Ubuntu :: Gnome3 - Changed The Theme In Tweak To 'dust And Sand' But Don't Get The Window Frames Changing
May 25, 2011
I've changed the theme in tweak to 'dust and sand' but I don't get the window frames changing. There's a blue surround that didn't change with the theme change. Also I'm assuming the button layout will revert once the window frames do....Like the gnome3 interface better than unity though.

I'm slowly getting used to Gnome 3 and trying to give it a chance. After a few oddities (like it swallowing my Gnome Shell and Tilda invocations because I use Super in them) then I think I'm slowly getting used to it. There are still some things I miss from Compiz, but it has potential and I like some bits (the notifications and dialogs).I don't know what got upgraded, but my themes seemed to be working before yet today I've got the default Sonar rather than my darker Sonar theme with a fixed Chromium style. I've managed to change the titlebar theme, but I can't change the GTK theme or the icon theme.
Running "gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.interface icon-theme" reports "Tango-green", but I still have the default icon theme and using Appearances only partially works.Running "gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.interface gtk-theme" reports "SonarLighter" (the menu bar is lighter to match the Uniq theme) but I'm definitely seeing Sonar.I've tried gnome-tweak-tool from someone's OBS, but various dependencies seem to be missing (first it bails with the wrong GI version, then I updated some other bits and tried again, but even after switching a dozen or more packages then it never started).

I have some problems with Ubuntu 10.04. Sometimes system starts and there is no title bar on windows. Nothing helps, only logout and logina again. I've searched forums and found that it is possible to add line '/usr/bin/compiz' to starting applications, but this is not helping. I'm stuck. Other problem is that sometimes recently theme is changed. If I go to 'Appearance' then theme suddenly changes back.

I've selected the Dusk Dark theme, but the menu names are of the same color (I have to look extremely closely at the monitor to see the names of the menus. I assumed the font color of the menu names would change to a color (such as white) that would contrast the near black color of the Dust Dark theme. How can I change thisBy the way, I'm really uncomfortable with the Ubuntu layout. How can I switch to multiple windows without using Alt-Tab? Like access the Windows taskbar?

It says Fix committed and has been that way since June? Yet the bug is still present in 10.10?Does Fix Committed not mean Fixed yet or Released and that they are still looking to merge the changes into final code?

Compiz was installed and working when I installed the 'new' ubuntu. (x86-64) What I did:installed my nvidia driver, enabled secondary screen (twinview) Installed some extra compiz plugins using aptitude. Tried to enable the desktop cube, and with that automatically disabling the desktop cube. And bang, no more window frames.. I tried with GTK window decorator and with emerald. It doesn't make any difference. Now I am running meta-city and emerald without any desktop effects.

I have installed Gnome3 from gnome3-team PPA. Now the desktop has both gtk-2 as well as gtk-3 applications. I have observed that gtk-2 applications use a different theme while gtk-3 applications use a different one. Using gnome-tweak-tool, I'm able to change theme for gtk-3 applications, but I don't seem to be able to find a way to change the theme of gtk-2 applications.

I have been running Gnome 3 for a few days now and really like it, but need to tweak it to my liking, basically to an overall darker theme. Something similar to this is what I am shooting for: I have figured out how to do the shell themes (top bar, dock, etc) but I am having problems with the window manager themes (window title bars, window backgrounds, etc). Using the Gnome-Tweak_Tool, I can apply the pre-installed ones, but I am at a loss as to how I add new ones. I have tried adding themes to ~/.themes, and /usr/share/gnome-shell/themes, but I am unable to get them to show up to be usable in the tweak tool. I am comfortable using the command line and/or editing configuration files if that is the only way.

I'd like to edit a few frames from some videos, and then return them to the video stream for playback. What are the best tools to do this with?
I tried exporting a frame with Kino, editing with GIMP, and then re-inserting it into Kino, but Kino rejected the attempt.
Will Kino do this, or do I need to be using something else?

Way back from Windows 3.x days to the latest 64bit Windows 7 (classic/standard theme)there is a way to make the window edge border wider then 1 pixel.I often use 3 to 5 pixel to make it easy to grab on hi-resolutions displays and hi DPI monitors. There doesn't seem to be an easy or obvious way to do this with the Gnome X-Windowing system?

I have Debian Testing. My theme is Equinox Light and it was working well except for "Passwords and Encrypton keys" app (Version3.02). That doesn't bothered me. But after todays upgrade from gnome-terminal (2.3.2-1) to gnome-terminal3 Equinox theme doesn't work. My themes are installed in /usr/share/themes folder. It doesn't matter if i copy them to my home theme folder. It seems that gnome3 apps doesn't support
Reverting to previous version fixes the problem but i want to have version 3 with nice theme. Ho w can i achieve it?

I've executed the Update Manager, which ran an updating process that took long( ten minutes to half an hour, I think). Then, I was asked to restart the computer and I shut it down.2-3 hours later, I turned on the PC and here's how my desktop looks like since then(see attached screenhot).I guess that's the theme in releases 9.10 and lower. However, notice the window borders and title bars are just the same as before. Is this normal? If not, what could be the cause and what could I do about it?

After installing the nvidia drivers and rebooting my theme changed to an ugly gray theme. Changing the theme in the System>Preferences>Appearance only changes the window title bars but everything else stays in this ugly gray theme.
The drivers are installed and working (visual effects work).
I also updated everything from the Update Manager before rebooting. Also this is a brand new install. Only changes are from the Update Manager and the Driver utility. Every thing looked fine before I rebooted (default ubuntu 10.10 theme)
How can I get rid of the this gray theme?
Also I am new to ubuntu, mainly use GUIs to set things up. I'm not afraid of the terminal, but I just don't know my way around the Linux file system yet.

I installed Ubuntu for the ability to easily change the system wide locale and language settings. However I've noticed a strange thing when logging in to my account with Japanese set as the language. Although I'm using the default "Ambiance" theme, the folder icons in Nautilus and some other styling seem to change to a different (much uglier) theme. For example on the top panel the network connection icon also reverts to an blue computer screen icon from the other theme, although other icons on the panel and the rest of the styling remains as the correct theme!
I'm now back in English locale, and my theme is normal again. In fact I don't even see the ugly other theme in the theme selector window. I haven't noticed this problem using other languages such as French and Russian. It's only a stylistic theme, but it's really ugly and really bugging me. what might be going wrong?EDIT***********************Ok I just logged back in again using the Japanese locale in order to post a screencap, and of course the problem has vanished now! I already logged in and out a number of times earlier to see if it would solve the problem and it didn't

moments after I log in to my Ubuntu 10.10 32-bit desktop my theme reverts to the "classic" Ubuntu theme and icons. I can open appearance and change it back, but I have to do this every time I log on. It also changes the theme, but whenever I right click my desktop or open Nautilis, it still looks like the "classic" theme. Is this an already existing problem? is there a fix?

For example there are some packages that you can install but they change everything and make it look like windows, including the menus. I just want the color. Or at least something like this theme for google chrome I have. i'm attaching a picture of the google chrome theme so you can look at it and tell me if it is possible to get it on ubuntu,

Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on a Dell XPS Studio 8000 - I find that on occasion the desktop theme seems to change itself. I have selected Clearlooks. The desktop generally looks correct as shown in the first attachment. Then for some unknown reason the desktop changes - most obvious are the buttons which are now square cornered rather than round cornered. See the second attachment. Appearance Preferences usually still shows the Theme as Clearlooks although I have had it change to "Custom" a time or two. Logout/login does not fix the problem. A reboot will fix the problem and return to the correct Clearlooks Theme

Just upgraded to 10.10. My appearance preferences are set to the "ambient" theme, but when I reboot, the system changes the toolbar/icons etc to the hideous "no-theme" (windows-looking grey with big icons) appearance. When I click on System->Preferences->Appearance it immediately loads up Ambience without me having to select it (like it knows that it's been naughty!) I'm on a tiny-screen netbook. I suspect that 10.10 is not saving the appearance settings properly.

does anyone know how to change the panel colors independent of theme? I like the theme I am on, but I want to lighten up my panel colors a little to contrast morwith my background. If you are wondering, I tried gnome-color-chooser and I cannot figure out how to change every panels color with that in 10.10; just parts of panels.
