View 1 RepliesI remember this was discussed some time ago but I cannot find the thread any more. I was just wondering if others are still seeing the same problem . I've had this all through 4.4.3 and now with 4.4.4. For some reason if only the logout or lock button is selected and placed on the far right of the panel then part of the button is chopped off. This only happens with the panel locked. If both buttons are selected then they display correctly. I also notice that when only one button is selected that it's size is slightly smaller than when both are selected. Also it only seems to be the logout/lock widget that has this problem.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSituation is that there are two users on a Linux server- say A and B.A has been operating a shell script that in turn makes use of and exe file.The script and exe both are owned by user A.My problem is that I want user B to make use of the script and exe in exactly the same way user A does.So I have set suid bit of the script, exe and all the library files that the exe uses.But the exe is still not executing from user B.I did a man of chmod on Linux server and it gave an indication that SUID is disabled on new Linux servers.Now the question is, is there any other command that can perform the same task as SUID did on Unix.

I have a HP Pavilion dv4 that is 4 months old. Yesterday it suddenly seemed to restart then once I logged in it turned off. When I tried to turn it on some of the lights came on and the caps lock and num lock started flashing. Since then I have not been able to get it to work correctly.It once seemed to turn on but died again after the login window.I tried to use my live cd but the same thing happened. It started loading once, but then shut down again. Every other time it stayed dead minus the lights

The step "Enable Full DVD Playback(Dual Layer DVD Support)" did not finish correctly doh and now I can't use 'sudo apt-get' for anything or the software center or using the 'Update Manager' does not work.
The update manger says it may be caused by an update not finishing correctly which sounds correct as explained above. The apt-get command gives me back the following....'Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock resource temporarily unavailable' 'unable to lock administration directory /var/lib/dpkg is another process using it?'
I tried the obvious restart but that hasn't worked.
my problem is the terminal:

View 1 Replies View RelatedThere is a very strange problem I've been having. When I enable either Caps Lock or Num Lock the media controls on my keyboard cease to work. I have Googled this one to death but found nothing. This problem existed in Xubuntu 9.10 and now still exists in Xubuntu 10.04. The keyboard I use is a Logitech Elite Keyboard. I would love to be able to use the Caps Lock and Num Lock without the worry that I am disabling the media controls
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have just burned the latest CD using infraRecorder, as per the instructions on this site, however when I boot from this CD, it spends about 5 minutes moving the red balls across my screen, then all of the sudden it just freezes, and my caps and scroll lock lights start to blink. I've had a look in the forums already but there's nothing about this happening on Boot of the live CD.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering why the num lock doesn't work in Ubuntu anymore? When you press the "num lock" key, you're supposed to be able to input the numbers along with + - * / and decimal point. When I press num lock and try typing numbers, nothing happens.
I've done a google search and this is a well known problem that nobody has fixed. In Windows it's never a problem.
Seems such a shame that the great Ubuntu and Linux are so good for stability and speed, but can't get a simple num lock working.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI started using gnome sticky notes along with the Compiz widget layer in Ubuntu 10.04. The problem I'm having is that word wrap on the sticky notes is hit-or-miss. Most of the time the notes will automatically stretch horizontally (even beyond the size of a workspace) rather than break at its current window size. The only other problem I've noticed is that if I right-click on the title of a note, the resulting menu doesn't display correctly (it's looks like a line).Should I reinstall the package it belongs to?

Does anyone else have a resource monitor appearing on their KDE desktop? My is in the upper-right corner, and lies on top of all other windows. I can work with windows beneath it alright, but it is always showing.
The resource monitor is always translucent, and appears to have some sort of vertical "thermometer"-style usage scale on its left side. Beside that are two scrolling graphs. The only text/label appears to be a percentage that matches the thermometer bar, but there is nothing to tell me what resources are being monitored. Regardless, I use other resource monitoring software and I do not want this one on my desktop.
I just installed F13, and many things have changed (was using FC4!). When I restart my network, my NIC card does not come back up with the correct info, and for the life of me, I can't figure out why. I have chosen to use automatic login. But every now and then I am asked for username and password when the computer boots. When I do get automatically login the screen resolution is changed to 800 x 600 instead of 1280 x 1024. How do I get those two (resolution and log in) settings sticky?

How does Compiz automatically decide which windows should be sticky (i.e. should be visible on all workspaces)? Windows such as gnome-panel and cairo-dock always stay on the visible workspace, without requiring additional configuration. How does Compiz figure this out?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a folder that contains my group's website. The ownership of the entire directory is set to "www-data.website" (website being a group). I want to set the sticky bit on this directory such that if anyone creates a new file, either in the main directory or subdirectories, the ownership remains like above.
Q1: I have the sticky bit set on the main directory (drwxrwsr-x). But for some reason, some of the subdirectories don't have the sticky bit set. Is there a command I can use to change the sticky bit on Directories Only (i.e., not on the files)?
Q2: Is there a sticky bit that I can set for the ownership (not group) so that it is always set to www-data?
after managing to install ubuntu onto a Samsung n220 netbook, when I boot up im presented with just a black screen. I have tried to follow the sticky [URL] but I am slightly lost. I can press CTRL ALT F1 and get a login prompt - tty1. The commands from the sticky do not seem to work or do anything, and certain ones listed come back with a "Command not found" error.
