Has anyone else experienced this? I am running Parcellite in daemon mode, and it's working fine for all applications except Firefox. When it's closed, whatever was copied from it can no longer be pasted by Ctrl-V, but middle click still works (?!). Any ideas what might be causing this? Does it happen for you too?

Anyone know of a clipboard manager that doesn't use the panel?
I want to access all my copys without the panel. I've looked into Glippy and Pastie. By playing with them for five minutes it doesn't seems possible for them.

I make use of the clipboard manager a lot, and have just replaced Clipman with ClipIt on my Debian 8 (Xfce) host. I also have a Debian 8 (and 7) VM with Xfce, but without xfce4-panel, so no taskbar. Is there a way to make use of a clipboard manager with no panel/taskbar? I have ClipIt installed on the 8 VM, but do not have obvious access to it. It's the last hurdle to eliminating the taskbar/panel for me...... meaning eliminating the taskbar, yet keeping all the functionality.
I started using Xfce without xfce4-panel, when I decided that Openbox was a little too spartan for me...... at least without spending a lot of time to customize it, which I probably will do eventually, but for now, I am staying with Xfce.

I would like to know what clipboard managers are out there that are able to run independently of any system tray, or what have you, such as gnome panel. Ideally ones providing full keyboard navigation, that is for calling up the program and selecting from it.
I have tried anamnesis, which can operate as a stand alone program and does appear to offer some keyboard navigation, and whilst it wasnt as attractive or discreet as programs like glipper, parcellite, clipman, etc, i was willing to go with it. However, keyboard navigation is really problematic (maybe to do with how i have set it up, though i doubt it as its installation is so basic), so i have had to abandon it for now.
Am i using it wrong? Anyone else managed to select from it with the keyboard? I think iv googled this to death, but perhaps someone knows of something all the same.
I ask as i am using Openbox and am considering ditching gnome panel, as it is slow loading at boot and wont fully hide (one pixel!). Aside from that a panel icon is unnecessary in my case, as i am more keyboard focused, and it also wastes space that could be better used for the graphical windows list, especially when your rocking a single panel.

I'd like to have a Linux machine run what Windows users typically call a clipboard as a network service on my small LAN (about 10 machines). More specifically I am looking to have Linux run the clipboard service centrally in the LAN with both Windows and *nix machines able to connect to it as opposed to the peer-to-peer sync model that I am seeing in almost all of the applications I've discovered thus far.

I'm using Parcellite right now since whenever I copy something from Firefox and close it before pasting, whatever I copied is gone. Parcellite fixes this, but I don't want it to be on my tray all the time. How can I hide it?

In the lower right corner was always the icon to let me know that the network is working, the 2 monitors?. Also in that corner was the program Parcellite that I used all the time. I accidentally deleted them both and now cannot get them back. I can't even start Parcellite from the menu and when i try to start it from the terminal this is what I get:
[Code]...
I've tried removing parcellite by uninstalling it, then reinstalling it and i still get the same thing. I even uninstalled it, then rebooted, then installed it again and still nothing. What the heck did i do??? any clues?

After installing 11.04 and settling on Ubuntu Classic, I used Synaptic Package Manager to add Glipper, my long-favorite clipboard manager. After some difficulty, I discovered that in 11.04, Glipper is activated by opening the Terminal and issuing the CLI "glipper". This initiates several steps in the Terminal, which for me always failed to conclude. However, after giving up, exiting the Terminal, and doing a number of other things, I had occasion to restart. Following the restart, the Glipper icon was in the panel, and Glipper was working just fine.
FWIW, the difficulties I mentioned above included making several tries at installing ClipIt. In every case, any attempt on my part to actually use ClipIt resulted in a complete freeze. I could recover from these freezes only by cutting off the power to my desktop and then re-powering and re-booting. (Needless to say, ClipIt is no longer installed on my desktop.)

It started with Update Manager constantly recycling and not updating. When it starts it shows 295 files and 308MB waiting to download. When I click on 'Install Updates' it appears to go through the process, and then presents me with the same 'waiting to install' window again - and again, and again - in fact as many times as I care to click the 'Install Updates' button. No error messages appear. The 'Settings' button produces the same apparent process as the 'Install Updates' button, but doesn't present me with any other screen.
I've tried all the solutions I could find on these forums and nothing works. The sudo suggestions for Terminal usually produce error codes. adjusting a line in the 'hosts' file. When I tried this I was presented with the obstacle of not having access to the read-only file, and no matter how much I searched I couldn't find how to gain access . While investigating all these possible solutions, I was directed in turn to the Software Sources and Synaptic Package Manager applications, but when I attempted to start them, 'Starting Administrative Application' appeared briefly on the taskbar - and then disappeared!

I'm NOT asking about clipboard managers like Glipper, Parcellite, GNOME itself should let configure clipboard behaviour: package "gnome-settings-daemon" includes "Clipboard management" - this is installed and running by default.[URL].. But - where I can make settings of clipboard ?
I have thing, in "gnome-control-center" - there are many applets, corresponding to gnome-settings-daemon plugins. But I can't find no clipboard setting. Where is it ? I remember, in past (maybe it was in KDE desktop (?)) I could set, if my X selections should be added to "ctrl-c" list and vice versa or not. This is what I need.
But once again - I do not ask about installing Clipboard managers. I'm asking - where is standard GNOME clipboard setting in Lucid.

I have upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04 and I am using the classic ubuntu interface instead of Unity. I am facing problems with the Archive Manager. My problem is that I can open archives but I can not modify them or create a new zip file with the GUI. I get an error saying:
zip error: Invalid command arguments (no such option: -)
The easiest way to reproduce it is by right-clicking on any file, pressing compress and selecting .zip in the file format.

I'm running 10.10 and cannot seem to figure out why apt-get is not working.
It will generally get to the point where it should be unpacking the replacement, but it just hangs there. I have looked to find a way around that, but right now, I'm still looking at
Code:
Unpacking replacement libperl5.10 ...
I've had to sudo kill -9 dpkg and apt-get and delete the lock in /var/lib/dpkg/ which may have caused more problems... It seems like the problem started when I attempted to upgrade my version of Flash.

Update manager on my computer (running ubuntu 10.04) isn't working. I can open it up from the System menu, but when I press "check" or "Install updates" it the cursor just spins in circles like it's thinking but it never does anything. I can't even quit the program.
I recently did two things that might have caused the problem.
1) I upgraded yesterday from 8.04 to 10.04. I don't remember if I ran Upgrade Manager or not earlier today but I think I might have.
2) I have a dual-boot system and I re-partitioned my hard drive this evening. I shrunk the partition with Ubuntu on it, moved the swap partition over, and expanded the Windows partition. The first time I logged in after re-partitioning the hard drive I got an information message saying that the Update manager hadn't loaded correctly. That was when I first noticed the problem, so I suspect that it has something to do with me moving around files in the re-partitioning.

I'm a newbie in Linux (ubuntu) environment. Well my prob started as I tried to install several w-lan applications. I tried them out and deleted them again. Till (I don't remember the name of the prog) I finally shoot "network manager". I tried some things like:
Second installation of ubuntu to get back internet.
Downloaded some deb files and installed them in off-line mode.
But it doesn't work because some not satisfiable things happened now I tried to fix over USB live to fix it no chance. What I need is a possibility to install from USB on my first system or boot system one and USB on the same time to use the internet per switching or something like that. Maybe it's possible to update my system wile the USB system is running? Or is there a possibility to use the ubuntu CD and install all needet packages from there because network manager is already in Ubuntu. I think that all OS company's have to think about that , when they deliver a OS that you can choose or afterwords reinstall progs from the original source ...or what?
