View 4 Replies View RelatedCan I remove the workspaces button from unity-2d? The workspace switcher is super slow in unity-2d, and I don't want to use it (instead, using the ALT+CTRL+Arrows) but I don't want to accidentally click it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI tried to enable desktop-cube on unity, and when it did that it disable the unity compiz plugin. When it did that it removed the entire top bar that we has the buttons to min, max, and exit. As well as all windows default to the very top-left side of screen and under the the top bar so I Can not move the window ether.I turned it back to the unity plugin, but it did not work. Even tried to complete remove and install compiz and unity. This does not affect Unity 2D.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen using the "Files & Folders" search from the Unity launcher I can set what to search for. There are several options like "All files", "Folders" etc. I would prefer to be able to search files /and/ folders at the same time (The unity label is after all "Files & Folders, not Files or Folders). Is there a way I can get it to work like that which to me would be much more efficient?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've switched my non-maximized window button locations back over to the right with gconf-editor but i'd like to change the global menu buttons over to the right as well.I've had 20 odd years working that way. I can't seem to find an option in gconf-editor and if google has the answer I'm not using the correct search terms.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm running Ubuntu 11.4. I've played with different versions of Picasa, installing the Linux version via Ubuntu Software Center and also using Wine. At a certain point I had several versions of the application installed and things were getting. When I search for Picasa in the Unity application search field (clicking the button with the dot in the centre at the top left of my screen) I got several results for Picasa, some of which when clicked would start Picasa and some which wouldn't. When I remove all versions of Picasa both from Wine and native I still get some results for Picasa which don't start Picasa when clicked.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've just upgraded to 11.04 and really like it so far, everything seems to be running smoothly and I had no issues apart from a broken Emerald which I removed (and installed compiz-gnome and then made gtk-window-decorator the default, which fixed Unity segfaulting on Emerald).
My problem now is that when I use the Unity dash to search for something, it takes a while to search and then finds nothing. I'm pretty sure I should have things like "text editor", "gimp", "update manager", so I would think this is some manner of bug.
In addition to that, the following buttons don't do anything if I click on them:
- Media Apps
- Internet Apps
- More Apps
- Find Files
I have noticed that the files and folders search in Unity, only shows up those files which have been amended (or possibly just opened) since the install.
i was wondering if there was a way i could have the search index (or something vaguely equivalent) all the files on my machine. This is especially important given that i reinstall the OS every six months on a new distribution cycle, copying all my old files across.
Without being able to see my old files the search is pretty much reduced to a recent history search.
For some reason the general launcher button (+ in circle) in the unity menu has disappeared. I do not know how to restore it. Which means I have great problems to start al apps that are not standard in the menu.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I have a intel wifi link 5100 , the drivers should work BUT iwconfig doesn't show my card ..

I have a touch button on my laptop to enable/dissable it And when I touch it in Ubuntu it doesn't light up like in W7
How can I enable it :s? I really want to use ubuntu !
i guess this is an installation issue as i am newish to Linux and got a F14 laptop from a used/refurb store... Anyway it seem i have difficulty with getting GTK running or maybe it is WGET...?
i did manage to install apt-get and was able to run synaptics ... but now whenever i try to run synaptics it flashes the interface and crashes. i tried apt-get search wget and it says invalid operation search. i tried apt cache wget and get a crash box in the upper right corner... i tried apt-get gtk+extra-2.1.2-4.fc14 and it says invalid operation gtk...
All of which is frustrating my attempts to get the GTK interface to J working. Their script uses WGET which i also cannot get.

View 1 Replies View Related1. I didn't like the icon theme and changed it to Ubuntu Mono Light. But is there a way to get the Min/Max/Close buttons to how they are in Radiance when maximized, or is that dependant on something else?
2. Is there a way to disable the Unity dock, but not the Unity feature where the Min/Max/Close go into the command bar?
While searching the net I found how to complete disable the functionality of the middle mouse button but I need this button for many other uses.I want to disable only it's paste action.

View 2 Replies View RelatedJust moved to Ubuntu 11.04 with unity and only have one problem...For most of my desktop needs I prefer to have the Unity Launcher up all the time (fullscreen apps don't cover it), and have set this option with ccsm.
However, when I watch mythtv, it is also under the launcher (and the top panel as well). How can I force mythtv to cover the launcher?
What I really need is a keyboard shortcut to hide the launcher, but the only shortcut is for "show launcher". (I guess the devs assumed everyone would want it hidden by default).
This, by the way is not my usual way for viewing mythtv. I have a projector attached to the desktop PC and it doesn't get a Unity Launcher by default (in Twinview), so no probs. However, occasionally I want to watch something on my computer screen, and that is when this issue arises.
I'm trying to find a good desktop search tool. Beagle is dead, Recoll and Strigi are KDE, and Tracker is not many features (can't even search Thunderbird 3). Do I miss something? Is desktop search on Linux dead? Should I use Google Desktop Search instead

I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 with KDE 4.
I want a desktop search program for KDE 4 like GNOME has beagle and tracker.
I know about Nepomuk but it seems too slow and resource heavy.
When I used to use KDE 3 I used a desktop search program called Kerry (a KDE frontend to Beagle) but I don't think has a KDE 4 version.
good desktop search program for KDE 4.
Is there any way, either with something included or with a program that can be set up to search for files in Ubuntu? I need something like the search for files or folders that was available in Windoze 98 and 2000. I have tried the built in search under "places" and I have found no way to get it to search a full drive or all drives.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIf I'm in a folder and I press a letter, a text box would pop up at the button and the letters would go in there. It's very annoying, because when I am listening to songs, I press more the one key at the same time so I can find the song I want fast. Impossible to do this in Ubuntu with the search box.
