Ubuntu :: Webcam Isn't Liking Showing Me To Other People ?

Mar 7, 2010

I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 (2.6.31-20-generic) and I've installed my camera (Microdia Win2 PC Camera 0c45:613b) and it works fine and everything locally. But as soon as it connects to a contact on MSN or skype and I've tried a web chatroom aswell. and same issue.

Now is it the Camera? 'Coz when I've had the cam installed on Windows XP it wouldn't work on MSN either. But if it the camera then, why does it work locally like it should on the net....

Ubuntu Servers :: MySQL Not Liking My Sloppy Tarring / Way Around Having To Do So?

Mar 10, 2010

In backing up my server, I back up my databases with mysqldump. I save that file in /tmp, tar it (w/ gzip), and move it to the backup storage.

However, while phpmyadmin handles .tar.gz, it doesn't like my file, since the .sql file isn't in the root directory of the archive.

That is... when I run tar, it saves the entire directory structure leading up to the file... which is what it's supposed to do.

If I want to import my database back, I need to untar it first, which I don't mind, but I was wondering if there was a way around having to do so...

Ubuntu Servers :: 10.04 Not Liking Localhost - 402 Forbidden Error

Mar 3, 2011

I am still a newbie at Linux, but have managed to get about 6 different Kubuntu systems up and all running a localhost test web server. I always start out with a server .iso and after installing I add a kubuntu desktop GUI. I have an old laptop that was running 8.04 server w/xubuntu desktop gui and it was running my test web pages through localhost. I got a wild hair and thought it was about time to upgrade to 10.04 server. I always do a complete install and this time I tried lubuntu desktop GUI. I really like lubuntu but for some reason can not get localhost to run. I get a 402 forbidden error. same error with 127.0.0.1 Here is what I get when I run this command

Programming :: Programmers And People That Understand The OS?

Apr 24, 2011

Well I get my other 2 questions answered , I have one last question that has been buggy me.Anyone know why windows use so many files just to keep the OS going and so bloated? The under line of files of windows is messy and loads self every where and very bloated with windows and windows vista and windows 7 very much so.I'm not sure if Linux /Mac OS X is like this or not .

I know windows needs to support alot more software and hardwar but is that not where drivers come in for the hardware. And programmers need to write the software for windows or Linux / Mac OS X.

Ubuntu Installation :: How Many People Install / Home On A Separate Partition

Mar 20, 2011

I've read several accounts of users who upgraded Ubuntu versions and ran into problems. I read that putting /home on a separate partition can make it easier to do upgrades. But it seems to me application versions and even the default applications themselves change so much between Ubuntu releases that I question whether it's a good idea to have all the "OLD" config files and settings that get stored in /home sitting around when running a new Ubuntu release.Does anyone think it's a better idea to just put the whole Ubuntu install (i.e., / and /home) on the same partition? And then when upgrading, backup, and then just fresh install everything (to get the cleanest possible installation)?

OpenSUSE Network :: FreeNX For People Upgrading To 11.3?

Just incase anyone is suffering from the same problem as I was after upgrading to 11.3 that there was no such file or directory in /var/lib/nxserver/db/running/sessionID. I found the answer in another forum and thought i would post it here. Basically there is a change in the openssl library used to calculate the md5sum used by nx which stopped it from connecting.

Putting
COMMAND_MD5SUM="md5sum"
at the end of /etc/nxserver/node.conf fixes the problem.

Oct 25, 2010

When I use my ubuntu computer to watch some movies that are encoded into 5.1 sound I can't hear the voices of the people in the movie. I guess that is because the voices are put on the front speaker and I have connected the computer to an stereo-amplifier.

I mainly use XBMC and have noticed the problem there but I have also tried VLC and noticed the same problem there. In xbmc I checked the box "Downmix multichannel audio to stereo" but it doesn't work.

I use a standard ubuntu 10.04 64-bit install that was upgraded from a 9.10 install.
