Tinking around and found "likewise-open-server" as an installable package. I installed it, but cannot find it anywhere in gnome. Anybody know what this package does? How to use it? I googled it but can't find much.
View 1 RepliesI was attempting to install the package 'gnustep-devel', but the package 'gorm.app' which gnustep-devel depends on is not available. I've checked in Synaptic's Settings->Repositories and I have all repositories enabled, and the package is available via a Debian repository... I'm pretty sure that there's a better place to report it than here, but I don't know where that is.

I can authenticate with Active Directory credentials, but it seems to hang when I log in. I can press Ctrl-C and break out of the hang, but was interested to see what was causing the behavior. I noticed lsassd was taking up about 99% of CPU while in this hung state. I then did a

tail -f /var/log/syslog and discovered lsassd was doing some type of query for what appeared to by every user in our Active Directory as I saw hundreds of entries like this being added to the syslog:

Is there some setting I can change so it doesn't do this?
I'm having a bit of a struggle here. I recently installed likewise-open 6 to logon to my company domain.
All is working fine but one thing, the gnome-terminal autocomplete function.
All that the terminal shows is a "$" sign and nothing else. When I type in a part of a word and press "TAB" it registers as a tab and does not show the autocomplete options that I normally have. it's very annoying to type a long sentence every time.
I have installed likewise-open to authenticate on Active Directory and pam_mount for mounting folders.

I'm having trouble installing likewise open through preseed.I'v used the example from https://help.ubuntu.com/10.04/instal...le-preseed.txt as the source of my preseed file.It works just fine installing openssh, smbfs and libpam-mount. Se the code below. But if I try adding likewise to the code below installation stops when the likewise package is starting to install.Quote:

Is redhat satellite an installable rpm package. does it only come on RHEL5 Advance server or can it be installed on RHEL5 or RHEL 4 server. i am asking this becuase i would like to learn how to use Redhat Satellite.

The reason being is that my router is assigning internal ip's and dyndns is linked to that. I need port 80 for the Apache server, but if I have the router forward that port to my particular ip, won't it screw with everyone else's internet too?

trying to set up a very minimal X on my 10.04 64 bit version of Ubuntu running nothing but Open SSH and acting as a firewall/router, making a PPP connection. The reason, is that I want to set up KVM/Qemu and run a virtual machine. The virtual machine will have a graphical environment and will be connected to my TV so that I can watch movies, stream TV etc. using it. So far, I have done the following:

When I try to run miwm the error message is:

I have no DISPLAY variable set, but even when I set one myself using export DISPLAY=:0.0 it makes no difference.
I've setup an openldap server, and am trying to add .ldif files to the database.

I'm trying to install some nvidia drivers but I need to install the correct headers. uname -r says: 2.6.31-21-serverbut I can't find the headers anywhere to install. 2.6.31-21 and 2.6.31-21-generic are installed but not the server version. It's not showing up in synaptic and using apt-get I get the error message in the title.I have 2.6.31-22-server headers but for some reason when I boot into 2.6.31-22 the OS can't see my 3ware cards and, obviously, the arrays they control. So, I can't use 2.6.31-22 yet.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded from Maverick to Natty. The upgrade process went fine and I am able to log in to Natty and use my computer fine.
However, during the installation there was an error upgrading likewise-open from 5.0.xx to 6.0.xx. I thought perhaps removing likewise-open 5.0.xx and installing 6.0.xx (instead of upgrading) may fix the problem.

After a long time I tried ubuntu(9.10) again on my fileserver, I have some remarks; why does a minimal server installation include X/openoffice? I don't need document conversion on a fileserver and I bet a lot of people don't. Wouldn't it be better to create a new server package and leave minimal minimal? low memory installs (64mb) don't work unless you configure swap by hand in between things, 64mb ram is a lot in my eyes. I mean, not to be rude but if I wanted all this I could've better installed Solaris.
That said it's stable and running fine. Since it's my home fileserver I tried to convert my previously created raid10 mirror on an adaptec 1200 card to a softraid 5 solution. This is wat I did:

in searching i never found an article that got it just right. so here it is tried and true..
1. I usually start out assigning myself a static ip address. this is not needed to join but its something I always do.
2. next i set my dns settings in resolve.conf to my local dns server
3. download likewise "apt-get install likewise-open"
4. for kerberos i just leave it blank
5. go to your nsswitch.conf file located in /etc/ and set the hosts to only files and dns
6. now you should stop your networking and start it again so that the dns changes take effect.
7. you are now ready to try and join your domain. "domainjoin-cli join fqdn.of.yourdomain administrator" you can substitute administrator with any admin account
you should now be joined to your domain for adding sudo rights to the "administrator" membership
1. open your sudoers file located in /etc/
2. the following line to the bottom of the file "%DOMAIN\administrators ALL=(ALL) ALL" replace DOMAIN with your domain name. do not use your fqdn. all set. hope you enjoy

Error: Lsass Error [code 0x00080047] 9502 (0x251E) DNS_ERROR_BAD_PACKET - A bad packet was received from a DNS server. Potentially the requested address does not exist. I have already read up on this a little bit. Both servers are within a minute of each other, so I am not concerned about server timing. I am not sure where to go from this point. Everything I have read seems to indicate that this should "just work".
I have installed Ubuntu and I make all the configurations in order to have it like I want it....My question..... Can I make an iso file somehow (cd/Dvd) of my system with all the configurations, all theservers, all the custom thinks and the home folder's content in order to have it as backup (quick installable backup) and in case of a damage to install from cd/dvd again and everything is in place?

Does Ubuntu have the equivalent of a Windows .exe self-installable file? If so, what is it called? I seem to remember installing LimeWire on Ubuntu a while back and the file I downloaded was self-installable. Is there a place where Ubuntu programs are available for download as packages that install themselves?Why are most programs for Linux not self-installable, like .exe installers in Windows? Is there a security advantage to most programs not being available for download a single automatic install file? It would be much easier for me to go to a program's website, download a single file that installs by itself, and be done with it.
Also, why is it that, unless you install a program in Ubuntu using synaptic package manager, the program cannot be uninstalled under GUI? I would like a new linux distro. I've been using ubuntu for like 2 years or more and I'm just done with it. Some things that I want out of the new distro are:

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am running Ubuntu 10.04 and WINE 1.2. WineHQ APPDB states that Rosetta Stone is not installable. I have installed it, so the information there is not correct/complete. When I installed, it ran perfectly. I created an ISO of the install disc and the first lesson. I then loop mounted each of them in turn for them to run and assigned each of them a windows directory, configuring them as CD-ROM. This worked perfectly the first day. Now it no longer works with the ISO or with the original disc. I have run the program in terminal and received the following output:

I have seen similar outputs on the forums, but nothing that included that AUDIO ERROR. This seems to be an issue of time. If I don't do anything, the program will crash giving me error 5118. If I run through lesson select and mic testing quickly then I can get all the way to the lesson before it crashes with the same error.
