Ubuntu Networking :: Likewise-open 5.4 Hangs On Login?

May 25, 2010

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 Server x86 64-bit and installed likewise-open, which I think is version 5.4. I can authenticate with Active Directory credentials, but it seems to hang when I log in. I can press Ctrl-C and break out of the hang, but was interested to see what was causing the behavior. I noticed lsassd was taking up about 99% of CPU while in this hung state. I then did a

Code:
tail -f /var/log/syslog and discovered lsassd was doing some type of query for what appeared to by every user in our Active Directory as I saw hundreds of entries like this being added to the syslog:

Code:
May 25 14:21:27 coe-web lsassd[1225]: 0x7f5bc72c1710:The user attributes in the cache data for 'domainjohndoe' are invalid. The cache database or user data in Active Directory could be corrupt.
Is there some setting I can change so it doesn't do this?

Ubuntu Networking :: Likewise Open Autocomplete Terminal?

Sep 7, 2010

I'm having a bit of a struggle here. I recently installed likewise-open 6 to logon to my company domain.
All is working fine but one thing, the gnome-terminal autocomplete function.

All that the terminal shows is a "$" sign and nothing else. When I type in a part of a word and press "TAB" it registers as a tab and does not show the autocomplete options that I normally have. it's very annoying to type a long sentence every time.

Fedora :: Pam_mount And 12 Umount Not Working?

Jan 19, 2010

I have a netbook I am setting up for our class (30 in all when I get it working). I had pam_mount working at creating the mount and unmounting with version 11, but I ran into some problem and am trying to reproduce the same results with Fedora 12. The only problem I seem to be having is the umount process. I dont even see pam_mount trying to unmount at logoff in the log. Here are the conf files that should be relevant. The part I am getting stuck on is there is no output in the message log and I have the exact same setup on a Fedora 11 setup and it works no problem.

Ubuntu Networking :: Likewise Join Domain And Port Memberships From AD

May 17, 2010

in searching i never found an article that got it just right. so here it is tried and true..

1. I usually start out assigning myself a static ip address. this is not needed to join but its something I always do.

2. next i set my dns settings in resolve.conf to my local dns server

3. download likewise "apt-get install likewise-open"

4. for kerberos i just leave it blank

5. go to your nsswitch.conf file located in /etc/ and set the hosts to only files and dns

6. now you should stop your networking and start it again so that the dns changes take effect.

7. you are now ready to try and join your domain. "domainjoin-cli join fqdn.of.yourdomain administrator" you can substitute administrator with any admin account

you should now be joined to your domain for adding sudo rights to the "administrator" membership

1. open your sudoers file located in /etc/
2. the following line to the bottom of the file "%DOMAIN\administrators ALL=(ALL) ALL" replace DOMAIN with your domain name. do not use your fqdn. all set. hope you enjoy

Fedora Networking :: Pam_mount Not Mapping Network Drives On Gnome User Login?

Nov 18, 2010

Have been configuring fedora 14 to connect to a windows domain server and have been successful so far....am now on mapping network drives when the user logs in via the gnome gui.

If there is a better method of mapping network drives on login

After reading up on PAM_MOUNT and using that for mapping drives on login I have been able to successfully map them, but it doesn't do this automatically on gnome login.

Problem is as follows: It works when i connect / login using the terminal but requires me to enter the password once (even when i logged into the user account on gnome).

How I want it to work:I would like the mapping to occur when i login via gnome so that i dont have to open a terminal once logged in to gnome to map the network drives. I would like it to login without having to type the password again as the user is already logged in

Config Files:

#--- ~/.pam_mount.conf.xml ---#
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<pam_mount>
<volume fstype="cifs" server="GRA.GI" path="apps" mountpoint="/mnt/GRA.GI/apps"/>

I have already read up on this a little bit. Both servers are within a minute of each other, so I am not concerned about server timing. I am not sure where to go from this point. Ubuntu Networking :: Ssh Not Working - Ports Not Open - Tcp Diallow For Lucid

May 7, 2010

I've installed a fresh copy of the latest 10.04 distro, lucid lynx and have problems connecting to the machine via ssh because the ports are all blocked (using nmap to check). In past releases, changing the gdm.conf flag "TCPDISALLOW" from true to false would fix this. In the new /etc/gdm/gdm.schemas, I've tried making a similar change, but it's still not opening things up. I've downloaded gufw and have made sure the firewall is off. So, I'm not sure what to try next.

Ubuntu Networking :: Nfs Locking Files - Cannot Open For Editing, Or Open Firefox / Thunderbird?

Dec 12, 2010

Server - Ubuntu 10.04.1 lts
Client - Kubuntu 10.10

When I try to open any nfs-mounted file using OpenOffice, I get a pop-up window titled "Document in Use". The text of the message is:

"Document file 'abcde.odt' is locked for editing by:

Unknown User

Open document read-only or open a copy of the document for editing." I then have three options - <Open Read-Only>, <Open Copy>, & <Cancel> If I cp any of these files from the mounted directory to my home dir (not mounted), I can open them without problem. Also, my firefox & thunderbird date are in this mounted directory as well (sym links to ~dan/.mozilla & ~dan/.thunderbird). Both of these apps hang when trying to open, leaving two processes behind that need to be manually killed. Again, cp'ing the data out of the nfs-mounted dir onto a local dir resolves the issue, so I am 100% confident there is nothing missing or corrupted in the firefox &/or thunderbird data...

relevant entry in /etc/fstab:
server:/nfs/dan/Documents /home/dan/Documents nfs defaults 0 0
relevant entry in server's /etc/exports:

SUSE :: Webcam Not Working With Open 11.3

Few months ago I had updated my OpenSuse 11.2 to new kernel but I broke it so never got to fix it. Now I've upgraded it to 11.3 and its working really well. Really happy with the KDE interface. Not missing Windows 7 at all (dual booting). I've got almost everything working and in fact got a lot more apps than Windows. For example 2 or 3 different versions of MSN Messenger!

I've got couple of minor issues. Firstly, my Logitech Webcam isn't getting detected by OpenSuse. When I open up the Cheese app it doesn't detect any cam.

Secondly, is there a Yahoo Messenger available for Linux? I've got some family/friends who use MSN and others Yahoo. I need webcam functionality in Yahoo Messenger.

Ubuntu :: Boot Options Whilst Working With Open Firmware

May 4, 2010

I am going to attempt to install Ubuntu Linux onto an 500GB USB external hard drive. I was wondering what my boot options where as i am installing on to a powermac G5 that uses open firmware. From the boot menu, i dont have the option to boot to USB(like i can from firewire, CD or Internal HD) though i have found this page;URl...this enables me to boot from usb and works fine with Mac Os X (as i had to do this to boot from a usb stick i installed the os on when doing a spot of data recovery) but i'm not sure if it would boot into linux cleanly. I'm also unsure as to wether in instalation i'd need to install yaboot or not, and if not wether this is actualy an option o n the install cd.

Any info on whether anybody had installed a similar system, had any experience installing onto open firmware for an external Usb hard drive booting system or just any general knowledge about linux on open firmware.

Basically it comes up OK, I get the MPlayer plugin splash screen and controls exactly as expected, it downloads the media successfully (or at least looks like it does) but then doesn't play, it just reports "Stopped".

Mplayer itself works fine, it's just the browser that doesn't.
