View 3 RepliesI found this thread: [URL] but the info is 1 year old. Has anything changed? I would like the extra pane every time I start nautilus without having to press f3 or view->extra pane.
View 3 Replies View RelatedCan someone please tell me if there is a way to have Nautilus open with the extra pane by default? I use it quite often and would like it to open that way. I have been searching but seem to only find fixes for Gnome on Jaunty and earlier versions.

I have upgraded to nautilus-elementary...What i wanted was the sidebar to show all the places like this in this picture..
but what i got is
the side bar shows details of the folder of file.
how i can restore the side bar as the first picture. in nautilus there was an option above the sidebar to change this..what to do in nautilus elementary.
In Nautilus I cannot drag and drop folders in side pane in tree view mode. Dragging by right click does not work on the right pane. Is there any way to enable such features?

View 1 Replies View RelatedDid you know that while in Nautilus 2.30.1 using Ubuntu 10.04 you can have split-pane by pressing the F3 key. You can copy files from one to the other. Here is a little video howto from LJ. [URL]

View 9 Replies View RelatedCan you "split" a network interface in Ubuntu, similar to how airmon-ng lets you use your wireless card in managed and monitor mode, by making another interface out of the same hardware? I know it'd be slower, but I'd still like to do it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo I've been trying to get my windows C: and D: partitions (mounted to /windows/C and /windows/D respectively) to show along side "Filesystem" and "Home Folder" in tree view on the left panel in Nautilus.
I know I can drag and drop any folder under the Places view mode, but I never use Places and prefer Tree view mode.
I just installed 10.04 on a computer I put together, I noticed the button that allows you to switch back and forth to the 'text entry mode' on the nautilus location bar is missing. Is there a way to get this back? I found you can use CTRL+L or use gconf-editor to switch but I used that button quite a bit and want to find a way to get it back.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed the two-panel Nautilus version to Karmic and it added a "start_with_extra_panel" key to gconf. Now, after an upgrade to Lucid, the key is still there but it has no mapping. So, is there a way to tell Nautilus to always start with two panels in Lucid? Also, how hard is it to replace the current version of Nautilus with the one from ppa:berndth/ppa as I really like that one?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to use the screen command to start a split screen by default.
I know once I am an in `screen`, I can type C-a S to get a split screen. But is there a way to specify this as an argument to the `screen` command so it starts automatically with a split screen?
Nautilus won't start, for example, I click home folder, the bar below display "opening username" for 5 sec and nothing opened. I used another account seems no problem. The problem happened since my last update (and I forgot to close firefox and seems some crash happened). When I open the terminal and click the icon in Gnome, the terminal show
(nautilus:3411): Nautilus-GDU-WARNING **: unable to query info: Operation not supported
Is there a way to automatically have Nautilus start up in a specific folder? I run it out of the desktop not out of terminal.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI keep getting "Starting File Manager" flashing on and off on the bottom tool bar in Ubuntu 10.04. The icons on my desktop keep blinking on and off and I can't access any folders! It happened after saving an SVG file to my desktop in Inkscape. Not sure that's anything to do with it. I rebooted twice and it is continuing to do the same thing.

I have recently disabled nautilus from showing up on my desktop. Now I can't seem to start nautilus. Starting it from gnome-terminal doesn't display anything, and it never shows, and it never terminates. The way I disabled nautilus from showing up on my desktop was by following Xmonad/Using xmonad in Gnome - HaskellWiki

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a HP mini 2133 with Ubuntu 10.04 NBR installed, but because the CMOS battery went flat and the date on the BIOS got reset to 1980, I now get a failure starting the machine (Superblock failure: Last mount time is in the future). I've already googled on this error, and the general advise seems to be "run fschk and let it complete", but my question is...I don't get a grub screen come up when Ubuntu boots, and Contrl/Alt/F* doesn't bring me to any login windows. So how do I interrupt the startup, and get to a login window before I get the mount error.

View 9 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to instruct Ubuntu to start up (GUI) Graphical User Interface mode from (CLI) Command Line Interface mode? In the old days, you can type "win" in DOS to get into Windows - something along that line. Is it possible for Ubuntu in this case?
Yes, you can reboot to switch between the modes, but shouldn't there be a command for this?
An little annoying problem. When i start firefox it starts in fullscreen mode. So the tabs to close, minimise, and the 3'rd to maximise have disappeared. On windows you hit f10 i believe to get these back. How do you do in firefox?

I want to install a 64bit-only application in my wine. But every time i try to load the installer it says that it only works on a 64bit-system.Iv'e tried the 32-version of the app and it works fine.I heard that since version 1.2 wine is able to support 64bits.But how do I force wine to load an app in 64bit-mode? I'm guessing there is an option to the wine command or something. But what is it? can't find anything in the man-page. And a google on the subject only brings up old posts from people who are trying to install wine in 64bit-ubuntu...
