Ubuntu :: Keyboard Shortcut (Move Window To Workspace X) Not Working

May 12, 2011

On my main PC (10.04) I have Alt+1,Alt+2 etc configured to jump to that specific workspace and ctrl+Alt+1,ctrl+alt+2 etc to move the focused window to the specific workspace and it works fine. Trying to replicate that on my netbook (11.04/unity) however fails. I can set the keyboard shortcuts up to switch to different workspaces but the shortcuts to move a window to a specific workspace just dont seem to work. The default RSI inducing default ctrl+shift+alt+(up,down,left & right) to move a window to an adjacent workspace does however. Is this specific to my install? If not how do i file a bug report?

Fedora :: Switching Workspace Freezes Desktop

Sep 3, 2009

I have 2 workspaces and when i switch to the 2nd one (either with Ctrl-Alt-Left or by clicking with the mouse) after loging in, the desktop freezes. I have to do a Ctrl-Alt-Backspace to kill the xserver and log in again. Removing the workspace switcher and adding it again does not solve the problem. And I can't find any message in the logs.

OpenSUSE Install :: Gnome Panel Disappears When Switching To Another Workspace

Jul 16, 2010

Linux 2.6.34-12-desktop x86_64
Gnome desktop

I updated from v11.2. to v11.3.I have 4 workspaces defined. The Gnome panel shows only in the first workspace! When I switch to another one, the panel disappears. As you may imagine, this is rather inconvenient. Once I am in another workspace other than 1, my only option is to reboot since there is no way to navigate anywhere. How do I set up the Gnome panel to show in all workspaces?

Ubuntu :: Move The Window Control Buttons When The Window Is In Full Screen Mode?

May 3, 2011

How do I move the Window control buttons when the window is in full screen mode? I.e.: I know how to go into gconf-editor:

Code:
gconf-editor --> apps --> metacity --> general --> button layout = ":minimize,maximize,close"
(I've intentionally disabled the menu...)

What I want is my window controls to be on the right side of the window when the window is in full screen mode.

Also I've had an issue with the Unity dockbar glitching out. I can still click on the buttons (i.e. the logout button) but it displays like a nintendo game inserted crooked. Is there a way to 'restart' unity without log out/ log in?

Any one else experienced any glitches with unity auto hiding/showing?

Ubuntu :: Open A Window In A Particular Workspace?

I want to run Evolution at starup, but want to place it out of the way on the opposite side of the Compiz cube. In KDE, you can run a command like this:

Code:

kstart --desktop 3 evolution

Is there an equivalent for GNOME/Compiz? I would preferably like to avoid using anything like Devilspie.

Ubuntu :: Moving Window To Another Workspace

Jan 11, 2011

When I move a window from one workspace to another, the window position relative to the workspace does not stay the same. It ends up being lower by what appears to be the height of the top panel bar. It's as if the position is calculated by adding the panel bar height, without having first subtracted the panel bar height in the current workspace to make it consistent.

Ubuntu :: Window Managers Support For Workspace Per Screen

Dec 29, 2010

As the title says I am looking for window managers that support having a workspace per screen. Now I'm not talking xrandr, twinview, xinerma or anything. I don't think this feature is possible with metacity. Most tiling window managers are like this and I love it, it makes things so much more efficient.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Switching From Window To Another Not Fast

Mar 31, 2011

I've installed OpenSUSE 11.4 / KDE on a self assembled PC based on the ASRock P4i945GC motherboard that hosts the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 which is inside the 945G Express Chipset. The graphics performance seems not so good, in fact:

- at KDE start, a message appears saying that desktop effects are slow and are being switched off;
- switching from a window to another is not fast;
- nexuiz (3D game) at 800x600 resolution with all effects turned off is orribly slow;
- glxgears runs at 50 FPS;

I made a comparison with OpenSUSE 11.2 Live KDE where:

- desktop effects are active and smooth;
- tab switching is faster;
- glxgears runs at 200 FPS;

I'm not so skilled in linux to understand which video driver is used in the two cases. find the best video driver and eventually install it in place of the current one in 11.4. Here follows an excerpt from lspci on 11.4:

Slackware :: Compiz-fusion Window Focus Not Properly Switching?

I'm hoping that this is a stupid question with a very simple answer that I just can't find.I've been playing around with compiz-fusion on -current64. When I have two windows open, if I close the top, active window, I would expect that the next window in the stack would receive the focus. However, it does not. I have to alt-tab to it or click it with the mouse.

Ubuntu :: Applications Jump From Their Workspace To The Current Workspace

Jul 20, 2011

I believe I may have found a bug in Unity. Under the right circumstances an application will jump from the workspace where I left them to my current workspace. This is most noticeable with VirtualBox. I built an Ubuntu 11.04 virtual machine so that I could test out new packages before I push them out to the rest of my machines. But the window for the virtual machine constantly appears in my current workspace. It may take a few minutes, or 30 minutes, but it will happen.

I can kind of understand it if a new window appears, but at least with VirtualBox, this happens on a running virtual machine seemingly randomly.

Ubuntu :: Clicking Does Not Move Window To Front

May 25, 2010

I have two windows A and B open unmaximized such that their area overlaps with A in front. If I click window B it gets the focus as I expect, but window A stays on top of it. All my keyboard events get sent to window B correctly, but I need to click on the title bar for it to appear on top of window A. Switching windows using Alt+TAB or taskbar click works as I expect - window B will appear on top. I encountered this in 10.4, not sure if it was there before or I only noticed it now. Is this a bug or some setting somewhere I need to adjust?
