Yesterday I run Getright from Wine launcher, and it downloaded files to the C:DOWNLOAD folder, which I can't find it.
It is not the Windows local disk c:downloads folder. What "means" C: in Linux?
I'm new to Linux, I guess it must be in home or so but I can't find it.
I haved tried 3 times to download DVD-7 from http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/...md64/jigdo-dvd, and every time it has failed with just 5 files left to download.
It says:
I cannot begin to describe. All those hours of downloading for nothing! What the heck is happening here? When I try to just continue on, I get error code 3 aborts and have to just start all over.

I'm trying to download a set of files with wget, and I only want the files and paths "downwards" from a URL, that is, no other files or paths. Here is the comand I have been using

The wget works okay, downloads all the files I need into the /Publisher path, and then it starts loading files from other paths. If you see [URL]..svn/trunk/modules/publisher , I only want those files, plus the paths and files beneath that URL.
When we download ubuntu iso images from the download mirrors, md5sums, sha1sums and sha256sums are provided for the download. But, there are also some .gpg files provided. Are they used to verify some signature or something? How do I use them to verify the signatures of the packages?

I want to be able to login anonymously without a password, see files to download and upload files to a pub folder.
After installing and configuring vsftpd I created the ftp_priv user by doing "sudo useradd -d /home/ftp_priv -m ftp_priv".
Then I added a folder /home/ftp_priv/pub with permissions 777 and a test file.

So, the problem is that every single bittorrent program I tried downloads files I checked to ignore so I know this is not a program related issue. For example, there are 2 pictures in a torrent, I select only one but in the end I have both downloaded.

Just completed downloading kubuntu-9.10-dvd-amd64.iso and found that a few files were corrupted. Would rather not download again since I have a slow connection and this download took almost 80 hours!!

I recently downloaded ubuntu 10.4 and have recently solved my network problem. I enjoy listening to music, and I want to download it... but how!!!!! I have a firefox browser and have tried to download mp3 files (usually off beemp3). Once I press download it immediately brings me to a new window or tab and just plays it for me. There is no download no matter what application I install for linux or firefox. Is it just linux that doesn't allow me to download mp3 files or is it something to do with firefox?

I have Vuze installed on a Windows machine wired to the same router and the application there worked fine, right from the start. What more do I need to do to make it work on Lucid?

Anyway, I am about to move into a place with an incredibly slow internet connection and a tiny data allowance and my brother has said that, if possible, I can use his internet connection to download any large files to a box I can just leave at his place, then I can simply come over to his place every few weeks and copy said files to a hard drive and all will be well. The problem is that I am not sure how to do this.
Today I went out and bought a few parts and built a cheap computer with a HDD big enough to hold whatever I need, however when I got home I realised I had no idea how I was going to handle the software aspect of this. Is there any way that I can access that computer remotely over the internet and schedule fairly large downloads from an http server? Also after talking to a friend I was told that I need to install the server version of ubuntu if this is to work, is this correct? Also, if its relevant the specs of the computer I have for this is using an "Intel Desktop Board D510M0 + Intel Atom Processor D510" which uses 64 bit architecture.
Been a while since I had the 'update information is outdated' irritant, but it is back with me now. It was on 10.04 anyway and I am now running 10.10. I've checked for updates manually and get:

Our server is running Fedora (running a live commerce site) recently we had some security updates applied so i can no longer connect remotely via SSH root. Using PUTTY i now connect under a different username and then SU under the root user/pass. All is fine, now all i want to do is download a file in the tmp2 directory. /tmp2/apache2-gdb-dump Can anyone tell me1) How would i download this file using Putty/SSH command 2) I'd much rather user a GUI tool for this kind of work but the substitute user step doesnt seem to be supported by common apps,as FileZilla.With this in mind, is there some software or steps i can take so i can connect, run a su command and use a nice gui to transfer these files
