I am looking for a software package that will allow me to enter lots of text (ramblings) and lots of pictures (albums). I want to then invite friends to look. This would be through their email.
View 4 RepliesI have four home computers (linux) that I can easily access using Remote Desktop Viewer. Two of the computers have Windows partitions with UltraVNC installed and I can access them without a problem.
However when I try to access a friends Windows computer in another part of the state I fail. I have researched the issue at length and it appears to be as simple as it is in my home situation the exception being I need to use the external IP address of the other computer but when I try I get a message saying the computer I am trying to access is closed, (the other computer is turned on) UltraVNC is used on the other computer and it has a dynamic IP address which I am updated with. I have checked the Windows firewall and it will allow VNC and we have tried it with the anti-virus disabled just in case that firewall was causing an issue. Lastly, remote access has been activated on the Windows computer. Can't think of anything else to mention,
I just recently purchased an iPod touch 4G running iOS 4.1 under the assumption that it would play nice with Ubuntu as stated here:..Devices/iPhone. It doesn't! I can't seem to get it to work. It shows up as a camera with 86MB of available space. I can access the photos that are on the device, but nothing else. I really would like to be able to transfer music to the device, but nothing seems to work. Rhythmbox doesn't even seem to recognize that it's there, the device isn't showing up in /media, and I can't seem to get a mount point. Has anybody out there had any success in this area? I've tried on both my 10.04 Desktop and 10.10 laptop machines
View 2 Replies View RelatedAccessing photos on my Nokia N97 mini via Bluetooth was lightning fast on 10.10, but on 11.04, each click on a folder (via Nautilus) takes well over 1 minute to display the next level and to swap from 'Icon View' to 'List View' with around 90 photos in a folder didn't complete after several minutes at which point I cancelled out. To select 5 photos took 1-2 mins but after an initial wait, the actual transfer was fairly fast. I've a MSI U100. Connection via Bluetooth works without problem.

I can see them fine, and we can talk to each other, but whenever I am signed in, my friends will always see me as offline, even though my status is set to available. I figured out why they couldn't see me. It turns out all of my contacts were blocked. Is there any reason why this would happen?

looking for a chat program that would let me (ubuntu10.10) contact other windows users on the network, i found that Pidgin and Bonjour do the trick.
however i could not find a way to chat with several people at a time (eg. create a chat-room). is this a fault of bonjour? is there a different program that can do this?

It asks for my password and then when i enter it synaptic starts to load and gives me this error message:E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. I installed Fedora 15/Gnome 3 because I liked the Universal Access Settings widget for controlling the appearance of my living room computer attached to my TV. It should (when it becomes more stable) make it easy to zoom in on the screen when I'm on the couch. There is also a Large Text setting that allows me to toggle between normal text size and perhaps 125% text size.
I'd like to set that value to about 200%, but don't see how to do it. dconf-editor didn't seem to have a way. gnome-tweak-tool has a way to make all fonts bigger or smaller but I want to easily switch between normal text size when I'm sitting close and large text from the UAS. Screwing around with gnome-tweak-tool would require me to be up-close. It looks like UAS is controlled by /usr/share/gnome-control-center/ui/uap.ui, but it is a wickedly complex xml file & I don't know what to edit. Is there a per user way to change the behavior?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI finally convinced my wife to remove Windows from her Acer Aspire 5680 and instead to use OpenSuse, but unfortunately I am having some major trouble for no reason.
You see as soon as I installed the OS, I tried to add some new programs, like Thunderbird, etc but I keep getting an Accessing the Package Management failed error message. It says that it can't continue because process 9172 is blocking it. But I opened the System Monitor and can't find the **** 9172! My OpenSuse installation doesn't have this problem.
Why does centos-release-notes have any dependancies ?
I can see no reason why centos-relese-notes should depend on centos-release when I try "yum erase centos-release-notes" I am told there are 72 dependancies including completely irrelevant packages such as tar all because of this unnecessary dependancy.
The centos-release-notes package simply contains a bunch of text/html files that nothing else relies upon, so why the dependancies ?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI need to get the libstdc++.so.5 library ( on a computer with Fedora 8 and don't wonder why it's so ancient,-there is a good reason for it) but I don't have Internet access from that computer, so I can't get to the online repo's.
However, I do still have the installation disk, and I'm typing this from a computer (SuSE 10) that is half a meter from the Fedora box.
I tried the "ADD/REMOVE Software" option on the menu, but it keeps on looking for the online repo and then if it doesn't get it, it fails.
Is it possible to get this library from the installation disk. How? Could I download the single package from the online repo onto the SuSE machine and then move it to the Fedora machine? How do I then tell the Fedora machine to "incorporate" it.
I just installed 10.10 and am trying to install java. I opened the terminal and got java and the install went fine. Then the terminal turned into a light blue background that says "Package Configuration" with a grey text box titled "Configuring sun-java-jre" and then has the java license agreement.I pressed enter assuming that would accept the agreement but it did not. How do I accept the license agreement so the installation can continue...?

What is it that ubuntu has that allows me to do this? I'd like to know, so that I can install it on arch.

I've tried digiKam and KRename, however I can't figure out how to simply rename the files as such:
~/Pictures/[year]/[month]/[datetime].JPG
where the year, month, and datetime are when the picture was taken, via EXIF data. In digiKam, I can't figure out how to rename the files to move to a different dirrectory than their current one, and with KRename, I can't figure out how to only use the year for the directory instead of the entire datetime.
