Ubuntu Installation :: Make A Live-USB Containing Among Others Both Desktop I386 And Desktop AMD64
May 1, 2010I want to make a live-USB containing among others both Ubuntu desktop i386 and Ubuntu desktop AMD64. How do I go about this? I tried using unetbootin, first adding i386 and then amd64, but that failed. My computer with an athlon II did manage to boot, and showed it had booted into the 64-bit version (ram shown was 3.9 GB, i386 goes to about 2.7 I think), my wife's computer with a pentium 4 did not manage to boot, got to a black screen. I think this is because casper has issues, being overwritten (I'd seen something to that effect somewhere), and thus only the latest version added being booted (in this case amd 64).
I'm under the impression that the startup disc creator included won't help, nor won't the multicd.sh script, so how do I circumvent the issues?

Apr 26, 2010I downloaded the ubuntu-10.04-rc-desktop-i386.iso file and burned it to a CD - i.e. what I thought would be a standard Ubuntu Live CD experience. Imagine my surprise when:On a black screen, there was a new (small) window on the left and a (small) meaningless stick figure on the right at the bottom of the screen, and after a while I got the error window entitled:
Installation failed
The installer encountered an unrecoverable error.
A desk top session will now be run so that you may
investigate the problem or try installing again.
Since when is installation (with no user interaction) a default when using a (Live)CD ISO image of any Ubuntu RC or otherwise?My only purpose was to boot up into the Live CD environment - but that was not only not presented as an option (normally there is a 30 second countdown) and the usual default is to boot up into the Live CD environment.This was not the case with the RC! Why not?

Apr 9, 2010Intel wifi link 5100 not found on sony vaio backtrack 4 vmware I use vmware to load backtrack I have a sony vaio with 5100 AGN wifi card installed in it. I had tried anything to make my wifi work but always show no interface no wireless. I googled it for help for weeks and all i get was download the iwlwifi things and i already installed in it. i even tried many other thing

and everytime i type ifconfig it just show eth and lo and no wlan0 in it everytime i type airmon-ng there are no chipset interface and ...........thing (forgot) I could find my wireless card name when i type ilg... something i forgot The problem is,i think my linux doesn't reconize the card even i have installed the driver Anything that i can do to make my linux reconize wifi link 5100 agn wireless card?

Jan 8, 2010im trying to install ubuntu 9.10 desktop i386 version, but i simply cant do it! I have tried for hours now. I boot my computer, the cd-room boots, i choose language from the list and press install ubuntu, after that i see the ubuntu logo blinking and in few minutes it gets black and shows "Input Not Supported" and its just bumping around the screen! I had a feeling that maybe my monitor (ASUS) does not support ubuntu so i tried with a very old syncmaster monitor, but similar message appeared! What could be the problem?

When I execute the program I need to use "Sudo" in order to run in. So my questions is how would I add a symbolic link the desktop with the approipiate permission to run the executable. Apr 26, 2010I have a problem where I'm using Ubuntu linux to mount a Windows Vista machine's USB drive and access it on the web using Apache. I did have the USB drive plugged into the Linux machine directly and that was working via the web. FollowSymLinks is on in httpd.conf

The mount works and I can see the files (see above) from my regular linux user account. If I make a test file in /mnt and soft link to that, I can see it on the web. So it's just the mount to the vista machine that seems to be a problem. It's supposed to be a simple read-only mount and the apache login should (I think) be able to see the same generic root access permissions.

The credentials have a login and password that matches a special read-only account on Vista. I can see the files on the system from Linux, but not via the web. Ubuntu :: KDE Desktop Distro / Kernel Could Not Be Found?
Jan 30, 2010Recently I've been looking to try out a KDE desktop distro on my msi wind u100. Reading that Manriva and Opensuse are good distro that are 'KDE centered', I've been wanting to try them out. I dl'ed the iso files and used unetbootin and mandriva seed to install a 4GB usb drive.
On boot though, the linux kernel could not be found. I read through other complaints about this problem and it turns out that ubuntu's use of a old syslinux is the cuase.
Could someone write me a command line code that updates ubuntu 9.04 to the newest version if possible(safe to do so without killing m install)?
And can someone file a bug report asking for lucid lynx to have the newest version?

I have tried using symlinks, but they become dead when I move the directory they point to. I have tried hard links, but I haven't found any Linux file system that would support hard linked directories. How can I achieve that a complex structure of directories (currently with symlinks for directories and hard links for files) keep symlinks live when directories are moved?

Nov 7, 2010I don't know how, but on my 64 bit machine I installed this 32 bit deb file: kobo-desktop.deb. I did that while using Ubuntu 10.04. Now I've updated to 10.10, and I can't uninstall it.
