View 1 RepliesI have two applications that I would like to always open up in Workspace 2, even when i restart my computer. Is there a GUI solution that can do this? One of the apps is the Sound Preference window I would like set to open with the input tab selected.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI believe I may have found a bug in Unity. Under the right circumstances an application will jump from the workspace where I left them to my current workspace. This is most noticeable with VirtualBox. I built an Ubuntu 11.04 virtual machine so that I could test out new packages before I push them out to the rest of my machines. But the window for the virtual machine constantly appears in my current workspace. It may take a few minutes, or 30 minutes, but it will happen.
I can kind of understand it if a new window appears, but at least with VirtualBox, this happens on a running virtual machine seemingly randomly.
I am using the elementary gtk theme, but I wanted to have my gnome-panel have a set custom background, so I went into the 'gtkrc' and commented out "#include "Apps/panel.rc"". This worked perfectly but, the right click menus and drop down menus changed color which conflict with the icons that I am using.
View 1 Replies View RelatedRunning Ubuntu 10.04 64bit.Is there a way to setup each workspace to have different icons on each workspace. Example:
Workspace 1 = Internet icon stuff (IM, Browsers, Etc...)
Workspace 2 = Multimedia icons (Video Editors, Music Clients)
Is there any way to have workspaces on multiple rows without the workspace switcher added to a panel? I have limited screen space so i want to try and remove any unnecessary items. I have tried using a drawer, but the workspace application is not loaded until the drawer is opened once. Also note I am not running compiz as the computer is a netbook.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI use a terminal with white text on black background (I just like it better), so I wrote the following line in my .vimrc file: set background=dark
However, gvim has black on white text. How do I do either of the following: Set the background of gvim to black Check in .vimrc if I'm using gvim I tried this: I started up gvim, and typed echo &term. The answer was "builtin_gui". So I wrote the following into .vimrc:
if &term == "builtin_gui"
set background=light
else
set background=dark
endif
Somehow, it didn't work.
Anyone know why each time I boot up the machine the cube background image goes away and the background colour is left. This image i am placing is in Apparency/Skydome
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have spent the most part of 5 hours trying to fix this issue. For some reason I cannot change the background image to any of mt .jpg wallpaper files (and .png files). I've tried using the Ubuntu-Tweak application, but I end up getting a purple screen (default) or a black screen (default). So then I tried using the terminal method by making the Appearance window appear when I would log out. That works, except when I go to use my background image, it shows as a question mark for the image preview, and the icon for the file is a gray box. All while doing this my background images that I tested are all in the /usr/share/backgrounds location. Please help! I really want to get rid of the default images and use my images... :/ My desktop/screen in 1440x900, and most my background images are around that size. They work with my regular desktop for my account.

So I'm still using the Ubuntu Lucid default bootloader grub2. I can boot up opensuse correctly. the nagging thing is that there's no splash screen show up during the boot process, instead, lines of command are flashing, the console background is also missing and the font under console (tty1-6) is huge. what can I do to have these back to opensuse? the current entry in grub2 for opensuse
Code:
menuentry "openSUSE 11.2 (i586) (on /dev/sda2)" {
insmod ext2
set root='(hd0,2)'
search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set 9ac05ede-e7c4-47f3-b55b-66d5844$
linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31.12-0.2-desktop root=/dev/sda2

I am using Ubuntu 8.10... Is there a way to keep a separate wallpaper for each workspace?
View 6 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to have a different workspace per monitor? At the moment I am using open-source ATI drivers and configures the dual monitors under the display section. x-tile doesn't really work properly with dual screens and I wondered if a different workspace per monitor might help? Either way I'd still like a different workspace per monitor and it is more handy. I can't be bothered with pinning eclipse to each workspace, but that is a workaround. I might go back to xmonad but I can't use it when gnome-shell is shipped in 10.10

I believe these are bugs or omissions.
When using the Workspace switcher you can no longer drag an application from one screen (workspace) to another. I like to use 8 different screens to avoid clutter.
You also were allowed on the Preferences menu to change the default name of the workspace from "workspace 1" to just "1".
Before Maverick you could hover the mouse over a workspace and the name would appear. Now the only things that appears is workspace 1 without regard for whatever workspace you are on.
To me an omission of a necessary or important feature is a Bug. If this was done by design than it is a design bug.
As the caption says I wonder If there's a way to set a default workspace, I mean for when I boot my PC to be in a determined workspace.

I mean can I set up different Icons on the desktop of each workspace in KDE? Seems that a mirror image of each workspace is a waste. What do I need four identical workspaces for?I want 4,5, or 6 different ones for different types of tasks. No I don't care so much about wall paper.

Is there an equivalent for GNOME/Compiz? I would preferably like to avoid using anything like Devilspie.
I am not able to click CTRL+ALT+Left/Right when I'm playing games in full-screen.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I move a window from one workspace to another, the window position relative to the workspace does not stay the same. It ends up being lower by what appears to be the height of the top panel bar. It's as if the position is calculated by adding the panel bar height, without having first subtracted the panel bar height in the current workspace to make it consistent.
View 2 Replies View Relatedhow to switch to a workspace from the terminal? This may seem incredibly silly and may last less than a day in my virtualbox I use for web development, but I want to create a couple Desktop "launchers" to specific workspaces that I can resize the icon big on the desktop.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've been using Natty(unity as desktop) since the beta now and it is really growing on me except for the workspaces. Is there a way to see what workspace I am on? *When typing I usually switch with ctrl-alt-"left/right/up/down" but after some work i don't always know what desktop i am one so switching is usually trial and error jumping from desktop to desktop or pressing super-s to get an overview. Seeing which desktop I'm on (maybe in the unity workspace button) would help with that.
*When just using the mouse I used to click on the workspace launcher and I would be on the desktop of my choice in one click but now I need to click on the switcher, identify where I am and where I need to go and it breaks the flow of fast switching, its no advantage anymore compared to just opening all programs on 1 workspace and using super-w I guess there are upcoming changes on the switcher as unity is still in its infancy so is there a way to put the old switcher in the top panel again?
I have just did some recent updates and when i did that, i wanted to have the full effect of the updates.Once i restarted, It came up with a black screen, had a couple of windows open(because i had them open before.) All i can do is enter windows, I am on Kubuntu 9.10. There is some blocked updates and one is Kubuntu-Desktop. But i can't get it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedJust installed most recent 64-bit Lucid RC last night and after fiddling around through Compiz, I cannot figure out how to drag an open program over to the next desktop workspace.
I use 4-workspaces (4x1) and while running 9.10, I could grab the title bar of an open program and drag it from workspace 1 to 2 or 3.
Now I can right click the title bar then move to another workspace or drag the program halfway into the next work space '2', then click over to workspace '2' and complete the move. But I would like to be able to completely drag it over again.
How is this accomplished?
On the window menu there are two options-Move window to Workspace Left&-Move window to Workspace RightThese commands move the window to an adjacent workspace without changing theactive worksapce. I cannot however find anywhere to set hotkeys for this. Check what command that actually runsorb. Tell me where I can setup a hotkey for that
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using ubuntu 10.04 and opensuse 11.3. I would like to know how to assign each application to a specific worksapce. For example, when I open a pdf file, it will be moved to workspace2. When I open a movie, it will be moved to workspace3. In Leopard, "Space" have such features. I would like to know the way to achieve this in ubuntu and opensuse, in an easy way, meaning that just need to install a small package, not a big one , like compiz
View 1 Replies View RelatedOccasionally my theme changes from Air back to Oxygen or another theme I had installed (using 10.04). I'm not sure why it does this. So I would like to know how to delete/uninstall a theme. I'm using the System Settings gui under the Appearance menu in KDE. There is a button to install new themes, and I can choose a different theme by clicking on it, but I would like to permanently remove a couple themes I have installed.
In case anyone else has seen themes randomly change from Air back to Oxygen, that is another discussion I would be interested in.
