Feb 11, 2011OK I have a problem, well I think it's just ubuntu because this has done this in 9.04 and 10.04 and still in 10.10. When I go to drag and drop the music files from iPhone to my music folder, the files transfer, but they don't transfer with the name of the song. They get transferred with a name of 4 digits like this "BVFG.MP3" (example).
I am not going to go through all 1,200 of my songs and rename them one by one that's ridiculous.
Here's a screen shot. That is actually More by Usher, but it doesn't say Usher obviously.

Jun 4, 2010Since we both run ubuntu, we've run into some problems; we can't get any music on the iPhone. I've installed ifuse and can browse the contents but i cannot transfer any music in a way that the iPhone frecognizes it and is able to play it. I've seen a couple of comprehensive (very long) guides to sync iphone wireless w ubuntu, however im only interested in connecting the iPhone with usb and copy music to it is there any quick/easy way to do this? (Rhytmbox is compatible w iphone it seems, it recognizes it as an iPod but cant sync)

Oct 21, 2010I have a rather strange problem and it surfaced just recently. Most likely it has something to do with switching from Ubuntu 10.04 to Ubuntu 10.10.
When I upload music to my iPhone 3gs with iOS 3.1.3 (7E1 it shows in iTunes, however the phone skips over the music. This does not happen to songs I uploaded via rhythmbox two weeks ago.
For a test purposes I deleted the old songs from the iPhone and tried to put them on again. Now I cannot listen to them as well. At least I know it has nothing to do with the used mp3 coding.
I even can use the iPhone as a harddrive for that music and play music from their through rhythmbox.
The song list shows the right sizes on the iPhone.
It is save to say that the data is transfered and the music database is updated. So there must be a strange error in detecting the length of the songs which would point to a problem in updating the iPhone database. However, I cannot be sure, because the phone is not reporting any errors.

Jun 22, 2011Iphone 4.2.6 and ubuntu. I have upgraded to natty and have Banshee running and am able to mount my iphone and see my files etc in a file browser. I can even see my music on the iphone inside Banshee. It lets me copy music from my machine to the iphone but never shows up on the ipod on the iphone. I can browse the folders and find the music but its saved as libgpodxxxxx.mp3. The xs are numbers. They are all in folders on the iphone called itunes_controlmusicfxx where x again are numbers. They play fine from the iphone if you highlight them in the file manager or in banshee.

Jul 4, 2010So I've seen all the buzz about the new libimobiledevice supporting iphone well enough to get it working with rhytmbox "out of the box".
I've achieved photo sync, internet tethering, and ssh access, but I don't know about music access.. there doesn't seem to be anything happening between rhythmbox and the iphone.
Rhythmbox regocnizes the phone and plays the music on it... but I can't seem to make any changes to that music.
The phone occasionally says "sync in progress" but I haven't pushed any "sync" button as there doesn't seem to be any or any settings for automatic syncing...

Using Blueman I am unable to pair the two devices. The iPhone 4 shows up and I am prompted to pair either with a random passkey or a custom one. The problem is, the passkeys don't match. For instance, if I enter 1234 as the custom passkey - a random 6-digit number is displayed on the iPhone!
Is it possible to pair 10.04 with the iPhone 4? I wish to use bluetooth tethering...

Nov 10, 2010My iPhone is recognized by Rhthymbox, but not Amarok. When I plug in my iPhone to my laptop via usb, the mount icon appears on the desktop. I can start up Rhthymbox and that program recognizes the iPhone no problem. However, when I start up Amarok, not only does it not recognize the device, but it also REMOVES the mount icon from the desktop. If I start up Rhthymbox again, the device is unrecognized. I have the unplug the iPhone and then plug it back it for the mount icon to come back.
I am running ubuntu 10.10. iPhone 3G with firmware 3.1.2. Amarok 2.3.1
Not sure if it makes a difference or not, but I jail broke this iPhone about 6 months ago, or whenever they came out with firmware 3.1.2, as I have not updated the firmware since.
I just want to get my tunes going on my newly installed ubuntu linux...

I can't get my 1st gen iphone (3.1.3) to mount. It is however recognized from the cli Bus 001 Device 002: ID 05ac:1290 Apple, Inc. iPhone what should i do? I have a partition of mac os x 10.4.11 installed which also doesn't recognize the device (leopard is required).
I have all the modules and mobile device libraries installed from ubunutu software center but still I can't get it to mount. Are there any commands i should try? I'm still a complete novice at the command line.

Jul 25, 2011I've successfully jailbroken my girlfriend's iPhone 3gs.
The phone had no service. She switched to a cheap local-only carrier which did not do iPhones, so her current phone is a cheap blister pack phone.
Now she wants to put the iPhone on T-Mobile. The T-Mobile guys want it jailbroken and unlocked first. I got it jailbroken by tethering it. Now I need 2 apps on there and I have no service so I can't get them there.
Repeat, this is NOT the NO SERVICE bug that happens when you switch service on an otherwise active phone. The contract has been expired for months, so there is no fix for it.
I have joined my wireless N network, but to no avail.
I have at my disposal a Mac, an Ubuntu box and a Vista box.
I also tried jailbreaking my iphone but its firmware is too new and it won't break. Maybe tomorrow. I thought maybe I could break mine, download some apps, transfer them to some PC and then move them to the GFs phone. That didn't work either.

Jul 3, 2011When my Iphone had the 4.2.1 firmware it mounted just fine with Ubuntu, OK sure it took a download of libimobiledevice1 and some other libraries but it worked, and sync'd just fine with Rhythmbox. But, as all manufacturers do, they have released a superior new OS for the phone which fixes all those annoying little bug. I have read from 4.3.2 they changed the itunes database version to an updated one. Now this is fine if you have a windows or mac machine running the latest version of itunes but if like all of us here you have an Ubuntu machine for a very valid reason... i.e you wanted a better operating system that wasnt going to cost the earth.
well, you are screwed as they have locked the third part access to the device's itunes library. I have followed long procedures trying to hack into the phone, modifying certain files, creating a hashfile and dropping this into a system folder to fool the phone into thinking it has the 4.2.1 database still but to no avail. Now my iphone is jailbroken, for the very same reasons as to why have an ubuntu machine, a good peice of hardware with good software that i can customise to run how i see fit, this error is the same with my friends non jaibroken phone and my wifes newly updated iopd..
Surely someone out there who has an ipod, iphone 3gs who are running 4.3.2 or higher has figured out how to fix this annoying "update" problem. The phone mounts fine and i can see a documents drive and the main iphone itself, so it is being recognised but im getting errors when trying ti access the phone in ANY linux media software... They all see the phone but cant recognise the database.

Jun 5, 2010My PPC iMac G3, 600 MHz, 768 MB ram machine (blue box) machine has 16 MB video ram and 256 MB backside L2 cache. When I insert a music CD, it doesn't seem to recognize it. Nor does an icon appear on the screen indicating that I loaded a disk. When I insert a movie, Lucid waits a moment, spins the disk, then ejects it after about 60 sec. Data disks act similarly, but no ejection. Disk spins momentarily, no icon appears on desktop, disk does not eject, No further action.

Jan 22, 2010I have a Macbook Pro 5,5 with Ubuntu 9.10 installed using rEFIt. When I mount the Macintosh HD in Ubuntu, I am unable to access any of the folders under Users, except Public. I tried changing the permissions in OSX, setting "Read and Write" for "Everyone" on a couple of folders, and, when I log back into Ubuntu, I can see that those are the permissions for the folder, but Ubuntu still tells me that I do not have permission to access the folder. I've tried setting the folder to share, thinking that this must be the reason that I can access Public with no problems, but it didn't work.
I've browsed the internet extensively, and the only thread I could find related to the issue was by someone who had the exact same problem as me (I don't know if they had the same macbook though), and it was never solved (the only advice given was to either change the Ubuntu user number, or change the permissions of the folder).
