In the wireless network icon on the menu bar, I try to log into my home network and it won't let me connect.
According to the website, it is a WEP Passcode.
All I see is WEP 128-Bit and WEP 128-bit Hex and ASCII
I want to give my users option of logging to the system. They should have posibillity for choosing option betweend logging to the system with their default password or one-time password OTPW. I installed OTPW in my Debian. Here is my /etc/pam.d/sshd file:

I think that I have remove something while I was reinstalling some wireless stuff using synaptic. When I launch the computer I get the dual booting but only with memory test and windows. I have the ubuntu installation cd. What can I do to get back the dual booting with the facility to launch ubuntu.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just got a new Compaq/HP netbook with Windows 7, and I have downloaded Ubuntu 10.10 (using my main Ubuntu system) and put it on a USB stick to load it "alongside" Windows.
At install phase on the new machine there is no option shown to add Ubuntu alongside Windows; only two options are shown, to erase the disk entirely and load Ubuntu, or the advanced option to select the disk partitioning manually.
I don't want to do either of these!
What happened to the third option, share the disk between operating systems?
I have used Linux for years, and don't want Windows, but it is safer to be able to boot up Windows for some things (testing ADSL line for Orange France, for instance).
I have a standard F15 installation with Gnome 3 from the live CD. I got bored and decided to play with a few other WMs and DEs. I installed KDE-base, but KDE does not appear as an option at login. Is there something else I need to install? XFCE, Openbox, and Classic Gnome with Compiz all appear in the menu. KDE does not.

View 1 Replies View Relateda Toshiba L650 laptop, and installed F13 x86-64 on a disk partition using install DVD. The wired ethernet on this is Atheros AR8152, and the Wireless is Broadcomm 4313. Both these devices are not supported by default. So, as per instructions on the Linux Wireless site, and some guidance on this forum, have downloaded the Broadcomm driver tar on another machine, copied it onto the Toshiba laptop using a USB device, and then extracted, and ran the b43-fwcutter. The subdirectory /lib/firmware/b43 is created and has approx 3 dozen files. However, the Broadcomm driver is not showing up as an option in the Network Manager (system-config-network) or in the lsmod command output. I tried to manually add it by doing modprobe b43 command - it then begins to appear in the lsmod, but the option to add the Broadcomm wireless driver during a "New wireless Hardware" is not appearing still. I think, at an abstract level, I need to somehow "tell" the system to add the Broadcomm driver - am just not sure how to do so. On the other hand, the Atheros AR8152 has no driver as of now, so the wired Ethernet is also not connecting. how I can download all the required files on a different machine, and then install it on the Toshiba laptop?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI just installed 10.04 on my Alienware. If I plug my headphones in it does not mute my laptop speakers. I have lurked the forums read a few suggestions that involve modifying the Alsa-base.conf file but when I try and modify me it doesn't give me the option to save. I'm assuming because I'm not root but shouldn't it give me the option to sign in with my password to allow modification?
I've installed alsa and tried clicking the headphones button and it just mutes everything. If I unmute the headphones click disappears there is no sliders for the headphone option. I have a HDA Intel : Realtek ALC889A.
I've just did a fresh install of Xubuntu 9.10 x86 in a 4 gig pendrive.Just one ext4 partition for / and /home and a swap partition. Only one user created during installation.Everything's fine so far except for two things:-If I launch synaptic from the start menu, it asks for my password which I type in or even copy-paste to be sure.Strangely it always comes back saying incorrect password. If I open a terminal and call "sudo synaptic" and type in my password when prompted, the application shows up fine. Again if I do the same via the Run dialog (alt+F2), that is "sudo synaptic", nothing comes up. If I just type "synaptic", a pop up says that as a user I won't be able to install anything and blah-blah, and the application displays properly

I'd like to manually mount my nfs share mount -t nfs ipaddress:/nfsshare /mnt/nfsfolder but would like to include a userid and password option via command (not via fstab), since the nfs share has different credentials than the server where I'm mounting to. - I am asked twice for "enter password for keyring 'default' to unlock" whereas before I was always just asked once.
- The connection seems to be established, with the icon showing good reception and the tooltip reads "Wireless network connection 'mywifi' active: mywifi (100%)
BUT I can not connect to any website or ping the machines of my network, even by IP address. All of the other computers around (Mac, Windows) can use the Wireless as usual. My Wireless is WPA-PSK TKIP hidden SSID. My Ubuntu is 10.10 Maverick.

I was using windows xp service pack ii. It was nice and easy installing my modem on xp either via usb or ethernet. Both ways it was easy as i have both the drivers with me.Only and main problem was fighting viruses. I tried many free downloadable anti-virus software to protect my maching. Initially they were fine. But after few months they stopped taking regular updates and became non-functional. I also tried symantec corporate v.10. But it has its drawbacks also. Recently i saw an article in the newspaper about ubuntu which is a free open source operating system. And most important to me it is virus free.But here is a problem also. View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to connect a projector to my laptop (already running) and hit the fn+f7 (the designated button for switching screen), nothing happens. I see "no source found" on projector screen and my laptop screen works perfectly. Now if I restart the laptop with the projector connected, I see all the intial booting messages on the projector screen (not on my laptop), then the gnome login screen appears on both the projector screen and laptop (when the login screen appears on laptop it looks like it has lower resolution than my usual laptop resolution). But immediately after I log in, my laptop screen goes blank, and projector screen becomes the only active screen.
If I restart without the projector, again all normal operation on laptop screen is restored.
I feel like I am missing some very silly options. Any help is appreciated.

when I go to download 11.3 I am presented with the installation medium for a DVD installation with a button that says download DVD. Should there be an option to download an ISO option for a CD installation on this page along with the DVD version? Some of our older machines can only read CD's with a max size of 500+ megs.
