When I use the default graphical file manger in Ubuntu, holding down the shift key and pressing the up or down arrow keys will select multiple files. This doesn't happen in Tux Commander or Gnome Commander. I tried looking through the preferences of each application and googling on my question. No dice. Is there anything I can do to get this functionality?
I hope you will be able to help me, because a day ago asked the same question to russian linux users and did not give me an answer at all. I am using xubuntu on my laptop and am completely sick and tired og thunar file manager. Found what I want - it is Gnome Commander. But really cannot find out how to make it default, especialy I would like to open it by clicking the button Folders (Places) near the Main menu button (hope I described it correct).
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen trying to create a new compressed/archive file in Gnome Commander (GM) the file is created but the selected files are not added. I can open the new (empty) archive file and then add files to be compressed. I have tried using several different formats (zip, tar.bz and others) with the same results. The "file roller" is shown as a plugin but has no configuration other than the compressed file type.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have downloaded the latest gnome commander source code from the gnome commander home page. Following the instructions in the readme I have extracted it from the tar ball and changed to the top level directory of the source code. I execute ./configure and get a bunch of "checking" results.
Quote:
bash: ./configure: No such file or directory
ken@ubuntu:~/Desktop/gnome-commander-1.2.8.9/src$ cd ..

I find Makefile.am and Makefile.in present in the directory. I generally install from deb packages. Still, I don't think it should be this hard to compile a package given the seemingly simple directions provided.
I have a DNS server at an old companies place and that box will be losing it's IP. The whois record for the domain goes to godaddy which has 2 'A' records;
ns.domain.com
ns2.domain.com which point to the current 2 DNS servers. Now if I have a new server up and running and the zones copied over, do I just need to change the 'A' location for ns.domain.com to this new IP? I remember back in the day you had to 'register' the nameserver with the registrar, etc.I haven't touched this stuff in a while, and before I go and change the IP of the nameserver, want to make sure all is in check.
Im usign photorec to recover some files that i lost during a format to my hard drive.
The program works like a charm but put all the files on differents folders. i use the find command to put on a list the jpg files but how i use the cp or the mv command to move that files in the list to another folder?
In Ubuntu, When I type sudo and hit enter, the new command will appear on the command line, instead of simply executing. This is different from other operating systems I've used, such as older ubuntu's, mac osx and debian. Is there a way of disabling this confirmation and having it simply execute the command?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am able to view my windows network from my UBUNTU desktop after being prompted for a username and password to the windows network. No problem. But how can I accomplish this from the command prompt?
Here is my windows directory; smb://corpserver/d$/Data
And here is what I am trying to accomplish;
Code:
mv /var/lib/mysql/RSecuredData.csv smb://corpserver/d$/Data/Common/Secured%20R%20Reports/$(date +%Y%m%d)_RSecuredData.csv
Basically taking a csv file and moving it from mysql directory on my Ubuntu machine to a network folder on my windows server. (Windows Server 2003)
When I try that command from the command prompt I recieve;
Code:
mv: cannot move `/var/lib/mysql/RepoSecuredData.csv' to `smb://corpserver/d$/Data/Common/Secured%20Repo%20Reports/20100323_RepoSecuredData.csv': No such file or directory
How do I move around select a file and move or copy it. All tutorials I have seen are not simple enough.

I would want someone to be able to see the content of a directory, then open the relevant document, but just for viewing purpose. They cannot copy the file, either through copy + paste or File/Save As.
Is that possible under Ubuntu?

Is any easy way to restore deleted files with Gnome Commander (v1.2.8.2)? I have external drive with two partitions: FAT32 and EXT4. I was using GC on Ubuntu 9.10 and it was working fine, today I installed openSUSE and GC is showing only EXT4 partition. Nautilus is showing both and it is working fine though.

My Eee 900 running native Xandros has a 8G Sd card installed. Each time I boot I am asked to confirm what I want to use to read the card, File Manager, Music Manager of Photo Manager. Is there any way of skipping this step or making the use of File Manager a default?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm writing a script and I'm stuck. I need to read from keyboard to ask for confirmation while Im reading from a file. My code is this:
while read linea
do #code
echo "you sure? (y/n)"
read answer
#code
done < $"agenda.dat"
The problem is that stdinput has been redirected to file agenda.dat so when I do "read answer" it reads the next line from the file.

Code:
$scp * system2:/some_directory
There are many files in PWD of system1 with different extensions. Of all the files in the PWD on system1, I don't need a file called *residual.dat as it it particularly big and wastes a lot of time copying.How can I make a shortcut so that every time I do scp, it copies everything but the *residual.dat file?

In source folder we have many sub folders and many files of different type!Script that would copy or move defined number of files from source to destination folder. Files must be selected randomly and sub folder in source folders must be selected randomly and we don't copy or move defined number of files just form one sub folder in source folder. In destination folder sub directory structure of source folder should not be preserved. Solution should be robust and as simple as possible.
