I installed Linux Mint 8 (which I believe is a flavor of Ubuntu 9.10) and I have everything good except for the GDebi and APT installations
Previously I was able to open a .DEB file when Firefox prompted me to choose what to do, now it doesn't.
Same thing with the APT option. With Getdeb apps I use to be able to click the INSTALL NOW and it would prompt me to install using APT. Like the GDebi, it doesn't do this anymore.
How can I get it so Firefox can open .DEB files in it along with the APT command
I can not install using apt or gdebi or dpkg.
I used gdebi to install xplico and killed it (oops) while it was installing.
I tried all of these.
apt-get clean
apt-get autoclean
apt-get autoremove
apt-get -f install
[Code].....
For the past week, I haven't been able to install anything using GDebi. Every time I do, it says that only one software managment tool may be open at once. It always says this, despite it being the only one open. What's wrong?
View 6 Replies View RelatedDebian didn't come with gdebi (atleast I don't think so) and installing software from deb packages is a bit of a hassle I get tired of going through command line (plus iI read that gdebi automatically downloads the dependencies if needed) I am using the debian install dvd which has more packages on it but I don't think gdebi is included.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am running Debian Squeeze with XFCE. I have installed gdebi, but when I try to run it as gdebi-gtk it gets to the point of password entry, lets me do this then closes before installing the package. It worked fine for the first few, and it works as gdebi from the command line, so I can only guess that it is linked to something with gtk graphical front end. I tried removing using apt-get remove and reinstalling as well as purging the cache and checking for broken dependencies.
This is the output when I run gdebi-gtk from terminal

I've been having issues with the omega.cert on Pidgin and tried to upgrade to 2.7.7 today. I clicked on the link from the Pidgin site to download the ppa package "pidgin-ppa_0.0.3_all.deb" and tried to open with GDebi Package Installer but it tells me it couldn't be opened because an unknown error occurred.

View 5 Replies View RelatedHere at home I have several Ubuntu installations, mine, the kids computers and a couple of laptops. What I'm looking for is a solution or a pointer in the right direction to setup on our local Ubuntu server a sort of cache. Each day each Ubuntu on the network, checks for updates and downloads, and installs. What I'm looking for is a way for one machine to download the update and then the others to download from the local resource.
A sort of local cache to try and minimise everyone downloading straight from the net for pretty much the same updates. I did a emerge cache many years ago when I was using Gentoo, so I'm wondering what I can use/do here with Ubuntu as we are all loving this distro now.
can we use recursive download of wget to download all the wallpapers on a web page?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI haved tried 3 times to download DVD-7 from http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/...md64/jigdo-dvd, and every time it has failed with just 5 files left to download.
It says:
I cannot begin to describe. All those hours of downloading for nothing! What the heck is happening here? When I try to just continue on, I get error code 3 aborts and have to just start all over.
First I go to the following URL to download the latest version of VLC Player, which I greatly prefer to Totem or any other standard Linux video/audio player: http://www.fileguru.com/Movie-Player/download. After I click on the "Download" link, a new window appears which asks me if I want to 1) Open with Archive Manager (default) or 2) Save File. There is a drop down arrow next to the first choice which only gives "Other..." as the only other choice. Well, if I choose the first option, the download appears as an .exe file in the "Downloads" window.
A window with "Download Error" in its Title Bar appears with the following message in it: "/tmp/VLC_Player_Setup-3.exe could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences." I don't even know yet how to even open up an .exe file in Linux, despite repeated research.
In both my updater applet and in YAST, I keep getting the error that:
download failed:
download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Community/openSUSE_11.2/repodata/repomd.xml
I've been getting this error when trying to upgrade packages with slapt-get:
Failed to download: Incomplete download
Not sure what's going on. I tried to use --clean and tried to use a different mirror, but still getting the error.
Which download manager i can use for linux and how...kindly let me know can i use windows download manager such as DAP or internet download manager with wine in linux...
View 1 Replies View Relatedi just installed ubuntu 9.10 on my laptop and i went on a website and was required to download the newest flash player, i started the download. in the middle of the download i lost my connection to the internet and the download froze, i reconnected it and it didn't continue (not that i expected it to) so i tried to close it but it wouldn't, i tried everything i could, it just wouldn't close, it was frozen like that, so i decided all i can do is restart my comp. after i restarted my computer no downloads work anymore. i tried redownload flash and this is the error i got:E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the probelmE:_cache->open() failed, please report.
i tried running Sudo dpkg --configure -a but it only read sudo, so after that i tried it without the sudo, so just dpkg --configure -a and this is the response i got:requested operation requires superuser privilegeso i don't know what to do now. i get the exact same error when i try to download ubuntu updates as when i try to download flash.another downloading problem that i have is when i try to download something from Ubuntu software center the download progress bar shows up and under the downlaod name it says "waiting for other software managers to quit" and the progress stays at 0%, no matter how long you wait it stays that way, it's like that with anything i try to download from Ubuntu software Center andrestarting my comp dosen't help at all.

It is not the Windows local disk c:downloads folder. What "means" C: in Linux?
