I've installed Ubuntu 10.10 on a desktop computer. In general things work pretty well but I cannot get the webcam to work in Skype. It's a Zebronics webcam, not sure of the model number. I installed Cheese to see if it shows videos from the webcam connected to the computer and it does. In Skype preference I can see that Skype looks for the webcam in /dev/video0 but apparently it can't find anything there.
I wish there was some client program in Ubuntu/Linux which supported both audio call and video chat on the yahoo network. Kopete supports only video and Gyache is not compatible with the new Yahoo 10 protocol or whatever it is. Extremely frustrating for someone who is trying to get others to use Ubuntu instead of Windows.
I'm a newbie to Ubuntu (9.10) and have been unable to get the webcam to work in Skype. It works just fine in Cheese.

I'm running xubuntu 8.04 with LXDE, 192 mb ram on sony VAIO pcg-z600lek. I want to find a usb webcam that would work with skype (22.214.171.124.)? is there anything I should I look out for when buying such a webcam?
When i set skype to load on start up my webcam will not work. However if I manually start it after booting up the system it works fine. I am not using ciaro dock but am using docky. My webcam is a Logitech. This can be anoying as I would sometimes forget to turn Skype on manually.
I am currently running Lucid 10.04 Ubuntu through Wubi and am having MAJOR problems with my webcam. I can use this webcam on windows vista without a problem and very nice picture quality, but when I try and use it on Ubuntu I run into some snags. The webcam is connected and works, kind of, on "cheese", but when I run a test on skype it is just a black box.I have found some code through the forums that allows me to run skype via terminal and will let my webcam work as well as it will on Cheese. Now, when it does run the picture is very blue and dark as well as extremely laggy compared to when ran on Windows Vista.
I'm using a basically vanilla Lubuntu 11.04 My Logitech E 3500 webcam works fine with Cheese. I have just installed Skype, but my voice isn't picked up on the test call, and no video either (the webcam light remains off). I've tried logging off and into Skype.
I have Ubuntu 9.10 installed on my dv2000 hp latpop. I also installed the Beta version of Skype. But when I test webcam in skype the light of the webcam glows but I do not see image on the test screen. the test screen remains back. Could someone suggest what could be the problem and a possible solution?PS: The webcam works fine with "Cheese"
I have difficulty with my webcam and Skype. I can see the other person but she can't see me. From a previous thread: Are you sure your camera isnt working? Supported hardware drivers are in the kernel usually. Test: press alt+f2, type gstreamer-properties go to the video tab and see if your camera is listed as a device. If yes, press the test button. This test was OK. I could see my face on the screen.
Quote: Ah, the Skype camera thing. Launch it this way: LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype
I tried this. It launches Skype OK, but the little window that should show what my webcam sees, appears full of black and white static.
i am trying to video chat with my logitech C200 webcam but it does not work with skype or empathy. Do i need to download special drivers?. In skype i can't even test the camera. and with empathy the webcam icon and the video call option are grayed out. I downloaded "guvcview" from the software center and it works like a charm, i can capture video and take pictures, so i don't really understand why skype and emphaty dont work.
I have an Acer Laptop 5739G I believe. It has an Acer Crystal Eye webcam that won't work with Skype or anything.I've tried a few different methods but couldn't get it to work.Really noobtastic with Linux so realllllly basic information works for me.
I have the webcam model Microsoft LifeCam NX-6000 running on my Toshiba Satellite laptop with Debian Sid and kernel 126.96.36.199. I am able to get the program GUCView to work without any problems, but I can not get my webcam to work with either aMSN or Skype (2.1 Beta for Linux). I don't know what to do next, or what my options are at this time. All of my friends/family use MSN and/or Skype with MS Windows or Mac. I am able to get sound/voice to work but no visuals.
back when I was Windows Vista (the pre-installed OS on my laptop), whenever I would activate my webcam through skype, I separate program would also initiate. This program would give me the ability to alter the image, like black and white, fish-eye, etc.Is there anyway to get skype to activate cheese webcam so I can use its effects?
In skype 2.1 beta for ubuntu 10.04 LTS desktop amd64, the webcam is not getting configured at all. The test button in <options> for video shows no results or response. The same problem was faced in Karmic Koala also and now in Lucid Lynx. Kindly provide some concrete solutions to this very problem of configuring webcam in skype for ubuntu.
i'm trying to use video call in skype or empathy, either is fine. Neither works. In Skype I can receive video but it doesn't broadcast mine at all. In empathy it shows my video right up to the second the call connects, then the 'video call' crashes.
edit: cam is definitely working (works fine in cheese and other cam apps) just not broadcasting
My webcam works. It works in Cheese and apparently the person I connect with on skype can see my feed. They claim their webcam works fine, but I can't get their feed: instead, I just get a white box. When I try to test my own webcam, I get a similar white box. I think there's something wrong with the way skype is configured on my laptop, but I can't figure it out.
I'm running ubuntu 9.04 on an acer laptop with an acer crystal eye webcam. I installed skype by downloading the binary directly from the website.
I have a ASUS K52J.I tried cheese. It was initially upside down. Then I tried Video for linux device preferences. When I checked vertival flip, that fixed cheese. But it was still upside down in skype.I tried downloading skype from the webpage, and from synaptic.I tried running skype in sudo.I tried: export LIBV4LCONTROL_FLAGS=3 && L
D_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype but i get: ERROR: ld.so: object '/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored
and I tried: export LIBV4LCONTROL_FLAGS=3 && LD_PRELOAD=/usr/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype ERROR: ld.so: object '/usr/libv4l/v4l1compat.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored.I tried this:
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype When skype loads up, i go to the options>video>test. The green light comes on by the built in webcam, then i get a segmentation fault and skype crashes: /usr/local/bin/skype: line 2:4055 Segmentation fault LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so /usr/bin/skype
Then I tried:LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so then running skype and i got the segmentation fault again.I may have missed some threads on this but everyone else seemed to be thanking someone for fixing their problem by now. Finally I tried threating my computer with a Windows installation. But I think both me and the computer knew it was a hollow threat,
My webcam works at my end but two people have said they can't see me their end using skype. They webcam with other people so i know it is not their settings or anything. One has a mac and the other a windows machine. I really don't have anyone else to test this with as most people i know don't have webcams.
When I installed my 64 bit system of Ubuntu 10.04 the sound worked very well and I were very happy. The problem started however when I installed Skype which uses pulseaudio. As soon as I start skype (or any other application that uses pulse, HoN for example) the applications sound output or input does not work at all. If I have pulseaudio started in some way, applications that I suppose do not use it like spotify or flash player stops to produce sounds. And when I type "pulseaudio" in the terminal it gives me this:
I'm using Wubi to dual boot 9.10 off windows xp. I have been having very good luck figuring things out using this ubuntu forum, which I am more grateful for than any of you could ever imagine, But I have a webcam issue I just can't figure out. Heres my question. I just recently bought a VERY cheap usb webcam from a company named HDE. There doesn't seem to be a specific name or even model number for this webcam, but here is the web page of the webcam I bought, http://www.hdeshop.com/USB-3-LED-PC-...B0015TJNEY.htm The website only provides drivers for windows vista and windows xp, but I figured there might be a chance or possibility that I could force this webcam to work on ubuntu 9.10. I plugged in the webcam and it did show up in skype, but the picture is all green and there is a double of me.
Plus, the actual webcam device will not show up in skype, I can't select the webcam, but regardless it still shows a green double vision image when I test it or do a video call.Skype seems to be the only thing this webcam kind of works with, It will not work with Cheese though and doesn't show an image in gstreamer. I want to mention that when I go to Cheese Preferences there is a webcam device that appears and sayse "USB 2.0 Camera (/dev/video0)" but I can't select it. I'm not sure what to do about this or how to fix it? I've searched around the internet and read the ubuntu documentation on webcams but really haven't had any luck for my specific webcam. I would just like the webcam to be detected by ubuntu 9.10, to work properly in skype, and work in cheese so I can record video's.
