I have accidentally set my default option for a blank disc and told it not to ask me again. When I put a disc in, it runs that option and I can do nothing else unless I open up a different program manually. How do I access and edit this option again?
View 2 RepliesI did a fresh install of 10.04 a couple of weeks ago, and all seemed well, but lately when I double-click on, say, an OpenOffice (.odt) file in Nautilus, I get the following message:The file '/home/zerubbabel/Documents/Teachings/Queue/2010.05.15-A02.odt' is not marked as executable. If this was downloaded or copied form an untrusted source, it may be dangerous to run. For more details, read about the executable bit.(The pop-up window title reads: "Blocked: wine start /unix"). I've repeatedly set the "Open with..." and checked "Remember this application...", but it doesn't "stick".

I installed privoxy and tor and chained them from squid so it looks like this: iceweasel >> squid >> privoxy >> tor. All is working well except when I go to edit my privoxy default.action file I get a fatal error. I've got version 3.0.9-1 The original line in the newly installed default.action file. #+hide-referer{forge}
I edited it by simply removing the #. +hide-referer{forge} Then:su -c '/etc/init.d/privoxy force-reload'And I get this in the logfile.Sep 14 16:41:36.260 Privoxy(7f4fa64756e0) Fatal error: can't load actions file '/etc/privoxy/default.action': first needed line (361) is invalid: +hide-referer{forge} I've even copy/pasted from the manual and to no avail.Have I been looking at to much text for the last two days?What am I missing?
I'm running ubuntu 9.10 and I'm having difficulty with my Sony DRU-540a & burning CDs. No matter what, every disc I put in is unwritable. In Brassaro it says:
There is No Recordable Disc Inserted
So I tried Nero & that also said there was no recordable disc. I know these discs are blank, I just bought them yesterday. They're the same type of disc I used before switching permanently to ubuntu. When trying to play an audio cd with VLC I get the following error:
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'cdda:///dev/sr0'. Check the log for details.
I installed ubuntu with this drive, why can't ubuntu read it?
I've been trying to burn a windows 7 iso to a blank disc in ubuntu.
I've tried right click-write to disk, it writes it but the disc won't boot and when I look inside the disc there's no files present.
I tried doing it with cd creator and it gives me some messages like.
"Do you want to create a disc from the contents of the image or with the image file inside?"
"There is only one selected file
("xxxxxx.iso") It is the image of a disc and its contents can be burnt."
I click "burn as file"
Then I get a message saying "Do you really want to add "xxxxxx.iso to the selection and use the version of ISO9660 standard to support it"?
"the size of the file is over 2gb. Files larger than 2gb are not supported by iso9660 standard in its first and second versions. it is recommended to use the third version of iso9660 standard which is supported by most operating systems including linux and all versions of windows."
I click add file.
Then it starts "estimating the file size" It says please wait untill this operation is completed, but it never does, I left it for 2 hours.
I also tried burning with infra record in windows and get some error messages, and I also tried brasero in ubuntu with no success.
I want to burn a 110MB iso image. When I right-click the file, select "Write to Disc" I got a popup saying: "Blank-CD-R: not enough free space". The same thing occurs with Brasero. The CD-R disc is blank, and I used the same drive unit to burn CDs and DVDs in the past.

I've gone though every Dolphin option I can find, and there does not appear to be any setting that affect this. Konqueror DOES have a setting, but it seems to be ignored. I am running Suse 11.3, KDE 4.4.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to burn an ISO to a blank DVD with Brasero Disc Burner, but every time I try, it gets at around 93% done, then gives me:
"The disc could not be ejected, though it needs to be removed for the current operation to continue"
I have attached a screenshot of the error. And this is not my error screenshot, I have a different DVD Drive. I just attached this one because I didn't want to wait for it to give me an error again so I could take my own screenshot.
Does anybody know why this happens? Or a way to fix it? Or a different software to burn ISO to DVD that is as simple as this one.

I've ran into something rather odd. I've installed wine and Office 2007. If I am to open a office 2003 (doc) or office 2007 (docx) file, it will open wine and office 2007 to edit the file. This is the desired behaviour. If I am to open an office 2003 (doc) file in firefox, openoffice will be opened. If I am to do the same with an office 2007 (docx) file, wine and office 2007 will open.where to start to get wine/office 2007 to open files from firefox?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've tried to install 9.10 on my PowerBook G3, with both a CD and DVD. However, the system shows a folder with a question mark and boots into the default OS 8.6. I even tried with an older ubuntu disc (8 point something) that had worked on another computer, but this didn't work either. I know the computer can boot from the CD drive, as it works with my OS X 10.4 DVD.

The long and the short of it is that I'm getting a blank screen at login time. I suspect it's a driver issue (I have an Nvidia card) and it shouldn't be hard to fix... but I need a console. And no, I can't get in via Grub... my main OS is Slackware and Lilo is controlling the bootloader. So I need to be able to change the runlevel, and thus far a Google search has proved unenlightening.
this blew my mind today, because i've been using ubuntu for 2 and half years. Brasero 2.28.2 in Karmic does not have an option enable multisessions when burning disc or import a disc which has a multisession.
Seriously, wtf is going on? This is supposed to be Ubuntu's default CD authoring software.
I'm trying to install files and everytime I manage to install from the first disc I succeed. When I get the the second disc I just keep clicking the "OK" button instead of "Cancel" and it keeps neglecting it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just installed 11.3 x64. The installation went fine and worked for the first few hours. I ran the online update tool, and now it cannot find grub unless the installation disc is inserted and I select the "boot from hard disc" option.
I have read about the problem of the root partition being back, but not sure that's it.

sda2 - /
sda3 - /home
There used to be a repair tool in the installation disks. I could not find that in this media. Is that still available?
I'm sorry for this stupid question, but I have nowhere found it.I need to access to my USB disc from text mode (In Fedora LiveCD I see it and i can access /media/New Volume). In F12 runlevel 3 in mc I see it in /dev/disc/by-label as @Newx20Volume. But I don't know what is the correct path.

But all the latest releases after FC7 is not detecting my Hard disk. Is there any solution to solve this problem? Actually I'm searching for a solution when the FC8 released. Does anyone know how I can use the rar command to extract and have the password echoed (appear on the screen as I type it)?
When i use my computer (whether it's going online, typing, playing a flash game, or coding) I get these "Black Flashes" that are becoming longer and more frequent. A "Black Flash" is when my computer screen turns blank (but you can still see the backlight) and i have to press the NUMpad ENTER button, shake my mouse furiously, or click my mouse, which sometimes causes undesired actions, but gets me my screen back. sometimes the Black Flashes last a milisecond or 5 seconds or i have to hold the power button and restart because it won't come back on.

I would like to be able to enter codes. I have pressed ctrl alt f5, 6 etc and get to the black screen which asks for username and password. I enter the username and password that I use to log in, but I keep getting the message telling me that they are not correct.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am new to Ubuntu and been trying to download some software not in the Software centre but when I go to terminal and I enter the command text I get prompted for my password ( it automatically has my login name) but the flashing cursor will not allow me to enter any text ,it just keeps on flashing but then it tells me I have entered incorrect password, What can be the problem ? The keys are not connecting with the terminal window it appears.

I've installed Karmic after having used Jaunty in the past and it's working great, but I have a couple of security questions...
I opened the Disc Utility (Palimpsest) under System>Administration and was amazed that it looks like it will let me delete partitions on my hard drive, and without even asking for a password. This seems like an enormous security oversight, what am I missing here? Is there a bug filed for this?
Also related, why does Ubuntu allow a user to disable startup applications without requiring a password?
I am experiencing a 5-10 minute delay when trying to ssh into my ubuntu server.

I've tried using the option UseDNS No in my my sshd_Config but to no success. I've tried reinstalling ubuntu fresh, but still it hangs upon trying to ssh from any machine. I am running Ubuntu 9.10 server.
Two machines with Lucid installed last week, both installed with the same standard settings. One machine can see the network and both itself and the other machine, the other PC cannot see the first machine or itself. In the Network window all I get is a folder saying 'Windows Network' and clicking that ticks away for a minute or so before saying error, cannot connect to it.
On both machines I have created a shared folder on the desktop to trigger an installation of samba shares which has happened.I cannot connect to the other PC by entering its IP address into location either.
Whenever I hit this letter, it opens my home folder since upgrade to 11.04 Sorry if this is a repeat... not sure how to search for problem without using the letter.
