But when I test webcam in skype the light of the webcam glows but I do not see image on the test screen. the test screen remains back. Could someone suggest what could be the problem and a possible solution?PS: The webcam works fine with "Cheese"
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have difficulty with my webcam and Skype. I can see the other person but she can't see me. From a previous thread: Are you sure your camera isnt working? Supported hardware drivers are in the kernel usually. Test: press alt+f2, type gstreamer-properties go to the video tab and see if your camera is listed as a device. If yes, press the test button. This test was OK. I could see my face on the screen.
Quote: Ah, the Skype camera thing. Launch it this way: LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype
I tried this. It launches Skype OK, but the little window that should show what my webcam sees, appears full of black and white static.
My webcam does not work in Skype while it works fine with Cheese.
I found following path in forums and tried it:
In Skype I selected Options/Video Devices/ Test
The webcam light is on but I see only blank screen. In Terminal, it gives following error message:
X Error, request 133, minor 18, error code 8 BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
I use Ubuntu 10.04
Skype 2.1.0.81
I've installed Ubuntu 10.10 on a desktop computer. In general things work pretty well but I cannot get the webcam to work in Skype. It's a Zebronics webcam, not sure of the model number. I installed Cheese to see if it shows videos from the webcam connected to the computer and it does. In Skype preference I can see that Skype looks for the webcam in /dev/video0 but apparently it can't find anything there.
I wish there was some client program in Ubuntu/Linux which supported both audio call and video chat on the yahoo network. Kopete supports only video and Gyache is not compatible with the new Yahoo 10 protocol or whatever it is. Extremely frustrating for someone who is trying to get others to use Ubuntu instead of Windows.
Video calls make Skype crash. I need setting up Xv on my computer.
I'm using:
Ubuntu 8.04
Skype 2.0.0.72

I've also tried unplugging stuff from my USB ports, but that didn't help.
The web cam is built-in.
I have a Toshiba Satellite.
I'm not having any luck finding an up-to-date tutorial on how to install Xv on Hardy Heron.
l installed thelatest beta version of skype from officila skype on my ubuntu 9.10,but my webcam doesn' t work and l can not see other webcams, lt work correctly with amsn and cheese

i am trying to video chat with my logitech C200 webcam but it does not work with skype or empathy. Do i need to download special drivers?. In skype i can't even test the camera. and with empathy the webcam icon and the video call option are grayed out. I downloaded "guvcview" from the software center and it works like a charm, i can capture video and take pictures, so i don't really understand why skype and emphaty dont work.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen i set skype to load on start up my webcam will not work. However if I manually start it after booting up the system it works fine. I am not using ciaro dock but am using docky. My webcam is a Logitech. This can be anoying as I would sometimes forget to turn Skype on manually.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am currently running Lucid 10.04 Ubuntu through Wubi and am having MAJOR problems with my webcam. I can use this webcam on windows vista without a problem and very nice picture quality, but when I try and use it on Ubuntu I run into some snags. The webcam is connected and works, kind of, on "cheese", but when I run a test on skype it is just a black box.I have found some code through the forums that allows me to run skype via terminal and will let my webcam work as well as it will on Cheese. Now, when it does run the picture is very blue and dark as well as extremely laggy compared to when ran on Windows Vista.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm using a basically vanilla Lubuntu 11.04 My Logitech E 3500 webcam works fine with Cheese. I have just installed Skype, but my voice isn't picked up on the test call, and no video either (the webcam light remains off). I've tried logging off and into Skype.

I am able to get the program GUCView to work without any problems, but I can not get my webcam to work with either aMSN or Skype (2.1 Beta for Linux). I don't know what to do next, or what my options are at this time. All of my friends/family use MSN and/or Skype with MS Windows or Mac. I am able to get sound/voice to work but no visuals.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using a USB headset and a logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 with Ubuntu 10.04
1. When I change the sound to internal sound the webcam works in Skype but I have not sound.
2. When I change the sound to the USB headset (sound output) the webcam does not work in Skype.
Basically the webcam shows up in the list but clicking test does nothing, it just sits there. The webcam works perfectly in cheese.
I used too solve this problem by doing the following
type
Code:
Quote:
sudo gedit /usr/local/bin/skype
and paste the following 2 line
[Code].....
But this doesn't seem too work now, not since I reinstalled ubuntu.
NOTE: I am using the 64bit release.
I installed the 64 bit version of 10.04. I downloaded Skype and it works fine, but it doesn't see my built in webcam under 'options'. The monitor is a ThinkVision 2251x.

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10. I can't seem to get skype to work. See, the person I'm chatting with can receive video and audio, I can receive audio, but I cannot see them, even when they engage their webcam.
My cheese can take pictures from my webcam, but I can't see the screen of the webcam before I take the picture, it's only black, and when I click on the take the picture, it'll take it, and display it correctly, but the screen is black. Now, I just dled camorama, but it's saying "Could not connect to video device C/dev/video0). please check connection." I don't know what this means.
My lsusb says:

The Ricoh Webcam is a built in cam, but it doesn't work either. I have an external cam that used to work, but the cam works, it's just the display that seems effed up.
Did you test a webcam which is immediatly recognized by ubunty 9.10 and works well on skype?
View 9 Replies View RelatedIt recognized the webcam alright. But after an update perhaps a couple of months ago, it no longer does. Skype is Beta version 2.1.0.81. I have a Dell E6520 with Ubuntu 11.04 installed. The webcam and everything else has worked like a charm, including webcam in Skype and other applications. Today Skype webcam got VERY dark. I installed cheese and started it up. The screen was dark initially, but auto adjusted to be good again.
However in Skype same problems. So I followed this: [URL] and installed guvcview and tried to set some values. Suddenly I got some exceptions, and now nothing is working. Cheese will not even show anything else then a hint of a lamp that is in the background. I have tried to install many different software to be able to set the webcam, but no success. In some I get an decent image to start with, but then after one second it will go dark again.
I have found a few threads regarding this issue but none seem to be exactly what I've got or were too old to re-open the thread.
Ubuntu 11.04
Skype 2.2.0.35-1
Logitech Quickcam
Logitech C310 720HD webcam
Basic: Video call in Skype using the C310 causes the PC to crash at random times during the session. The quickcam seems to be ok, just an awful experience. Thought it might be a pulseaudio problem so did the following:
added autospawn = no to .pulse/client.conf
killall pulseaudio
Restarted Skype
Changed audio settings in Skype to use MB chip ICH5
Restarted pulseaudio -D
No difference (if anything crashes quicker) except the CPU load is halved.
The pc freezes and is unresponsive. lights on keyboard flash.
I have no idea if this is sound or video card related.
Below is a link to a screen shot.
