 2010To start off I have a Rosewill rnx-n2x wireless adapter and a Dlink 4500 router. The problem is, the wireless network manager detects every wireless router in the neighborhood, except mine. I see this persons, and this persons, but no "My router Not yours". I even tried doing the hidden network setup and still nothing.
I have read that the rnx n2x isnt supported by linux, although I've seen solutions to make it work (which didn't work, mkdir command kept getting denied during make) link to what I'm talking about: [URL]. What I don't get though, is that if the rnx n2x isnt supported by linux, wouldn't I not be getting my neighbors connections to begin with?
