Ubuntu :: Violet Freezed Screen On U10.04 / Sort It?
May 22, 2010
I'm brand new to Ubuntu. I'm normally running w7, but since i had an unformatted partition spare i figured i should install Ubuntu to it (i've installed ubuntu once before, but i never really used it).
Problem is i can't even start the live OS or installation. As soon as i get past the boot-screen the whole screen turns violet, flickering.
I've noticed in many versions of Fedora is that the blue colors don't seem so right. They appear more like violet in comparison to the Nvidia proprietary driver.I've tried playing with the new color profiles in F13 but none of them fixed this particular problem
I noticed that in Ubuntu, the black color is not completely black. It has a violet teint, both in the startup screen showing the Ubuntu dots loading and in the terminal.
Does anyone know why this is so, and how to change it to completely black?
Hi All, I don't know why but my Kubuntu system gets freeze after some period of usage. I believe it is random because I don't see any fixed time period or any software. But my knowledge is yet limited in Ubuntu, so what are the places I can check if it has any h/w or s/w issues ??
Just to let you guys know, Originally I had only Ubuntu installed. But I installed Kubuntu just few days ago along with Ubuntu using, sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop
whenever i go to videos and click on a video, namoroka just freezes or hangs (it will become a little dark grayish in color). i will wait for some time for it to become normal but, no matter how long i wait, it is just like that. what is wrong with namoroka?
It is a famous chair manufacture, which produce the famous line "Aeron Chairs". When you are on that web page, if you move your mouth to the "product" tag near the top of the page and click on "seating", you will see all their fancy chairs. Then after I click on the first model, I realize my entire ubuntu (10.04) was hung.
The month can still move, but sluggish and everything else lost responses, including keyboard and gnome panel and etc. And the only thing I can do is a hard reboot. And this problem is reproducible.
I can't find any error message from .xsession-errors, or dmesg, or syslog, or user.log or any log.
i just installed ubuntu netbook in my hp mini and everything is ok, wireless wasnt working but a quick search in this forum solved the problem. But now if i'm connected wired and disconnect the wire (to see if the wireless connects automaticly) the computer freeze, is there any solution for this? And if i am connected wireless and disconnect and then plug in the cable the computer just doesnt recognized it stay offline, is there any icon i should click or something, so the pc could know that i wanna go wired?
i'm installing debian using the netinstall option, the installation is freezed in the step: "retrieving file 811 of 811" like a 40 minutes ago it doesn't go on, so my question is:is there a command to know what is happen?, is there a command to know if the installation has some errors message?
sometimes my n/w card freezes(not frequently) for 2-3 days and works again there after automatically. I am using fedora 14. what may be the problem...is it a hardware conflict or unsupporting driver,How can i fix it without waiting for more 3 days
So yesterday I had plugged my laptop into one of the tv's at work using HDMI, it worked great but no matter where I played in the setting's I could not figure a way to play the movie and be able to close my laptop lid with out it going into a sleep mode. I tried it in the power management but could not get it to work.
I was upgrading manually my ALSA to the latest version -1.0.23-, so after reboot I got several errors related to ALSA telling me that NO SOUND CARDS Found. so the system is freezed when tries to connect to the network but after that, the system is stopped, nothing else happens, I tried to Ctrl+C and reboot as "single user mode" and still nothing, when I rebooted I can see a message that says: "busy trying to mount /" .So my questions are:
1. is there a way to log into the system? 2. is there a way to deactivate this driver on startup? 3. when I can login, how can I remove the failed alsa driver?
if this helps, I have another linux distro running in the same HDD, so maybe I can do something for debian for that distro
Everything went fine this morning on the Install. Then the box said there were 121 updates. I click YES to update. After an hr updates had finished, and reboot was necessary. Only a black screen came up. I have 2 lights on my keyboard blinking, no hard drive activity light. Waited several minutes, nothing. So I did a reboot back into my WinXP. Any suggestions?
When I put my laptop to sleep (clamshell close) it goes to sleep and is a happy laptop.
When I open the laptop, I can hear the thing going and waking up. However the screen stays off. Brightness keys do nothing. (however they did nothing in the first place as I'm using the NVIDIA driver). I have to do a hard reset to fix things.
The strange thing about this is Sleeping / Waking up has never been an issue till about today.
I did an upgrade and now after grub starts I get nothing but a blank screen. I should have left the well working alone. Any suggestions on what to do? I have no terminal, nothing any longer.
Ok, so here's the deal. A few minutes ago, I was connected to my remote machine running Ubuntu 10.10. I changed the resolution of the screen while connected with VNC, but now I can't connect to the remote machine.
I was upgrading manually my ALSA to the latest version -1.0.23-, so after reboot I got several errors related to ALSA telling me that NO SOUND CARDS Found then the kernel activate the ACPI, the mysql and CUPS services and finally tries to connect to the network but after that the system is freezed, nothing else happens, I tried to Ctrl+C and reboot as "single user mode" and still nothing. so my questions are:
1. is there a way to log into the system? 2. is there a way to deactivate this driver on startup? 3. when I can login, how can I remove the failed alsa driver?
I have another linux distro running in the same HDD, so maybe I can do something for debian for that distro.
I want to install this drivers but it dones't want to show screen after installing them what can i do solve this problem other then uninstalling them in recovery mode the point is to fix the problem not just to go back to ubuntu without driver.
my card is hd3650 512mb ddr 2 shappire agp card with crt screen
The only thing I remember being updated is xserver, but I know there were other packages updated.
After the splash screen, a text login is shown. If I do nothing, it goes right to a black screen, but first there are weird red pixels randomly strewn about the screen. If I quickly login via the text screen, it then goes to the same black screen. Either way, there are the weird red pixels and a few flashes of the screen before going black.
This happens 100% of the time.
I have tried: booting with recovery mode and selecting repair packages (no packages are broken, missing, etc.) booting with recovery mode and selecting startx with failsafe (same black screen) booting with older kernels (same thing)
When I close my laptop and open it the screen become grey and blotchy with almost an argyle pattern. This has only started happening after I configured the usb ports to work in my VM. My startup screen also says something about a usb problem, and S for skip and M to manually fix it but I have had no problems with my usb. Oh except for my computer won't start
I've been using fedora now for a while without major problems - since yesterday. Last night i rebooted my computer and to my surprise, this is what happened: The Fedora screen takes a little bit longer to load and after that, instead of showing the login screen, i get a black screen with a prompt blinking. I can log in on text mode pressing alt+f2 alright. Tried "startx", but that did nothing for me, i only get a backtrack list and a "fatal server error: Caught signal 11 (Segmentation fault). Server aborting. There's also something about checking the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" but when i try to open it i get a Permission denied message.
I had VNC working with accounts that were logged in. Then I went thru the procedure for vnc-itsp-config (step 5 of the how-to-centos5 vnc server wiki) so that I could log in remotely to an account that was not already logged in.
All went well until....I tried to log in and all I get is this X11 window with a X cursor and a black screen.
I have restarted the vncserver service but I suspect it is a x11 issue (just a guess).
I have a Acer Aspire D250 the new ones that comes with the win 7 starter kit.
When I try to install or just even try to load from the live CD from Ubuntu 9.10 or Ubuntu 9.10 remix the logo come up and screen goes black. I'm using a 4gig Sanddisk cruzer and I formated to fat32.
Is it an option that I need to change into the bios? do you think I really need to use a external DVD to install it?
I tried to find a solution on google but can't find anything
I have an Acer Aspire One AOA110 that came with Windows XP.
I created a usb flash drive install for Ubuntu 10.10 netbook edition and went through the install process (wiped disk clean, not a dual boot with WINXP).
Before install, I was able to run Ubunut from the usb key with no problems.
At the end of the install, it told me I needed to restart, so I clicked the "restart" button and the removed the usb drive. Nothing happened and it never restarted and just completley hung for about 20 minutes. I manually shut down the computer by holding the power for 10 seconds and then rebooted the machine. Now all I get after the "acer bios" screen is a black screen with a blinking cursor. If I press any buttons, the computer beeps at me.
I m newbie in Linux. i am using fedora 13, kernel release: Linux 2.6.33.6-147.fc13.x86_64 and my graphics card is nvidia g-force 8400 GS. nvidia driver version is 195.36.31.
now my problem is when i run any video file in any media player, my system just freezes...and only way to get rid that is system reset !!! and it get freezed randomly, sometimes system works fine without halting!! i update my kmod-nvidia and kernel but the problem has not been solved!!
I have done a fresh install of Ubuntu 11.04 on my oem intel machine. After the installation, the screen resolution is stuck at 800x600.I am unable to select a higher screen resolution.
I had a perfectly well running CentOS 5 system but with an old crappy monitor. I replaced the monitor by a bigger one, i did a monitor detect to make sure that CentOS would recognize the highest possible resolution. Then changed the display rsolution for the current user.
Now when i login as root just a black screen appears with a white mouse pointer and then nothing. I already deleted all the contents in the home directory /root but no improvement.
When i login as a new user X is starting perfectly.
Anyone have a clue what i need to do or delete to get X working again? I can nuke the whole box and do a reinstall but i'd rather not.
I have installed Opensuse 11.4 and the desktop won't start i get an green striped screen, i have tried to run yast but it seems mine NVIDIA isn't correct installed.
I have an NVidia SE6150 Graphic Card and i have tried to configure the startup parameter vga=0x317, i have changed this to vga=0 to get vesa mode but that doesn't work, i have an wide screen monitor that supports 24 bit and 1360x768.
