OpenSUSE :: Find All The Build-deps Or What They Are For That Matter To Build Boxee

Feb 20, 2010

I'm in love with my Opensuse 11.2. Love my KDE 4.4. The only thing I miss from my Ubuntu installation, is the ability to use Boxee. I would be more than willing to compile Boxee from source. I only have 2 problems with that:

1) I don't know where I can find all the build-deps or what they are for that matter to build Boxee.

2) I'm running on a Netbook. Yes, my measly Intel Atom is no fun for compiling and building.

What are my options/what can I do to get Boxee up and running on 11.2? I've tried searching on build service for an RPM, but I think due to legal restrictions, Boxee can't be on there.

Slackware :: Install The I386 Build On One Partition And The 64-bit Build On Another

Sep 16, 2010

Trying to install SW 13.1 (on DVD) on the following system: M/B Intel: DX38BT Processor Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 - 2.66GHz, 8MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB, Socket 775 Memory Corsair Dual Channel 8192MB PC10600 DDR3 1333MHz Memory (4x2048MB) Graphics Diamond Radeon HD 3850 Video Card - Viper, 512MB GDDR3, PCI Express 2.0 P/S Ultra 1000W

My goal is to install the i386 build on one partition and the 64-bit build on another. I have been away from Linux for a while and am sick to death of Win7, want to come home. :-}

Booted on i386 side of DVD, system freezes after a couple of lines that start with ATA2. Does not respond to 3 finger salute, ctrl-c, nothing. Have to press reset. I have tried both huge.s and hugesmp.s kernels

Booted on 64-bit side, comes up fine. I performed the install, selected for automatic lilo install. Lilo install hung but I was able to reboot. I booted off the 64-bit side again, entered the following: huge.s root=/dev/sde3 rdinit= ro It booted fully to the login prompt but the keyboard does not work, no input.

Ubuntu :: Can't Build Kst-1.9.1

Jul 30, 2010

Actually it appears to build just fine, but segfaults when run it

I'm following the recipe from here after downloading and extracting the tarball: [URL]

Compiling kst using automake:

Code:
./configure --prefix=/usr
make
sudo make install

Everything appears to work but running the application fails with sigsegv

Actually the --prefix=/usr causes the apt-get installed kst to be overwritten, but I tried --prefix=/home/wally first and then did make clean with the "documented" command after it created code that crashed. Uninstalling and re-installing kst in synaptic got my 1.5.1 kst back, but its got some issues I hope have been fixed.

I need to use Ubuntu 8.04 for this right now, but 10.04 has kst 1.7.1 which still has the issue so I'd need to build it there eventually too

In case you've never heard of Kst, its graphing program that when reading stdin can be used as a real-time strip-chart display. The issues I have with the repo versions are --geometry option doesn't change the window start up size and the -F option (to start up with a *.kst file for nice labels and layout and use stdin for real-time data).

Ubuntu :: Are There Ever More Than 1 Build Of A Given Release

I was wondering, is there ever more than one build of a given Ubuntu release (but with the same major/minor version)? That is, if I download X.10 a month after it comes out, and then I download it a few days before the next version is released, say, will it be bit-for-bit the same as the one I originally downloaded? Or does the Ubuntu team do new builds over time, fixing things, etc.?

Ubuntu :: Integrated Into A CMS, But Would Like To Build It Into Some Web Pages?

Jan 17, 2010

I know this is off Ubuntu topic, but, imo, Ubuntu is the best forum for answers on the internet.Anyone using one of these online editors ?I use it as integrated into a CMS, but would like to build it into some web pages - with sole purpose of EDITING MY WEBPAGES ONLINE. Kompozer is great, but has a mack truck hole that may never get filled and I find the (usage) simplicity of ckedit attractive.Problem is I am not able to grasp how to do it.The examples are gobbledeegook to me. I mean i try them, they work, but do not address how to integrate (maybe just over my head).Installation and usage is trivial, I just cannot grasp how (if possible) to integratethe editor INTO a webpage - better yet, direct it to a webpage.

Ubuntu Servers :: Build Is Not Working

Mar 19, 2010

I started building my server with the following goals:Quiet - it will live in a cabinet in my living room, so it should be as quiet as possible Low power consumption - not just to keep the heat (ergo cooling demands, ergo noise) down, but also to save money since it will be on 24/7 High reliability Support for 8 IDE and 2 SATA drives. (Toward this end, I have two 2-port IDE PCI controller cards and one 2-port SATA IDE controller card.) Spend as little as possible. (Money is VERY tight for me right now.)

I started with a mini-itx board I had lying around. It's fanless, with a Via Epia 700MHz CPU in it. A little anemic, but it draws very little power and is dead silent. The problem with this board is that it has 2 IDE ports on board, no SATA ports, and only one PCI slot, so I have to choose between my SATA card and my IDE card. I need - but can't have - both. I tried buying a 2-slot PCI riser card, but apparently it's incompatible (or DOA) - none of my PCI cards work when connected via this riser card. I've looked for PCI cards that have 2 x IDE + 2 x SATA ports, but anything that fits that bill is very expensive.

Now I'm thinking new motherboard & CPU - preferably something older that can be had cheaply on ebay. If it uses DDR memory (rather than DDR2), I can use the RAM I have, which saves me $25. A newer Atom-based board would be OK, but they all seem to have one PCI slot -- and not enough IDE/SATA ports to get the job done with just one PCI slot. If you can recommend a motherboard that meets all the criteria above, please post it. (Or, if you have any other ideas for handling this very cheaply, let's hear it!)

Ubuntu Installation :: How To Build A .deb Package From Git

Jan 4, 2011

I work at a small company where we use to deploy things by just checking out the repo and copying stuff to production servers. This has to come to an end, enter .deb packages!

So I'm wondering what's the best procedure to do that. I already know how to create .deb packages, most of our stuff is Python and we're going to use python-support and cdbs. But how to maximally automate this?

We have a Git repo and ideally the whole thing should work like this:

* a tag is created in the Git repo (the version can be provided manually)

* some file like 'version.py' is created so that setup.py and the packaged software can refer to it and know the tag

* changelog is created from the Git commit logs

* the package is built (that's the part I've worked out - python-support and cdbs are involved here)

* optionally, the package is uploaded somewhere

There's a .deb package named 'git-buildpackage', is it suitable for this task? So far I can tell that it has one drawback - it looks for the 'debian/' directory in the root of the repository, which is not the case - our repo consists of several subdirectories, each contains a subproject that will be packaged independently.

Ubuntu :: 10.04 Almost Unusable On Recent Pc Build?

Apr 5, 2011

I recently built a pc to run 10.04 and EMC2 from linuxcnc.org I havent even gotten to the point of trying out EMC2 on this machine because Ubuntu runs so slow. The build spec's are as follows:

http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?inv...714-CEL24-PB-R MS-6714 mobo
Intel 2.4ghz celeron processor
2x512 PC-3200 patriot ram
using integrated graphics
40gb Maxtor IDE hd

I installed using the live CD downloaded from linuxcnc.org and Ive used that same cd multiple times so I know that's not my issue. Now to my problems. The computer runs, just very very slow. Opening 2 web pages at the same time takes 2-3 minutes, and if there is a lot of pictures or content there's no point in trying. Running EMC2 works ok, but if I open a complex program in the viewer all bets are off.

Ubuntu :: Build An HTPC Using Clustering?

Jun 16, 2011

I'm trying to get an HTPC going, but I don't have any money to purchase a new computer. I have 2 desktops in my possession that I am trying to use: 1 is a 2.4 GHz with a 128 MB Radeon 9800 PRO video card (I think) and 1.5 GB RAM (the system is about 8 years old, but I built it top of the line for back then). The second system is a 3.2 GHz dual core with on board video and 2 GB RAM.The problem is, neither system will run 1080p video's without dropping hundreds of packets producing very choppy audio/video. I was wondering if it is possible to cluster these two systems together to harness both their processing power to run 1080p video? I would just jump in and attempt it, but as I have been reading, it looks like processes aren't actually shared across PC's, but auto determined which PC it will run on based on load, which is an issue since neither can cleanly run the 1080p video.
