I am wanting to compile Firefox 5, which requires GTK+ 2.10, which requires glib 2.28, which requires zlib 1.2.5.When I install zlib 1.2.5, Ubuntu 10.04 brakes and I have to remove the zlib files for it to work again.Anyone got an idea why is this happening?Try it in a virtual machine and watch Ubuntu 10.04 fail.

I've recently installed fedora 12 and I'm trying to install setuptools using the following commands:

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am trying to setup a virtual machine on virtualbox on slack64 13.1. It's purpose is to be gateway pc, so the vm's are only gonna be here until a VM server will be setup - but that could easily complete after 2 months. The test-phase setup is that this gw () is part of the internal network and I have only attached 1-2 clients that it serves (ie these clients belong to a 2nd level internal network). I do most of the setup by ssh'ing from the INET if (my pc is also part of the internal network and not of the 2nd level one).
As fas as my vm in vbox is concerned, I have setup a bridged connection to eth0 (the LOCAL if), since I'm gonna be running a printer server out of that vm (so NAT'ing would perplex the setup) The problem is that all of a sudden, when virtualbox is running the INET if gets broken, and I lose connection to the gw, from the INET side only! the LOCAL if is still working, the 2nd level clients are working fine. I doesn't occur when I do something specific but it is a frequent crash nevertheless. I can push my luck too; from the INET side of the gw I had :-an ssh session open, -an X session open - so that I could have access to the gui of virtualbox application and my running vm. -an ssh tunnel on port 139 in order to bypass the gw's firewall and get access to some samba shares on the gw. I tried 3 times to copy a 2GB iso image from my pc to the gw and all 3 times the INET if broke. Finally, if i disable start up of the virtualbox and restart the machine, the problem doesn't occur.. (i'm 16h without virtualbox and the INET if hasn't broken - the same was true before I started setting up my vm).Has anyone experienced problems with virtualbox and the physical interfaces? Especially when using bridged virtual interfaces?
When I install wine the add/remove program wants to install both 86_64 and i686 files. I have the x86_64 version of Fedora 14. I am having problems with counterstrike and have installed it using Wine, have noted problems when both types of files are installed.
I would like to have Fedora set up just right but as with all Linux distros, am having trouble keeping my head above water with fc14. I have success up to a point and then want to go back to Windows for its simplicity. Just this wine problem
i have tried following the instructions for installing but nothing seems to work that do i need to know or ask that i am not doing to make this work. i made a dvd from the .iso but it does not want to do anything. i talked with the board manufacture about the bios needing to recognize the dvd but he said that bios does not have anything to do with it. it only sees it as an optical drive. what are the files on the dvd that the boot system needs to see for it to work? and lastly why does linux have to make things sooooo difficult.

But I have to do so by: clicking 'ubuntu one' in top bar, and click 'account' in prompt that appears. Shouldn't log in take place automatically? Being logged in I'm able to make new folders. And appearently able to enter them (they are empty I quess) If I try to upload a file clicking 'upload file' in ubuntu one. A prompt appears and I choose the file to upload and click 'continue'. The prompt says "uploading" but nothing happens. If I choose a document folder and click 'mouse click right'. And then click 'sync with ubuntu one'. It prompts that it syncs the folders. But nothing happens.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been using Eclipse to program in Java for a long time, and have been using Jigloo for most of my GUI design. Recently I decided to try out the C/C++ plugin. I tried installing it, but it did not work. After many attempts, I finally gave up. However, after uninstalling it I found that Jigloo had stopped working. Any other plugins I try to install now also don't work. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling plugins, and reinstalling eclipse, but nothing I have done fixes it. Although eclipse says that the software has been installed, nothing shows up in the features list or the plugins list.
Another problem: When I install eclipse from the repositories, it doesn't install a bunch of libraries and eclipse cannot recognize standard java files.

View 9 Replies View Relatedi recently had a problem with the Ubuntu 10.10 installation, so what I did was that I reinstalled 10.04 on another side of the hard disk partition.
Now i want to remove all the files on the Ubuntu 10.10 and also remove the boot screen that comes up asking me to choose.
I mistakenly moved a folder to the trash where it is stuck. I have tried moving it back to its original location using 2 methods, drag and drop, menu -edit- move. I'm not sure if this is normal or not, though I know at least part of this wasted space is taken up by at least two failed attempts at creating Swap Files. Ubuntu says I have no Swap space whatsoever, so is there any way I can delete all these failed and unconnected Swap Files so that I could free up some spacend hopefully create one working one

I used synaptic package manager to remove tomboy notes and marked it for complete removal. But when I typed "locate tomboy" in the terminal window there were over 50 folders or files listed. Is there a single command I can use to remove all these or do they have to be deleted one by one.
