I m using ubuntu 10.04 netbook, My problem isWhen I use Pidgin, it didn't show my friends/contact list. It was showing 1st time when I configure my gtalk environment, but now it show my status available, but did not show my friends, so I couldn't know who is online
i am using the latest version of Debian Squeeze. everything is up to date but the pidgin program doesn't display the notification icons in the top right corner like it's supposed to, whats the problem here because i don't like to manually check to see who has logged and who has logged off.
is there a way to set a keyboard shortcut for opening pidgins buddy list? preferably, I'd like a way to snap to an unread message, or, if there are none, open the buddy list.
I have a shared windows folder mapped with nautilus. I can connect just fine, but it's strange... it doesn't list all the folders. The permissions are fine and if I "refresh" the view, sometimes the folders show, sometimes not. Any ideas?
I'm running PC/OS, which is based on Xubuntu. I've got all of the Shiki-Colors GTK themes, the GNOME-Colors icon themes, and the Arc-Colors themes installed. Everything's going great, but I've got one little annoyance going on. What's happening is the Arc-Colors (both the list and non-list version) showing up in my GTK themes list, and that's obviously not where they belong
these, of course, are supposed to be GDM themes. What's more, I see nothing in the /usr/share/themes directory to indicate that they're in there by mistake, and in fact, I distinctly remember putting them in /usr/share/gdm/themes, which is where they belong. I first tried this downloading and installing them from the repos, and when they acted up there, I tried the manual installs from GNOME-Look and got the same thing, too.
This is probably me looking but not seeing an option somewhere. I re-installed 10.10 over 10.04 by formatting the root partition but keeping the home partition the same, to save me a lot of work. (64 bit) However, now when I mount a CD, DVD or USB stick, they don't appear in Dophin's "Places" window. What have I missed please?
So I upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04 beta 2 two days back. Upon trying to use the system, these were the problems I had:
1. Mouse is absolutely not responsive. Even the cursor is not showing.
2. When I login through keyboard options only once this message flashed "Unity not supported by your hardware switch to classic mode on your next login". It flashed once, took me to the desktop screen where the classic desktop was available and I could not access anything without keyboard shortcuts.
3. When I tried launching firefox, deluge or even tried using the terminal to connect to the net I am unable to connect.
4. My USB devices are not read.
5. I finally tried to do a clean install of 10.10 using the live cd I already have but the OS is not booting from the cd.
As a result I am stuck with a comp which has no mouse, no internet, no usb support, no cd support. Do you guys have any idea how I get it to work again?
As the title says the machine name is not showing up in the attached devices list on my router. Is there a file where I need to add the name? Or is this an issue with the router? The router finds all the other machine names on the network except my 3 servers.
I am trying to install ubuntu 10.10 on an eee pc 1000H but the installer is hanging on the installation dialog that shows the check list for installation (min disk space, connected to the net, plugged in to wall outlet, etc).
I've been trying to add a redirect iptable record but each time I add it, it appears to add successfully (meaning it doesn't throw me any errors); yet when I run 'iptables -L' I can't see it listed:
I have a Kubuntu 10.10 install on which I can't update my packages due to some fail conflict between pidgin and pidgin-facebookchat. I can't even remove the stuff via apt-get due to this conflict...
sudo apt-get remove pidgin Code: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these:
Recently I have installed DockbarX and Cardapio. After installation they are supposed to be found in the Add to Panel items, but both of them are not there.I can run them directly without any problem. Is there anything else I should do manually? I have tried pkill gnome-panel to restart the panel as well.
None of my MSN friends are able to see me online when I used Empathy. I can see them fine, and we can talk to each other, but whenever I am signed in, my friends will always see me as offline, even though my status is set to available. I figured out why they couldn't see me. It turns out all of my contacts were blocked. Is there any reason why this would happen?
I am using Ubuntu 9.04. After doing sudo apt-get update When I try to insatll pidgin via terminal it shows: XXX@XXX-desktop:~$ sudo apt-get install pidgin Reading package lists... i have a lan network in my school that doesnt allow conection to the Internet. looking for a chat program that would let me (ubuntu10.10) contact other windows users on the network, i found that Pidgin and Bonjour do the trick.
however i could not find a way to chat with several people at a time (eg. create a chat-room). is this a fault of bonjour? is there a different program that can do this?
I am looking for a software package that will allow me to enter lots of text (ramblings) and lots of pictures (albums). I want to then invite friends to look. This would be through their email.
I have four home computers (linux) that I can easily access using Remote Desktop Viewer. Two of the computers have Windows partitions with UltraVNC installed and I can access them without a problem.
However when I try to access a friends Windows computer in another part of the state I fail. I have researched the issue at length and it appears to be as simple as it is in my home situation the exception being I need to use the external IP address of the other computer but when I try I get a message saying the computer I am trying to access is closed, (the other computer is turned on) UltraVNC is used on the other computer and it has a dynamic IP address which I am updated with. I have checked the Windows firewall and it will allow VNC and we have tried it with the anti-virus disabled just in case that firewall was causing an issue. Lastly, remote access has been activated on the Windows computer. Can't think of anything else to mention,
Previously after doing aptitude upgrade, my pidgin seems broken with no gui shown. So I decided to download the latest source from pidgin website and build it from source, but I think I made situation worse because it then complained that ssl lib was needed. Then I removed the libpurple (e.g. aptitude purge libpurple0 libpurple-bin libpurple-dev) and reinstalled pidgin (aptitude install pidgin). Now it shows the error
pidgin: symbol lookup error: pidgin: undefined symbol: purple_media_element_info_get_type
I searched on the internet and can not find a solution. The clues on the internet says that's because the piding I use is the older version of libpurple. But I think I've removed all with purge and reinstalled it. Maybe some legacy binary is referenced. What or where it might be? Or where there may contain related information.

When I try to connect a projector to my laptop (already running) and hit the fn+f7 (the designated button for switching screen), nothing happens. I see "no source found" on projector screen and my laptop screen works perfectly. Now if I restart the laptop with the projector connected, I see all the intial booting messages on the projector screen (not on my laptop), then the gnome login screen appears on both the projector screen and laptop (when the login screen appears on laptop it looks like it has lower resolution than my usual laptop resolution). But immediately after I log in, my laptop screen goes blank, and projector screen becomes the only active screen.
If I restart without the projector, again all normal operation on laptop screen is restored.
I feel like I am missing some very silly options. Any help is appreciated.
Here is the output of xrandr when the laptop is connected:
I tried to change the basic toolbar to cairo dock,a tutorial that i found told me to write in terminal gksu gedit /etc/apt/sources.list.d/winehq.listso i write it and a window opened,i couled not find the text that told me(the tutorial i mean)so i closed the window, after that i keep taiking the same error

All I want is for my bootloader to show "Ubuntu" & "Windows XP" which are the only 2 OS's I have installed (dual booting). At the moment it shows Windows XP, Ubuntu, Ubuntu recovery mode & like 2 more.. which are also Ubuntu & recovery mode. I've never selected the other Ubuntu ones, only the first one. So, how can I remove the ones I don't want to show on the list.
There is a problem with my source list (apparently) I'm running 11.04 if that helps. When I try to use apt-get install update for example, I get: "Malformed line 59 in source list etc/apt/sources.list"The same error occurs when trying to access synaptic package manager, it tells me there is a malformed line and the list of sources cannot be read. This error prevents me from apt-getting anything, updating and i suspect it is affecting the software center too.
