View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I installed my 64 bit system of Ubuntu 10.04 the sound worked very well and I were very happy. The problem started however when I installed Skype which uses pulseaudio. As soon as I start skype (or any other application that uses pulse, HoN for example) the applications sound output or input does not work at all. If I have pulseaudio started in some way, applications that I suppose do not use it like spotify or flash player stops to produce sounds. And when I type "pulseaudio" in the terminal it gives me this:

I have downloaded & installed the skype beta release for linux (now ancient?) on my newly build fedora 14 (64) box.
Under fedora 12, I made this work after several hours of mucking around by installing old libraries for 32 bit code in /lib and /usr/lib - as I got an error, I found the library and put it in place. This was painful and the WRONG way to do things - I should have been using yum!
It remains a shame that the Skype release for Linux is so old, but that is life.
Can anyone list the libraries needed (prefer yum names if possible) to make this work?
I can do this again the hard way and list the results for others (should have saved for myself, but I never dreamed that a newer Skype release would take so long) , but I am sure many folks have this working already. I am surprised there is no "yum install skype---" command.
I went throught the process of uninstalling ALSA and finding the right OSS to work with my soundcard. Now... whenever I try to start a skype call I get an error message stating 'Cproblem with audio playback'. I've read several posts on the issue, but none of them seem to address the issue of actually keeping OSS and configuring it so it would fit skype.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have difficulty with my webcam and Skype. I can see the other person but she can't see me. From a previous thread: Are you sure your camera isnt working? Supported hardware drivers are in the kernel usually. Test: press alt+f2, type gstreamer-properties go to the video tab and see if your camera is listed as a device. If yes, press the test button. This test was OK. I could see my face on the screen.
Quote: Ah, the Skype camera thing. Launch it this way: LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype
I tried this. It launches Skype OK, but the little window that should show what my webcam sees, appears full of black and white static.
i just installed ubuntu netbook remix 10.04.1 on an aspire one 532h netbook, and everything works great except i cant get the mic to work with skype. i know the mic is working correctly because i tried it in sound recorder and was able to record and playback my voice.all sound levels are where they should be, and everything seems to be in order. i'm using the latest beta of skype also. i installed pavucontrol but that didn't do anything.because the mic is working, i'm beginning to think it may be a problem with skype.

I found following path in forums and tried it:
In Skype I selected Options/Video Devices/ Test
The webcam light is on but I see only blank screen. In Terminal, it gives following error message:
X Error, request 133, minor 18, error code 8 BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
I use Ubuntu 10.04
Skype 2.1.0.81
I've installed Ubuntu 10.10 on a desktop computer. In general things work pretty well but I cannot get the webcam to work in Skype. It's a Zebronics webcam, not sure of the model number. I installed Cheese to see if it shows videos from the webcam connected to the computer and it does. In Skype preference I can see that Skype looks for the webcam in /dev/video0 but apparently it can't find anything there.
I wish there was some client program in Ubuntu/Linux which supported both audio call and video chat on the yahoo network. Kopete supports only video and Gyache is not compatible with the new Yahoo 10 protocol or whatever it is. Extremely frustrating for someone who is trying to get others to use Ubuntu instead of Windows.
I have problem with skype in ubuntu 11.04 Sometimes skype do not launch and after reinstall skype it`s work and every day is same.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI use Kubuntu 9.10 on my desktop and UNR 9.10 on my netbook... both worked just fine before(with every version of Ubuntu since 8.04), but I didn't use them for a little while with 9.10 and nothing from either of them... Logitech USB headset and the IPV Free2 USB phone.... granted I couldn't use all the features with the Free2 phone before but I could still use it to talk with skype. When I go to sound devices in skype, they are both recognized by the system... but just will not work no matter what.

i am trying to video chat with my logitech C200 webcam but it does not work with skype or empathy. Do i need to download special drivers?. In skype i can't even test the camera. and with empathy the webcam icon and the video call option are grayed out. I downloaded "guvcview" from the software center and it works like a charm, i can capture video and take pictures, so i don't really understand why skype and emphaty dont work.

I don't have direct access to this machine, but they told me that internet is not working (firefox, synaptic,etc...), but only skype works! If they reboot on windows, everything works well, so it's not a matter of connection or dns. It's very important because they work with that computer. How can i solve the problem? and what could be the cause of this strange anomaly

View 1 Replies View RelatedI wonder if someone might be able to help with a webcam problem I'm having (or point me in the direction of a previous thread on the subject?). I'm trying Xubuntu on my wife's elderly Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop. It's working beautifully for the most part. But I've tried two different usb webcams, both of which are recognized by Cheese but don't work in Skype.
In Skype, what happens is that Skype is aware that a webcam is present. It does NOT say "no webcam detected". But in Skype Options, when I visit the Options for "Video Devices", and click on the "Test" button to test the webcam, nothing happens at all.
And when I make a test video call to a friend, with video turned on, all the friend sees is a black screen where the image should be, and a little turning symbol presumably to indicate "please wait for image to appear". It never appears.
I have an Acer Laptop 5739G I believe. It has an Acer Crystal Eye webcam that won't work with Skype or anything.I've tried a few different methods but couldn't get it to work.Really noobtastic with Linux so realllllly basic information works for me.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI was just looking through Skype.com and noticed that there's no Skype download, although there is a Static one and also for Debian as well as Ubuntu (amongst some other distros).Does Skype work well in WINE or am I just better off waiting for a Linux distro?
One slight reason for my concern is because I've heard that Microsoft bought Skype, and if that occurs we might not get as much support as we need and may have to resort to using WINE for Skype.
I have just installed skype on my rhel 6.0 for the first time and eventhough it seems to have successfully been installed and the skype icon appears on the desktop and as well on the applications but when i double click on it, it doesnt start and i also typed skype or ./skype at the terminal but it gives me the following error. how i should go about it? i first instaled skype for fedora,it didn't work then uninstalled it and installed static skype.

I have this weird problem because I upgraded to Lucid lynx beta, and my ATI drivers don't work anymore... no support yet I guess and because of the broken package it doesn't let me install skype what should I do? And by the way do you have any idea why when I accept to show or view webcams it cancels shortly before it shows.. Any ideas why?
