Ubuntu :: Skype Webcam Suddenly Got Dark

I have a Dell E6520 with Ubuntu 11.04 installed. The webcam and everything else has worked like a charm, including webcam in Skype and other applications. Today Skype webcam got VERY dark. I installed cheese and started it up. The screen was dark initially, but auto adjusted to be good again.
However in Skype same problems. So I followed this: [URL] and installed guvcview and tried to set some values. Suddenly I got some exceptions, and now nothing is working. Cheese will not even show anything else then a hint of a lamp that is in the background. I have tried to install many different software to be able to set the webcam, but no success. In some I get an decent image to start with, but then after one second it will go dark again.

I found drivers for the laptop, both the basic and the webcam. The problem is that image is very dark. On my other OS i don't have this issue. PS: My Laptop is = Asus f5rl

It took me a while to find a post that solved my problem, so I thought I'd try to make it easier for others with the same problem to find the solution.If you are using Skype with a dark themed lucid lynx 10.04, you may find that your Skype menus appeardark and unreadable, and that tooltips (when you move your mouse over a contact) appear pale and unreadable. I have buy new webcam Trust WB-1400T, connected to my Fedora and got very dark picture with probably bad whitebalance, while on windows, result is much better with the same device.
I tried:
1) HW check, verified - running OK
2) checked, if HW is supported. it is by driver gspca_pac207 with 5 stars

I found a webcam lying around, i installed cheese, and it works.... but looks awful. Roommate had it set up on windows it pictures looked much better. Its just a small HP webcam (prob 1.3 MP), but pics should be better than they are. Max resolution is 352x288, pics are very dark, and barely has color.

I'm using the shiki colors theme from the repos right now. "Shiki-Noble" to be specific. When typing something into Firefox's URL bar the internet addresses have got a dark font color and are hard to read on the dark background. Here's a screenshot: FF.jpg
I've had similar issues with other themes and Firefox's URL bar before.

My skype has suddenly stopped working. It starts then stops halfway though the startup. If i run it from the terminal it say Aborted as it stops. I've triedupdating the whole system, including enabling thee and backports options in software sources. I've tried re-installing skype, I've even re-installed the whole system.

I have been using Skype 2.2 beta on Ubuntu 11.04 using a Logitech 260 camera/microphone -- all with excellent results -- for the past couple of weeks.Today, for some reason unknown to me, my Skype contacts began telling me that my audio was nearly unintelligible, though I had no problem hearing them. I initially thought the problem was at their end; but then I did a test call and listened to the play-back of my own voice recording, and it was awful. It's sounds like I'm speaking under water with a buzzing sound in the background, and the words are barely audible.I wish somebody could tell me what's going on. I bought a Dell Inspiron with pre-installed ubuntu. All has been working for the last year and recently my integrated webcam stopped working. I was trying to use it on skype and it did nothing, although the program recognises I have a webcam, I tried cheese and the power light on my webcam comes on but again the screen does nothing.

My audio and video used to work great in skype. Two days ago connected my laptop and TV, in order to use the TV as a second monitor, to watch a football match (I only have IPTV). Only thing I had to do was to go to System -> Preferences -> Sound and switch (in the hardware tab) my Internal Audio Hardware from Analog Stereo Duplex to Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output + Analog Stereo Input.
So after the match I switched it back to Analog Stereo Duplex and proceeded to skype with my girlfriend. Problem was, the mic stopped working. It works just fine in 'Input' tab of my sound preferences, as well as in sound recorder. She, in skype, heard nothing but static. Test call doesn't work either. Now I've done all the usual stuff, Skype isn't allowed to automatically adjust mixer levels and my mic is already boosted. I've reinstalled skype and everything. I'm running out of ideas.

Basically the webcam shows up in the list but clicking test does nothing, it just sits there. The webcam works perfectly in cheese.
I used too solve this problem by doing the following

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10. I can't seem to get skype to work. See, the person I'm chatting with can receive video and audio, I can receive audio, but I cannot see them, even when they engage their webcam.
My cheese can take pictures from my webcam, but I can't see the screen of the webcam before I take the picture, it's only black, and when I click on the take the picture, it'll take it, and display it correctly, but the screen is black. Now, I just dled camorama, but it's saying "Could not connect to video device C/dev/video0). please check connection." I don't know what this means.
My lsusb says:

The Ricoh Webcam is a built in cam, but it doesn't work either. I have an external cam that used to work, but the cam works, it's just the display that seems effed up.

I have Ubuntu 9.10 installed on my dv2000 hp latpop. I also installed the Beta version of Skype. But when I test webcam in skype the light of the webcam glows but I do not see image on the test screen. the test screen remains back. I have difficulty with my webcam and Skype. I can see the other person but she can't see me. From a previous thread: Are you sure your camera isnt working? Supported hardware drivers are in the kernel usually. Test: press alt+f2, type gstreamer-properties go to the video tab and see if your camera is listed as a device. If yes, press the test button. This test was OK. I could see my face on the screen.

I tried this. It launches Skype OK, but the little window that should show what my webcam sees, appears full of black and white static.

It recognized the webcam alright. But after an update perhaps a couple of months ago, it no longer does. Skype is Beta version 2.1.0.81. If I go to Options, Video devices, it shows me only one option for webcam, namely Quote:USB Camera (05a9:a511) (/dev/video0)I click on test but nothing happens. My webcam does not work in Skype while it works fine with Cheese.

The webcam light is on but I see only blank screen. In Terminal, it gives following error message:

I've installed Ubuntu 10.10 on a desktop computer. In general things work pretty well but I cannot get the webcam to work in Skype. It's a Zebronics webcam, not sure of the model number. I installed Cheese to see if it shows videos from the webcam connected to the computer and it does. In Skype preference I can see that Skype looks for the webcam in /dev/video0 but apparently it can't find anything there.
I wish there was some client program in Ubuntu/Linux which supported both audio call and video chat on the yahoo network. Kopete supports only video and Gyache is not compatible with the new Yahoo 10 protocol or whatever it is. Extremely frustrating for someone who is trying to get others to use Ubuntu instead of Windows.

Basic: Video call in Skype using the C310 causes the PC to crash at random times during the session. The quickcam seems to be ok, just an awful experience. Thought it might be a pulseaudio problem so did the following:
added autospawn = no to .pulse/client.conf
killall pulseaudio
Restarted Skype
Changed audio settings in Skype to use MB chip ICH5
Restarted pulseaudio -D
No difference (if anything crashes quicker) except the CPU load is halved.
The pc freezes and is unresponsive. lights on keyboard flash.
I have no idea if this is sound or video card related.

When i run skype, it detects my camera , but it work show any picture when i test. In gstreamer-properties testing, it works fine using v4l2. When i use Cheese, it comes up with no problem. Below is the terminal output from my testing. How can i get this to work?
