Ubuntu :: Unity's Super-D Fail With Chromium?
Apr 28, 2011I've taken a fancy to Unity's Super-D keyboard shortcut, but it doesn't work in Chromium browser. (minimize to desktop)
View 3 RepliesI've taken a fancy to Unity's Super-D keyboard shortcut, but it doesn't work in Chromium browser. (minimize to desktop)
View 3 RepliesI often use the option in Chromium to create 'application shortcuts'. These are instances of Chromium that make a website look more like an app by not including most of Chromium's toolbars. I use it for gmail and google docs and spreadsheets and calendar. In 11.04 I have set up Desktop launchers and copied them across to the Launcher (what an odd way to add something to the launcher, why no right-click 'add launcher' option?)
The problem is that the launcher thinks all these apps are chromium (which they are really, but I would like them to be seen as separate apps). If I minimize my gmail window, a little triangle appears next to the chromium icon, not the gmail icon. To get the window back, I have to click on the Chromium icon. Clicking on the gmail icon launches a new instance of it (also tied to the Chromium icon).
I've just noticed this morning that the number shortcuts that normally appear when holding the super key to show the Unity launcher are not there. The s, a and f shortcuts remain however. Also, just pushing the numbers that should be there doesn't do anything.
I've just upgraded from Maverick to Natty and things were mostly working fine until this. I'm not sure what changes have happened between now and then and I don't remember any major changes in that period.
I just tried to take a screenshot and opened GIMP to save it and I checked again and they have reappeared. So, I guess the new question is why did this happen? How can I solve this problem if it happens in the future? Should I mark this as solved? I don't really understand what happened either way.
I used Google Chrome as my default browser on 10.10, and I liked seeing it as part of the Software Center this time around on Unity. (Except it's listed as Chromium; what's the difference!?!) Anyway, I'll get crashes with the browser pretty consistently. Has anyone else had problems with Chromium crashing on start up? (The problem may have arisen when I started syncing my bookmarks, as I do with all of my computers.)
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have just installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.10. I am trying to work out how to add Chromium to the Unity Sidebar. With other applications, I can launch them, right-click the application icon in the sidebar and select "Keep in Launcher", however Google Chromium doesn't appear to have this option. Does anyone know how this can be achieved?

View 6 Replies View Relatedhow to use the <Super>ButtonX (<Super>Button1 for example for the enabled Compiz Screenshot plugin)? I also notice there is configurable buttons 1 throught 20 under the various options. At first I thought the ButtonX was a mouse button. Maybe it is with some anticipation of there being eventually being a possible 20 buttons on the mouse. I know the Super key is the Key with the Windows logo on it. But I don't know what to do to get the needed Super Key / Button combination. After having enabled Compiz's Screenshot plugin by its default, I don't get an image after hitting any of the Super key and mouse button combinations. I'm running Ubuntu 11.04.
View 2 Replies View Relatedif i run chromium with --enable-gpu-rendering flag chromium's display looks like it's shattered into thousands of pieces and I can't understand a thing. This doesn't happens if I have a previous instance of chromium opened in the usual way, without any flag. In this case if I open another chromium window with the --enable-gpu-rendering flag it's display looks ok, but I can't figure out what's the problem and how could this be fixed if there's solution for it of course.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI made a shortcut with chromium browser to listen.grooveshark.com. This is great as it's almost like the grooveshark VIP desktop application like this. However AWN dock groups it with other chromium windows like this:Kuvakaappaus.jpg
Is it possible to force AWN to group this specific chromium window under the Grooveshark launcher that I have in the dock? Turning off grouping does not solve this either, as it just shows grooveshark as another chromium window.
1. I didn't like the icon theme and changed it to Ubuntu Mono Light. But is there a way to get the Min/Max/Close buttons to how they are in Radiance when maximized, or is that dependant on something else?
2. Is there a way to disable the Unity dock, but not the Unity feature where the Min/Max/Close go into the command bar?
Just moved to Ubuntu 11.04 with unity and only have one problem...For most of my desktop needs I prefer to have the Unity Launcher up all the time (fullscreen apps don't cover it), and have set this option with ccsm.
However, when I watch mythtv, it is also under the launcher (and the top panel as well). How can I force mythtv to cover the launcher?
What I really need is a keyboard shortcut to hide the launcher, but the only shortcut is for "show launcher". (I guess the devs assumed everyone would want it hidden by default).
This, by the way is not my usual way for viewing mythtv. I have a projector attached to the desktop PC and it doesn't get a Unity Launcher by default (in Twinview), so no probs. However, occasionally I want to watch something on my computer screen, and that is when this issue arises.
Add some pictures inside your Pictures home folder (~/Pictures). Summon Gnome-DO by hitting [Super]and[Space] Type "slideshow", hit [TAB] and select the 'Pictures' folder or another user-defined folder where pictures are stored and finally hit [ENTER] I've Googled the topic (super key) but all I've found is "what," not "where."

View 2 Replies View RelatedRecently I installed Ubuntu using WUBI. During installation it asked for a user name and password which I filled in. That user name and password are the same that I now use to log into ubuntu. But now I am unable to log into super user using the terminal. When I try to log in to the super user account it says that the password is wrong. During the whole installation process only once did wubi ask me to enter password and I am using the same password. My windows user name and password are the same as what I entered during installation.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been working on this for a couple days, but I cannot seem to find a solution either on my own or through trusty Google. For whatever reason, I cannot get the Super key assigned to the Left Win as I have had it in the past. There does not seem to be an option to do that in the Keyboard layout thingy.

Into the details:
The problem is, i go into a website and it seems to renderize by chunks, ie i enter my favorite PC hardware forum and it is like this when loading: Processors...1sec....Vid cards....1sec...Memory...and on and on until the bottom of the page is reached. The normal behavior is: Click...forum loaded ,as on windows.
By default i use my wireless conection, but also tried wired one to no avail. Also tried it from the live cd and i have the same problem. Some sitess like google, gmail and ..... load normally(instantly). I've tried disabling ipv6 as adviced in several parts and had no results. I used the default firefox 3.6.6, firefox 3.6.7 and chrome with the same results.
This is the info for my wireless adapter just in case:

I've just upgraded to 11.04 and I can't get Super Key working in Compiz, which should be binded to Left Win. It shows up as Multi_key when I enter a key combination. However, if I bind Caps Lock to Super Key it works when entering a key combination. I'm also using a Logitech MK520 keyboard.

Is there a way to open Computer with super key + E?
I'm just used to opening My Computer with Boss key + E in Windows. Oh, and I'm on Natty.
Am trying to build a main frame computer, in order to learn more about them.
View 9 Replies View RelatedPredefinations: From here on in, I will refer to the "Windows Key" on the keyboard as the "Super Key" (Linux terminology)
Consider a user's experience in Windows:
* UseCaseA: Accessing the start menu --> "Super Key" open the menu.
* UseCaseB: Open the "run dialogue" --> "Super Key" + R
* UseCaseC: Open win explorer --> "Super Key" + E
* etc.
In GNOME/ubuntu however, apparently there is this odd limitation in that the "Super Key" cannot be both a standalone key, and a modifier key. Is it still the case? Currently running Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10. Apparently in KDE this works, and in Windows it's worked since Windows95. How can we achieve this functionality in Ubuntu/gnome?
i gave the permission (chmod 647) to etc folder without thinking much. and now i cant log as root and cant do anything.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI dismayed to find that Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.10 no longer allows a user to assign the Super key (Windows key/Mod4 key) to keyboard shortcuts.
There seem to have been a number of unfavourable changes to UNR 10.10, but this is the worst. Super key functioning is essential for launching applications for many users.
I am no longer able to use UNR and I must uninstall it today. I think this is a shame, because I have always wanted to support it.
I have been trying to run the program unrevoked so that I can flash and root my phone. I want to do this on Linux, but this requires me to run the program as root and I don't know how to do this. I looked it up online and it told me to simply type sudo reflash or gksudo reflash and I tried both, sudo says it can't find the program and gksudo does something then nothing appears to happen.
