Hi All,
I don't know why but my Kubuntu system gets freeze after some period of usage. I believe it is random because I don't see any fixed time period or any software. But my knowledge is yet limited in Ubuntu, so what are the places I can check if it has any h/w or s/w issues ??
Just to let you guys know, Originally I had only Ubuntu installed. But I installed Kubuntu just few days ago along with Ubuntu using,
sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop
whenever i go to videos and click on a video, namoroka just freezes or hangs (it will become a little dark grayish in color). i will wait for some time for it to become normal but, no matter how long i wait, it is just like that. what is wrong with namoroka?
I'm brand new to Ubuntu. I'm normally running w7, but since i had an unformatted partition spare i figured i should install Ubuntu to it (i've installed ubuntu once before, but i never really used it).
Problem is i can't even start the live OS or installation. As soon as i get past the boot-screen the whole screen turns violet, flickering.
It is a famous chair manufacture, which produce the famous line "Aeron Chairs". When you are on that web page, if you move your mouth to the "product" tag near the top of the page and click on "seating", you will see all their fancy chairs. Then after I click on the first model, I realize my entire ubuntu (10.04) was hung.
The month can still move, but sluggish and everything else lost responses, including keyboard and gnome panel and etc. And the only thing I can do is a hard reboot. And this problem is reproducible.
I can't find any error message from .xsession-errors, or dmesg, or syslog, or user.log or any log.
i just installed ubuntu netbook in my hp mini and everything is ok, wireless wasnt working but a quick search in this forum solved the problem. But now if i'm connected wired and disconnect the wire (to see if the wireless connects automaticly) the computer freeze, is there any solution for this? And if i am connected wireless and disconnect and then plug in the cable the computer just doesnt recognized it stay offline, is there any icon i should click or something, so the pc could know that i wanna go wired?
i'm installing debian using the netinstall option, the installation is freezed in the step: "retrieving file 811 of 811" like a 40 minutes ago it doesn't go on, so my question is:is there a command to know what is happen?, is there a command to know if the installation has some errors message?
sometimes my n/w card freezes(not frequently) for 2-3 days and works again there after automatically. I am using fedora 14. what may be the problem...is it a hardware conflict or unsupporting driver,How can i fix it without waiting for more 3 days
I was upgrading manually my ALSA to the latest version -1.0.23-, so after reboot I got several errors related to ALSA telling me that NO SOUND CARDS Found. so the system is freezed when tries to connect to the network but after that, the system is stopped, nothing else happens, I tried to Ctrl+C and reboot as "single user mode" and still nothing, when I rebooted I can see a message that says: "busy trying to mount /" .So my questions are:
1. is there a way to log into the system? 2. is there a way to deactivate this driver on startup? 3. when I can login, how can I remove the failed alsa driver?
if this helps, I have another linux distro running in the same HDD, so maybe I can do something for debian for that distro

I have two OS in my system. Windows& and Kubuntu. Both are in separate hard disks. I was using both. In between i have upgraded my system. now when i am giving priority to hard disk containing kubuntu, i can login to kubuntu, but cant get in to windows7. i have upgraded grub but not working. when i am giving priority to hard disk containig windows7 it enters and work properly. but not working in the previous.
Tri-booting. They were installed in the order I listed above. I ran into a few bugs with Kubuntu, so I no longer want to use it. I want to use GParted on a LiveCD to format Kubuntu and expand my Ubuntu home partition to sit on top of Kubuntu's space right now. If I nuke Kubuntu, will Grub still exist with my Ubuntu/XP entries to boot?
I would like to apply KDE on my Kubuntu because the current one blew up. But each time I to sudo get-apt it seems to be fetching from the cloud. Is there a way I can make it to read from my local Kubuntu CD? I have both Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and Kubuntu Live CDs.
I believe the local disk read should be faster to translate than to bite the bytes across thousands of miles over the wire right?
I type my username and password and then press enter in the log in screen, kubuntu will always bring me back to the log in screen.I google my problem but the result is the same
I have put on kubuntu over my Ubuntu installation and from what i had read it just changes the look but now all my users are gone and i cant make a new one and if i put the correct information in the user and password filed it says im wrong when i changed over i couldn't see an options at Ubuntu log in screen so i changed to kubuntu with the terminal is there any way to make a new user, retrieve the old user or change back to Gnome (vanilla Ubuntu)
i have kubuntu and ubuntu on my laptop but i am giving that one away and want to get rid of kubuntu and just have ubuntu on the laptop. i got kubuntu by using the terminal. how can i get rid of kubuntu. i have ubbuntu on a memory stick if i have to start all over i do not mind.
i was wondering if you can have docks on Kubuntu. It would be pretty awesome if i could get it on there. I have tried to install AWN but when i restarted i get Gnome(Ubuntu). It is all fixed but i was just wondering if i could get a dock that wont do that.
I am trying to use aMule, under 64 bit Kubuntu on KK. I get a low ID. When I try the connectivity test it fails. I am advised to: 'Make sure your firewall or router is allowing/forwarding this TCP service port..I don't have any doubts about my router, since eMule works fine under Windows on my network. So I am persuaded to examine the firewall on my KK installation - except that I cannnot find it.
In addition, how do I find the definition for my network card to be sure it is set to the correct IP address to match my router settings?
I changed from Ubuntu to Kubuntu by installing KDE. I'm not sure if I have Ubuntu or Kubuntu now because at login I can choose between both desktops.Anyway, when using Gnome, about once a week it asked for upgrades, and then did this all in the background.
Now with KDE, this doesn't work anymore. At some point there came a screen that was similar to that of Gnome, except if I pressed ok to update and entered my password, it crashed and brought up the KDE crash handler.
I'm running ubuntu 9.10 64 bit on an amd x64 computer. I have a cd for kubuntu 9.04 32 bit that I want to try. When I reboot and the "boot from CD/DVD:" comes up I hit the enter key (sometimes many times) but it won't load the kubuntu.
currently using a CompaQ Altec Lansing laptop, which came with Windows 7 Pre-installed. It is the 64 bit version. The same day I got it I got Ubuntu on it as well, also in 64 bit. I have had no problems with either of them. What I would like to do, is install Kubuntu 10.04 64 bit along side Windows 7 and Ubuntu. Is it possible? Or would i be stuck having to make a Wubi?
How do I set the screensaver in kubuntu 10.10? I've searched the web for help, and everywhere says it's under "desktop" in start | settings, but I can't see an entry for "desktop", only for "desktop settings" which seems to be something completely different (though fun). Pretty much a Linux newbie
Does any have a link to a guide for switching from Ubuntu to Kubuntu? That does not involve a full reinstallation and maybe a easy way of switching between the two no the fly?
Kubuntu and win 7 have their own separate hard drives. The problem showed up when I installed the new Kubuntu 11.04 (disconnected win7 hard drive in hope that it wouldn't affect the win boot loader) . As of now, it's just an annoyance since I can just hit f12 quickly during startup and decide which one I want to boot. I tried doing what other tutorial suggest, but I am a little nervous about their instruction in reference to what number I should jot down since situation may be a little different.
Basically, I want Grub or whatever good working boot-loader to be installed (I heard a rumor that a click-able one was in the making) on my Kubuntu hard drive, and avoid affecting my win 7 hard drive (they research now with the updates to make sure you got their boot-loader running *sigh).
Here is some data I collected from partition editor, hopefully this will assist somebody in understanding my problem better:
ATA ST (where linux is installed) /dev/sda1; type: ext4; size: 461.76 GiB; Used: 20.77 GiB /dev/sda2 type: extended; size: 4.00 GIB; Used: 4.00 GiB /dev/s...; type: linuxswap; size: 4.00GiB; Used: ---; ATA WDC (Win 7 is installed) /dev/sdb1; type: ntfs; size: 596.17 GiB; Used: 116.61 GiB
I just installed Kubuntu 11.04 on my netbook, and it is acting up more than what Windows 7 Starter would!Every time I enable the visual effects, things start to run so slow that it automatically disables them again, and every time I go to change the desktop background, either the desktop goes blank or the x server crashes completely and restarts.Kubuntu 10.10 and Ubuntu 11.04 work just fine, but I like the driver support and features that Kubuntu 11.04 has.
I installed Kubuntu 10.4 (which runs great) a couple days ago but when I shut down it goes to the Kubutu shutdown screen and freezes. I still need to run updates which may fix the issue if not any suggestions.
