I've been all over the internet trying to locate Linux drivers but no success. Alcatel's website says is not supported, only in Windows. I'm sure there's gotta be a way to use the X200 in Linux.
i'm running Kubuntu karmic and i've been using a 3G Huawei E1552 modem to connect to the internet, everything was going well when suddenly my modem stopped working. I've tried reconfiguring everything, i even reinstalled kubuntu from scratch with no success. Here's a part of my /var/log/debug

Steps for using scan Modem to Identfy dial up modem?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have this USB modem P300U(SIM600 chip based) which works fine under wind@ws because it has it's own driver, but the clever seller told me that it worked under Linux as well. It was with Redhat 8 but I couldn't get redhat 8 to download. And until now absolutely false.
I have Debian with Kernel 2.6.32-5-686 I just want to send sms through this modem. It's not recognized as modem I'm frustrated because it's not useful for me if it doesn't work on Linux I looked for info but I can't make it work. What I get in my debian is:
lsusb: Bus 002 Device 003: ID 10c4:ea60 Cygnal Integrated Products, Inc. CP210x Composite Device

I have a Centos 5.4 server running kernel 2.6.18-164.11.1.el5PAE. It has an internal modem, and I need to be able to issue AT commands from a script to the modem. I need to simply dial a number and hang up. The relevant piece of my script is:
[Code]...
With an external modem, this works no problem. With an INTERNAL modem, the call never goes out. I fired up minicom to make sure the modem was working correctly, and if I issue those AT commands from within minicom, everything works great.
While minicom was running, I noticed a peculiar fact: WHILE minicom is running, the script works from the command line, and I can see all the AT commands and OK's in minicom, (minicom acts as a monitor). When I exit minicom, the script stops working. It appears minicom is creating a bridge between the com port and the modem itself. So, what is minicom doing that I'm unaware of?
The server's sole function is to run asterisk as a voicemail server (avaya wanted well into 6 figure territory to implement this....). This script is to dial an avaya FAC to turn the voicemail message lights on and off on the end users' phones.
I'm planning to install Ubuntu on a new PC and use an external dial-up modem for internet connection. The modem I plan to use is the US Robotics USR5637 56K USB Faxmodem, which USR claims is compatible w/Linux kernel 2.4.20:
[code]...
In the modem's Installation Guide, it says: "You need a USB modem driver (CDC ACM) compiled into a Linux kernel 2.4.20 or higher or as a loadable module for your kernel. Installation of the modem under these kernels is fully automatic provided your kernel has the Plug and Play module enabled (default)." So...uh...does Ubuntu meet these specs? Are some version #s of Ubuntu, or its variants, different with regard to these specs? I have the CD of Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop Edition--is this one OK? Should I try a later or earlier version? I'm really looking for a version that will be the least hassle to set up and use; I'll probably have to use Wine, so I can use MS Word 2000. Is there a Ubuntu version best for this too?

Now, I have put new hard disk with a single partition and installed Ubuntu 9.04 on it. After installation, it was detecting USB for a day or two and I/net was working fine. But now the system is not detecting USB Modem et al. Is it because of some hardware problem or is there anything that I can check into Ubuntu?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using an external Huawei CDMA fixed wireless terminal (phone + dial-up modem). It connects to my PC via a USB port. Actually my PC recognizes it (after driver installation) as "TIUMP Serial Port". I guess the driver is a kind of USB adapter for a serial port.
I can't get it to work in ubuntu 9.10. I ran wvdial (after installing dependencies and wvdial package) and it doesn't recognize my device as a modem. Is there any solution to this problem? Without solving it, I won't be able to go online from ubuntu.
I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 (Kubuntu) and have a LG Arena (KM900) smartphone which when plugged into the USB socket and I select the iSync option on the phone, the handset is correctly identified as a Mobile Broadband device in Ubuntu network manager. However, I'm having difficulty getting Ubuntu to connect to T-Mobile through the 3G modem. I've referenced [URL] and[URL] and I can not connect. I'm assuming that this is something to do with Mobile Broadband settings I'm using:

I have installed Ubuntu long ago, and I just loved it =), but I have been quite disappointed about the drivers support of some components, for example: I have a USB Modem ZTE MF622, my ISP is TMN. I have read about people that have configured it Ubuntu 9.04 and with another ISP, but when it comes to Ubuntu 9.10, nothing appears to be working.

I moved from Debian to Ubuntu a few months ago, with everything working fine, except my 3G modem (which worked with wvdial and umtsmon in Debian).
The packaging claims that it is a Huawei E160, but lsusb says different: E220 (12d1:1003).
I've followed various instructions from these forums and the wiki, and it seems to be being recognised as a modem (I can set up an O2 prepaid (UK) connection), but it refuses to connect.
I have a cheap and cheerful netbook (Advent 4213) that I carry around with me running the latest lucid build, it has a built in 3g modem which I like cause I don't have to carry a dongle round with me.... which I continually lose anyhow I also have two data plans, one with Orange UK and the other T-mobile UK. The 3g modem is a HUAWEI Technology.
Both sims work for normal Internet access, I can connect to email servers, access web (both http and https) sites, but when I'm using the T-mobile sim Ubuntu One crashes after about 5 mins after attempting to connect. At first I thought it was a problem with either Ubuntu One itself or the lucid build, so I tried accessing the website interface.... I can login but when I go to view my files (I am assuming you are familiar with Ubuntu One) the page "load" progress bar gets so far and then stops..... it appears to be trying to access ssl.google-analytics.com, but just sits there and eventually times out, I am assuming this timeout is what is causing the Ubuntu One to crash.
Stick the Orange sim back in and everything is OK, go back to the T-mobile sim and it no worky anymore hence the reason I think this is a T-mobile issue and not something wrong with Lucid or Ubuntu One..
So I'm not the total Linux geek but recently I have adopted Ubuntu 10.04 and overall i have been ejoying the experience... but I use Iburst Terminal to connect online... this is where the problem comes in, i have failed to install it multiple times following the following guide... [URL]
how to use it, without Internet the experience is flawed..

View 1 Replies View RelatedI live in the boonies and I have dial up. Whats worse is the ISP has a limiter on the server which cuts the speed down to 26.4 k. Every time I download and the speed gets over that, the modem pauses then starts again. It sucks. If I could just have a steady stream I would be better off.
I am using a Linuxant type hsfmodem hybrid. How can I slow the speed down on the modem so it doesn't jump over 26k so much ?
I tried adjusting the baud which shortens the duration of the pause, I think, but when I go lower it actually makes it longer.
I'm new to Ubuntu. Recently bought a lenovo x100e netbook and installed ubuntu. Is there any Ubuntu Expert based in Cape Town that can assist to configure my internal 3g modem and a few other minor issues.
