Just made a clean installation of the new Ubuntu 10.04 LTS this morning. So far, so good. Things are working smooth but there is one thing that bothers me - Skype (latest version). Here's a list of what's wrongSo this isn't just a Skype issue.

My audio and video used to work great in skype. Two days ago connected my laptop and TV, in order to use the TV as a second monitor, to watch a football match (I only have IPTV). Only thing I had to do was to go to System -> Preferences -> Sound and switch (in the hardware tab) my Internal Audio Hardware from Analog Stereo Duplex to Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output + Analog Stereo Input.
So after the match I switched it back to Analog Stereo Duplex and proceeded to skype with my girlfriend. Problem was, the mic stopped working. It works just fine in 'Input' tab of my sound preferences, as well as in sound recorder. She, in skype, heard nothing but static. Test call doesn't work either. Now I've done all the usual stuff, Skype isn't allowed to automatically adjust mixer levels and my mic is already boosted. I've reinstalled skype and everything. I'm running out of ideas.
I have a motherboard p5bvm-se with 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller. The sound in earphones playing. I installed skype skype-2.1.0.81-3.1-x86-64 from build.opensuse.org/home:matteotomasoni or skype-2.1.0.81-suse.i586.rpm from [URL]... Microphone does not work in skype!

Sound recording from build-in mic was fine in skype and cheese after i installed UNR in my Acer Aspire One 110L in early December last year.
But somehow, i just realized that my sound recording was not functioning when i use skype this morning.
(i don't know since when this problem occur as i never use skype and cheese in past few weeks and i did update a few time from synaptic and install ubuntu-boot kernel)
just now i remove ubuntu-boot and reinstall the 2.6.31-17-generic kernel and run
sudo dpkg-reconfigure pulseaudio
but skype and cheese still does not record from build in microphone but only record from external microphone.
One weird thing is Sound recorder do record from both the build-in mic and external mic.
i tried "parec -r test.wav" and "parec -p test.wav" and it also record from both mic.
Anyone know how to configure my netbook so that the internal mic work on skype?
I have some troubles with my microphone.I can hear it in ootput if I knock on it or speak, but I can't record from mic. It also does not work in skype.cant figure out what is the problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI go to System>Preferences>Sound>Input. The setting, that I had previously placed at 50 %, is now at 10 %. I try to drag it with the mouse but it refuses to move. I have to hang up the communication and then take it back to 50 %. After I call again, we can talk OK. What can I do to correct this trouble? I am using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - the Lucid Lynx - released in April 2010.

I've dumped Pulseaudio, made sure volume is up in Alsa, rebooted, but Skype still lists Pulseaudio as what it's using! How do I get its tiny mind to use something else? There was also a thread saying an earlier version of Skype, 2.1.0.47, used to work, but I can't find a 64-bit version of that. I've got the 32-bit version which I could run in a 32-bit ubuntu in virtualbox, but fergawdssake there has to be a better way!How do I make sure the system isn't still somehow using Pulseaudio? I was able to get it to work in the Sound Recorder Application and in the System Testing function, but when I do the Skype Test Call, or call someone with Skype, while I can hear the other person perfectly well, my microphone does not appear to work at all, so it is a strictly one way conversation.
I've made sure with the ALSA Mixer that everything is turned on, and all my sound settings are fine, but microphone won't work in Skype.
I'm running 9.10 and I've being using skype for months with no issues, but today my microphone isn't working. I've tested the physical microphone on another machine and it works fine. I've tried skype, sound recorder and neither gets any input. I also have webcam and the microphone on that isn't working either.

when plugged in, the headphone work, but skype does not record any sound from the microphone.

The problem started however when I installed Skype which uses pulseaudio. As soon as I start skype (or any other application that uses pulse, HoN for example) the applications sound output or input does not work at all. I can't seem to get my microphone to work on Ubuntu 10.04. I have a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE PCI sound card. [URL]... Sound card is recognized by System/Preferences/Sound/Hardware as CA0106 Sound Blaster 1 Output / 1 Input Analog Stereo Duplex And sound output works 100% perfectly. I Google'd for hours and did not see anything to fix my microphone. My computer has front headphone and microphone ports and the front headphone port works fine but microphone does not. Also I tried plugging microphone into all the ports on the back into sound card but none worked. Also, I ran alsamixer from terminal and maxed out all volume settings. I wish to get the microphone working so I can play Counter Strike Source with Wine. I am willing to buy another sound card if someone can point out a replacement.

The box has a front mic jack and I can't get that to work.In the "Sound Preferences", it shows two possible hardware sources: "Internal Audio" and "SB X-fi".In "Input" I have multiple choices for "Connector" when "Internal Audio analog stereo is selected" ("Microphone 1/Line-In" etc) and for "SB X-Fi Analog Mono" there are none.I have tried every combination in there, plus every combination I can think of in "alsamixer" and the microphone still does not work (I know the microphone itself is OK).

The microphone does not appear to work at all. It seems to exist because I have a choice for "Internal Audio Analog Stereo" under "sound preferences," but I don't know how else to check whether this is true. Sound Recorder does not record anything and Skype does not capture any sound from me.

I'm having some pulseaudio weirdness. Up until this evening, my built-in microphone worked fine with skype, google voice, etc.Tonight while talking on google voice, I made the mistake of trying to adjust the microphone volume at the same time.Suddenly the volume cut down to a tiny, tinny little sound.Now I can't get the microphone to work normally again. Some weird facts:
1) the built-in microphone still works fine in audacity and gnome-sound-recorder
2) the built-in microphone still works in Windows
3) the built-in microphone shows sound input in the pulseaudio applet->Volume Meter [code]....
I can't get the microphone to work in any application (Sound Recorder, Audacity, Skype, etc.) It's been this way for a while and didn't bother me, but now I need to use Skype for work so I desperately need to fix this over the weekend. I checked the Comprehensive Sound Guide, but couldn't find an answer there. As far as I know, my ALSA is up to date (I had to update it to get the sound working at all).On a MSI Wind Desktop with 10.04, if that makes a difference.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a hda-intel soundcard which is working perfectly with alsa on Kubuntu 10.4. The only problem is the microphone.
Apparently I am not able to make it capture any sound or the sound is horrible:
- it works only in QArecord after I check the "Capture" checkbox.
-it doesn't work at all for Flash even if I Allow Flsh to use my mic
-it doesn't work at all for vmware player (I have a winxp guest os)
-in Skype for Linux it works only if I set Microphone boost to 100%, but the sound is too weak and distorted.
In alsa mixer I have enabled all 3 Capture sliders to 100%, the Mic is at 100%, Input sources are all 3 set up as Mic.
The microphone doesn't work at all for any application if I use FrontMic instead of Mic.
Being able to use the microphone in Skype and VMware player is very important to me and it's the only thing keeping me from using linux as my main OS.
Note: I have tried Slackware and I have the same issues there too.

I was able to get the sound working by installing ALSA Mixer and appending the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file with [options snd-hda-intel model="imac24"]. Input is not muted. That file is attached.
My gnome-volume-control recognizes an 'Internal Audio Analog Stereo' device, but it picks up no sound. Here's the chip information: Realtek ALC889A.
The mic on my laptop (lenovo g555, Ubuntu 11.04) doesn't work. No matter what application I'm using, it won't register. It worked just fine when I had windows installed. I've checked my sound preferences, and my input isn't muted, and no matter what volume I put the input at, it won't pick anything up.
