Software :: QPopper Not Accepting Mail From Local Domain?
Jan 20, 2011
I have QPopper and Sendmail setup on a Red Hat server, they both seem to be running ok and listening on usual pop and smtp ports 25 and 110.
QPopper is running through xinetd and the config file is as follows
Code:
service pop3
{
disable = no
flags = REUSE
socket_type = stream
wait = no
[Code].....
The problem is I get an error in the maillogs when trying to send mail from a PC on our local domain about the canonical client name which is to do with reverse dns. I understand this can be turned off at runtime of qpopper but nowhere seems to detail how to do this, apart from -R flag at runtime but as it is running through Xinetd I am not sure where to put it.
A few more details on the problem, if I VPN onto our network from my home desktop I can send mail fine. Receiving mail is also no problem, it is just sending. I have setup only our local domain in the access file for sendmail.

I installed a new server running CentOS 5.2. I have iptables and SELinux off. The new server will not accept incoming mail. It will send out fine.Our mail server redirects mail for it.help to it.[url]...- [url]....is this server. Any messages sent to this address get stuck in a deferred queue. The error message on each one (from the mail server admin console) is "connection to[url]... [10.9.10.202] - connection refused". I can ping [url].... from the mail server.
This seems like a firewall issue, but it is off. Is there some configuration file I need to change to allow incoming mail? Or is there some test I can run on the new server to further troubleshoot what is going on

Have tried to setup email aliases in sendmail so I can have multiple address pointing to one linux login. However none of the aliases seem to be accepting mail.
I get the following error message when trying to send to them.
I have tried restarting sendmail, have mapped the /etc/mail/virtusertable across to virtusertable.db with the following command.
Code:
Output of sendmail -bv is as follows and looks correct.
Code:
Have also added new domain into local-host-names file. I am stuck on what is left to check and why the messages are getting bounced back.

In the office there is a local network with samba+openldap PDC. The local domain name is company.net. The company desided to create a corporate Website on a remote hosting and desided that the site's domain should be company.net which is same as local network's domain name. So now it is not possible to reach that corporate website from within the company's local network because, as I guess, bind9 which is installed on above menioned PDC looks for company.net on a local webserver. Is there a possibility to let people from this local network browse the remote site?

I just added my login id to /etc/aliases to forward root's local e-mail to my local e-mail account in evolution.
As always, when I make a change to /etc/aliases, I run newaliases. I now get the following, and root's mail is not showing up in my local mail Inbox:
Code:
Is this correct?
I understand my hostname (i.e., Eng-Lab-010) is not a fully qualified host name, but I never had a problem before. But it appears this not a good thing. What should I do?

I cannot get exim4 to actually deliver any "local delivery only; not on a network".But whatever I do in the config, all mail gets frozen with entries in the log file like:"root@empty R=nonlocal: Mailing to remote domains not supported"Maybe the problem is that there is no fqdn for the computer (and will never be). How can I enable local mail delivery?

I have been able to use the mail program on my old Ubuntu instasll which I found quite handy. However, it isn't functioning "out of the box" like I expected. I've tried to configure it as mail was in Ubuntu to no avail.

I have two servers relavant here: mail.domain.com (1.1.1.1) - which is the nameserver and the mail server for domain.com. www.domain.com (2.2.2.2) - which is the www subdomain for domain.com domain.com (cname www.domain.com) - an alias for www.
The zone file for domain.com lists mail.domain.com as the MX server for domain.com. 2.2.2.2 is actually being served web pages as a virtual host. It's real hostname is www.anotherdomain.com. Mail for domain.com works pretty well, in general. However, if I attempt to send mail from www.domain.com (or its alias domain.com), I get "mail for domain.com loops back to myself" in the postfix logs. On 2.2.2.2 /etc/postfix/mail.cf has mydestination = www.anotherdomain.com, localhost. How do I tell postfix on 2.2.2.2 that mail for domain.com needs to be delivered to mail.domain.com?

Backround:
I'll have 2 routers:
- ADSL-router (D-link DSL-2640U)
+ NAT on (needed as one static IP from ISP)
+ Server's IP as 192.168.X.xxx
+ router firewall port-forwards set for needed ports (21,22, 80 etc) to 192.168.0.xxx - 2nd LAN-router
[Code]....
Is there any setting/file on Debian-user-machine, where I could fix that abc.mydomainXYZ.com/defg is always in something to do with 192.168.X.xxx

I used Likewise (specifically, likewise-open-gui) to add my computer to the Windows domain at work. I can log into the computer with my domain credentials.
Until I reboot.
If the computer ever shuts down fully, I get an authentication failure when I log in using the domain account. But if I log in using a local account and run likewise-open-gui again from there, everything works. I don't have to rejoin the domain, only launch the program, close it, and log out of the local account. This seems to allow me to log into the domain afterward.
Is there something in specific that I can add to my startup scripts that will connect me to the domain before login?

Have a domain registered on a public ip. The domain server for the domain is on the same local network as the web server that uses the domain. The web server naturally has a local and public ip address.
The problem is that whenever I try to access the domain from my local network the lookup for the domain fails, as it cannot find the server from the local network. What's the most painless solution to this problem?
TL;DR: need for my domain to be accessible from both my local network and the outside world, now it's only from the outside which is a problem.

i have running sendmail 8.13 on my red hat enterprise linux 5.1, but i have a problem. I can send a mail from my line command terminal to hotmail, gmail, yahoo and any of these, but i can't send mail to my own domain ([URL]), when i wrote a mail i get a reply from MAILER-DAEMON@localhost.localdomain that says that the message had pemanent fatal errors and shows as user unknown the mail was suposed to recive the message.
For example, if i send one mail from user1@mydomain.com to user2@mydomain.com the user2 does not recive any mail, but that doens not happens if user1 sends a mail to any hotmail address or gmail or any other. Besides i also can't recive on my server any mail to user1@mydomain.com or user2@mydomain.com (for example), so please tell me what do i do to get the mail.

I'm trying to set up a *simple* MTA in my local network. The only thing it should be able to do is send system / daemon mails to admin@mylocaldomain. but at the moment I'm pretty much overwhelmed by everything i *should* know in order to set up this MTA
my infrastructure:
- servers:
* test01.mylocaldomain --> should send mails (with exim) to admin@mylocaldomain
* dns01.mylocaldomain --> dns-server
* mail.mylocaldomain --> mail-server (postfix / iredmail package)
I configured exim to be in "internet"-mode. now i have a variety of errors I can choose from (and a variety of solutions that i don't like ).. my test is always an email from test01.mylocaldomain:
echo "Hello World" | mail -s Testmail admin@mylocaldomain
- after running the config, i get the error: admin@mylocaldomain: all relevant MX records point to non-existent hosts --> google says, edit and udpate update-exim4.conf.conf --> dc_relay_domains='mylocaldomain' --> but this exim installation should not be a relay at all. it should only be able to SEND (to this domain), not deliver it. or do i get something wrong?
- after i added dc_relay_domains='mylocaldomain', i get --> SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:<admin@mylocaldomain>: host mail.mylocaldomain [192.168.x.x]: 550 5.1.1 <root@mylocaldomain>: Sender address rejected: User unknown in virtual mailbox table --> but i don't want to create an account on the mailserver for the SENDER...
- ...so i thought, i'd config exim with the domain "test01.mylocaldomain" (including the server name), so that the sender is clearly from another domain than the mail server handles (e.g. user@test01.mylocaldomain).. but then i get this --> SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:<admin@mylocaldomain>: host mail.mylocaldomain [192.168.x.x]: 450 4.1.8 <root@test01.mylocaldomain>: Sender address rejected: Domain not found
I really just wanna send mails in my local network.

ever since upgrading from karmic to lucid, i cannot ping fqdn hosts in .local tlds. nslookup & dig work, but most other utilities fail (ping, traceroute, etc...). i know .local is an invalid tld, but apple seems to have made it a defacto standard on private networks, so i'd imagine somebody else has seen this issue before... is there a simple fix that doesn't require managing hosts file entries on a bunch of systems?

I recently decided I wanted a web server so I installed Ubuntu and apache2 on it and it works fine. I installed forums on the site as well and it's working fine to. Problem I don't know exactly what to do with the site so I haven't purchased a domain yet (so to access the site you just type in the ip address).
I know this sounds really weird but I want to know if I can make a mail server without a domain name. I kinda want to use it for e-mail verification for the forum. I have been following this tutorial: [URL] and it seems i need a domain name. Is it possible? Also I am not using Ubuntu server, would setting up a mail server be much easier on there (or rather, does it come with a mail server?)
