Feb 9, 2011

I have lived with this for months and it isn't a big deal, but my Thunderbird 3.1.7 shows 2 Outboxes-Local Folders. Right now I have my Inbox divided into Local Folders and *****@Sympatico.ca. I would like to put everything under Local folders but I am unsure if I should do this when there are 2 Outboxes

Ubuntu :: Transfer Local Folders For Thunderbird?

Sep 11, 2010

I have transferred many emails from my hotmail account to a local folder system using Thunderbird, only to realize that I really want them in another machine. (The first time I put them into a VM). So I installed thunderbird again, and copied the whole Mail folder from the first install into the default folder of the second. Now the new thunderbird sees the folders, but will not display their contents; I have checked that the permissions are the same in the two installs. Both installs will happily download new emails from my hotmail account, but I don't really know how to transfer BACK everything in thunderbird(1) to hotmail so that I could bring it back to thunderbird(2).

Ubuntu :: Nautilus Only Shows Folders?

Feb 24, 2010

often we need to add attachments to things, like adding a picture to a gmail when composing or to add a picture to a document. When I try to do this, nautilus shows only folders. It shows all the folders I would expect to see but none of these folders actually contain documents. If I navigate using places and open folders of course all my files are there, I just cant see them when trying to insert a file. Why might that be? Does anyone know?

I notice the "select which types of file to show" pulldown is empty - whats happened?

Slackware :: Thunderbird Mail Folders

Apr 6, 2010

I store all my personal files inclduing mail folders on my external usb drive which allows me to experiment with different distros freely. On each new install i point the mail settings to my mozilla folder. But Slackware 13 is throwing a lot of challenges my way. I am currently finding that I cannot copy recently arrived mail into my designated folders. The message says something about I am running out of disk space when in fact I have plenty of space.

I initially thought it might have something to do with file permissions. But definitely not in this case. The folder is owned by myself and has full permissions chmod 775.I am currently using windows which gives access to all my mail folders.

Ubuntu :: Thunderbird 3 Smart Folders Not Saving Changes / Possible Workaround

Jan 7, 2010

I recently upgraded to Thunderbird 3 using the ubuntuzilla script. One of the great new feature is the so called 'Smart folders' which lets you view all of your mail from different accounts in one list. Since I have set up automatic rules to sort mails from different people and mailing lists in different sub-folders I wanted to include these in the list too. However very time I tried to get Thunderbird to include sub-folders from my different accounts, the settings would reset itself - but now I think I might have found a fix:In your Thunderbird folder find the folder called 'smart mailboxes'.Right-click the file 'Inbox.msf' and select 'Properties' (I think it's called this i'm on a Danish system)Go to the 'Rights' section (again this is what I think it's called) Set your own rights to 'read' only, exit Open Thunderbird Right-click the Smart folders Inbox and select 'Properties'.Choose the folders you want to include, remember to check 'Match all messages'

Ubuntu :: Sync Local Folders - Not Unison Or Rsync?

Apr 14, 2011

I need a program to run on Ubuntu that must be easily set up to do a series of different cloning operations at specific times between the USB drives on a single Ubunu pc, depending on the day of the week." So on Monday folder B is forced to match folder A, Tuesday C forced to equal D ... and on Sunday a whole bunch of these clonings happen. This must all run unattended (at 2am) and be robust with no "what do you want to do next messages" or having the whole thing give up if there is a problem with one file. Though I do need a log of success or failure. Windows programs that do this stuff are FolderClone and GoodSync. I looked at Unison and Rsync and one or two others, but none appeared set up to do what I need, or to be excessively complex / general. I don't need something that can sync two copies, or over internet ....

Ubuntu Servers :: Apache: Working Folders For Local User

Sep 23, 2010

I want to setup a folder (several really) for websites that use PHP.

I am running Linux Ubuntu with PHP, APACHE installed.

The Apache server works in Firefox as 127.0.1.1 no problem.

The default directory is (DocumentRoot) /var/www This is stored in a file called /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default

PHP executes no problem, if it is in the default directory (/var/www).

However, I'd like to activate PHP in a folder on another hard-drive (also).

In that folder I'd like to store several websites, all which will use PHP and MYSQL.

The problem is, my boot drive where /var/www currently is located has only 2 gig of space (21 gig for operating system, which seems high).

PHP files in the other hard drive do not execute, even under APACHE server.

How can I safely change the PHP enabled folder? How can I add more folders, without erasing the current one?

I am going to upgrade to 11.4 in another week and want to make sure that I understand backup and restore procedures for K Mail...in case something untoward happens during the upgrade to 11.4.

Programming :: Detecting Newly Created Folders / Files On Local File System?

Apr 16, 2010

Using C++, I want to process sub-folders on my home folder sequentially each with a special naming format and containing some binary files in it:

Code:
1/
2/
3/
4/
5/
6/
...

Give above folders, I will process files in 1/ at first, 2/ at second, 3/ at third, and so on.

For some n/ folder, if I realize that n/ actually does not exist in local file system, I do not want to wait for it. Hence I will keep processing (n+1)/ folder, and so on.

However, when processing some (n+m)/ folder, previously not processed n/ folder may have been created on local file system. In this case, I do not want to miss processing it, but somehow detect its creation and process it. After processing n/ folder, I want to continue from (n+m+1)/.

Ubuntu One :: Shows One "LOCAL MACHINE" Entry Which Doesn't Go Away

Mar 31, 2010

However, in the dialog which shows the connected computers to the account, I found that there are a lot of old computers (previously linked from my home computer, office computer, Virtual Box installations. Hence, I wanted to delete all these computer links and only add my home computer and office computer afresh. Hence I deleted all the computer links and in the end, it shows one "LOCAL MACHINE" entry which does not go away. Now, from my office computer (again Lucid Beta1)

I am able to access the Ubuntu One account and registered my office computer. But in my home computer I am unable to access Ubuntu One. I tried un-installing and then re-installing the Ubuntu One, but still does not work, and stubbornly displays only one entry as "LOCAL MACHINE" and I cannot figure out anyway how to add my home computer to Ubuntu One and access the same Is there some way to completely uninstall Ubuntu One (along with all settings) and then re-install?

Ubuntu :: Can't Import Address Book From Thunderbird To Thunderbird

Thanks to Lucid not working properly on i845, i855 and other 8xx chips, had to re-install Karmic on my mum's computer.I saved all the data from her old install and I ve managed to get all her old emails from thunderbird, but I cant import her address book.In Thunderbird/tools/import/addressbooks it only allows importing of LDIF, .tab, .csv and .txt files, but I cant find any of these files in any of the Thunderbird, .Thunderbird, Mozilla-Thunderbird or Mozilla folders in Home folder or anywhere, all I can find is "abook.mab" which IS supposed to be her address book, but when I try and import it the entries are blank and/or indecipherable (prob cos not a compatible file type).

Its one of those "simple" things to do, thats taken hours and hours of time, but that I cant actually find out how to do.

Software :: Importing Thunderbird Settings From Portable Apps Thunderbird

Sep 13, 2010

I had a portable apps version of Thunderbird (windows) that runs off a thumb drive and wanted to take the settings and transfer them to my Thunderbird that's on my Linux computer.

This is what I did:

First, I installed thunderbird on my Ubuntu 10.04 Linux box and opened it, and closed it (so that it would create the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder in the user account).

Then, I renamed the linux /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder to .thunderbird_ORIGINAL

Then, I created a new /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder

Then, I took the windows e:ThunderbirdPortableDataprofile folder and copied it to the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder.

Then, I looked into the /home/<username>/.thunderbird_ORIGINAL folder and wrote down the name of the folder with the ".default" extension.

Then, I renamed the profile folder (that came from the windows e:ThunderbirdPortableData folder) "<name-I-wrote-down>.default".

And then, I copied the profiles.ini folder from /home/<username>/.thunderbird_ORIGINAL to the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder.

I opened up Thunderbird in Linux and everything seems fine! (I'll definitely be keeping a backup just in case)

My question is: is this fine and dandy, or a recipe for disaster?

When I tried to edit sarah's /home/sarah/.mozilla-thunderbird/profile.ini by inserting: Path=/home/juliusz/.mozilla-thunderbird/xxxxxxx.default after i run Thunderbird for 'sarah' I get message: "Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Thunderbird process, or restart your system." I checked with "ps aux" there is no Thunderbird running in sarah's session. There is no Thunderbird running in juliusz's session when I reloged to juliusz.
