Jan 23, 2010I am using opera 10.10 built 4742 i686 version. My proble is when i change to other workspace and then go back to opera, sometime, it will have the typing problem (at search bar and address bar). Need to roll it up and then roll it down before can type again. I am using Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit with latest updated.
However, the opera (same version and get from the same source: [URL]) does not have the same problem on Linux Mint 8 (dual-boot with ubuntu 9.10). As i know Linux Mint 8 is based on ubuntu 9.10.
Ubuntu :: Fullscreen Flash Crashes When Try To Change Volume?
Nov 5, 2010I just did a fresh install of ubuntu 10.10 after having been on windows again for a few years. It's not coming back as easily as I'd like.Anyways right after the install I noticed flash crashed when I tried to enter fullscreen. To fix this, I deselected hardware acceleration (per some other post on here, sorry can't remember to give credit).Now when I'm in full screen, it freezes the video if I try to change my volume level. Sound continues to play but the video doesn't move and I can't exit fullscreen or bring up the player bar at the bottom of the screen.I think this has more to do with the volume indicator coming up than the fact that the volume is changing i.e. anything that popped up like that would cause the problem.

Jul 20, 2011I believe I may have found a bug in Unity. Under the right circumstances an application will jump from the workspace where I left them to my current workspace. This is most noticeable with VirtualBox. I built an Ubuntu 11.04 virtual machine so that I could test out new packages before I push them out to the rest of my machines. But the window for the virtual machine constantly appears in my current workspace. It may take a few minutes, or 30 minutes, but it will happen.
I can kind of understand it if a new window appears, but at least with VirtualBox, this happens on a running virtual machine seemingly randomly.

Mar 31, 2011Is there any way to have workspaces on multiple rows without the workspace switcher added to a panel? I have limited screen space so i want to try and remove any unnecessary items. I have tried using a drawer, but the workspace application is not loaded until the drawer is opened once. Also note I am not running compiz as the computer is a netbook.

This did not occur on F12 prior to upgrading to F13.The app itself seems to have not noticed it was resized; on checking its configuration panel it seems to still think it's running full screen.What I want to know is whether the problem is in Wine, the video driver, or the window manager, or somewhere else, so that I can report it to the right people (or just fix it).

At the moment I am using open-source ATI drivers and configures the dual monitors under the display section. x-tile doesn't really work properly with dual screens and I wondered if a different workspace per monitor might help? Either way I'd still like a different workspace per monitor and it is more handy. I can't be bothered with pinning eclipse to each workspace, but that is a workaround. I might go back to xmonad but I can't use it when gnome-shell is shipped in 10.10

I believe these are bugs or omissions.
When using the Workspace switcher you can no longer drag an application from one screen (workspace) to another. I like to use 8 different screens to avoid clutter.
You also were allowed on the Preferences menu to change the default name of the workspace from "workspace 1" to just "1".
Before Maverick you could hover the mouse over a workspace and the name would appear. Now the only things that appears is workspace 1 without regard for whatever workspace you are on.
To me an omission of a necessary or important feature is a Bug. If this was done by design than it is a design bug.

It ends up being lower by what appears to be the height of the top panel bar. It's as if the position is calculated by adding the panel bar height, without having first subtracted the panel bar height in the current workspace to make it consistent.

May 2, 2011I've been using Natty(unity as desktop) since the beta now and it is really growing on me except for the workspaces. Is there a way to see what workspace I am on? *When typing I usually switch with ctrl-alt-"left/right/up/down" but after some work i don't always know what desktop i am one so switching is usually trial and error jumping from desktop to desktop or pressing super-s to get an overview. Seeing which desktop I'm on (maybe in the unity workspace button) would help with that.
*When just using the mouse I used to click on the workspace launcher and I would be on the desktop of my choice in one click but now I need to click on the switcher, identify where I am and where I need to go and it breaks the flow of fast switching, its no advantage anymore compared to just opening all programs on 1 workspace and using super-w I guess there are upcoming changes on the switcher as unity is still in its infancy so is there a way to put the old switcher in the top panel again?

Apr 27, 2010Just installed most recent 64-bit Lucid RC last night and after fiddling around through Compiz, I cannot figure out how to drag an open program over to the next desktop workspace.
I use 4-workspaces (4x1) and while running 9.10, I could grab the title bar of an open program and drag it from workspace 1 to 2 or 3.
Now I can right click the title bar then move to another workspace or drag the program halfway into the next work space '2', then click over to workspace '2' and complete the move. But I would like to be able to completely drag it over again.
How is this accomplished?

Aug 3, 2010Occasionally my theme changes from Air back to Oxygen or another theme I had installed (using 10.04). I'm not sure why it does this. So I would like to know how to delete/uninstall a theme. I'm using the System Settings gui under the Appearance menu in KDE. There is a button to install new themes, and I can choose a different theme by clicking on it, but I would like to permanently remove a couple themes I have installed.
In case anyone else has seen themes randomly change from Air back to Oxygen, that is another discussion I would be interested in.

Feb 5, 2011I am heavily using remote X11 via ssh (from Ubuntu to Ubuntu).The method I am using is connecting with ssh -X and then running the X application I want to use.Most of the times this is adequate but some times I need to have a desktop view. Running gnome-session in the ssh session, produces a couple of errors (printer and other hardware related) which appears normal but at the end it works. The problem is that desktops end up mixed up with windows from all sessions together and the panels and menus from the last session.
What I am trying to achieve is to have each gnome session in a specific workspace. It will be easy using shortcuts like ctrl-super-right/left to move between different machines. Can something like that be achieved?I know the easy solution would be to vnc to all machines and maximize the vnc viewer in the desired workspace, but this would be really slow and against the linux way of thinking (as is trying to get the remote gnome desktop, but that is another story).Another solution would be to open the gnome panels in a titled window, so that I can see them all at once and distribute them across workspaces. But how do I do that?
