Ubuntu Servers :: Cant Get Server Nic Cards Working?
Aug 5, 2010
i had just went out and got some older blade servers and put ubuntu server on it and when i was installing it it asked if i wanted to set an ip because it didnt get a dhcp responce i said no then because i was going to do it later when i do a ifconfig now all i get is a lo interface but if i do sudo lspci i get 2 ethernet controllers and they show as follows 2:03.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom corporation NetXtreme BCM5702X Gigabit Ethernet (rev 02) 2:04.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme Bcm57j02x Gigabit Ethernet (rev 02)
i have been trying to figure out how to get my CAC working on my laptop so i can log into service portal sites and do things while i am TDY that require CAC logins. I have followed this tutorial [URL], and i got as far as getting the module installed into firefox, but it wouldnt aknowledge my card being inserted and wouldnt prompt me to select a certificate or anything. Then i tried OpenSC, but for one it wouldnt acknowldege my card being inserted and the module wouldnt load in firefox.
I mainly want to use this for logging into AirForce Portal, DTS, and Webmail while im TDY so i dont have to find a GOV computer to do that stuff on. I would ultimately like to get it setup to where i can use my CAC to login to my laptop just like a Government computer, but if i cant do that right now i wont cry over it. Im using a SCM SCR3340, i havent seen it on any supported hardware list yet, but so far coolkey and opensc have both detected my reader, just opensc didnt detect my card being inserted.
I'm trying to get ubuntu working w/ 3 monitors. I have been given 2 video cards
lspci | grep VGA 20:01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV620 LE [Radeon HD 3450] 25:05:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV44A [GeForce 6200] (rev a1)
I have had it working w/ two monitors plugged into the ATI correctly. and the nVidia monitor blank. Now I have the nVidia monitor working and one monitor from the ATI working, but I can't seem to get the last monitor to show anything. It does show the boot screen and works up until the point you are presented w/ the login screen for ubuntu, then it disappears and the nVidia monitor turns on. Might I have something wrong w/ my xorg.conf or do I need to do something more to get this to work? Currently I'm seeing this error in my Xorg.0.log file, but I'm not sure where to go from here:
[ 24.746] (EE) RADEON(2): reusing fd for second head /etc/X11/xorg.conf # nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig # nvidia-xconfig: version 270.29 (firstname.lastname@example.org
I have a Proliant 7000 with 4 interfaces across 2 cards - 3 intel 10/100Tx and 1 intel 100FX. During install it detected the 3 tx interfaces - but couldnt see the network - post install the network devices were no longer there, their devices missing from /dev/.
Neither google nor a forum search have been particularly edifying, is this a known issue with any cards? If so is there a known fix? ifconfig gives me information for loopback only as expected.
I'm new to Ubuntu - I've decided to give Ubuntu Studio a go as an alternative to Windows. However, after installing it, neither of my network cards work. I have a Intel Pro Wireless 3945ABG wireless card, and a Broadcom Netlink Gigabit Wired card. Neither work, And I'm not sure how to. I've tried searching, and have come up with the .tgz file here, but I have no idea what to do with it I'm concentrating on the wireless card for the moment, seeing as that will be the main one I use.
This is a fact I have to share with you. I've tried it on liveCD version, and also have tried to fix the problem, but nothing worked. I even installed ndiswrapper, but the Windows drivers didn't solve the problem:
- the system sees the card (lspci) - the card doesn't see any wireless network (iwlist) - no command line manipulation helps (iwconfig, ifconfig)
Pre-exsisting issue from 9.04 server, and has never worked right for me. When I try to open an X11 forwarded app on a mac using the command "ssh -X myusername@serverIP" Other linux machines have similar issues from terminal. I can login just fine and preform any actions I want that do not require X11 forwarding, like say firefox or a manager. I just get the error "Error: no display specified" when trying to do anything with X11 forwarding. I have almost no Linux experience but from tinkering and my friends tinkering wonder if I have a x authority issue.
At one point I had ubuntu desktop package installed (forwarding still did not work then), did a unclean uninstall of it installed Xubuntu. Xubuntu did nothing but throw fits saying I did not have authority to preform all sorts of actions, many relating to root access. This box is meant to be a headless file, print and web server with the ability to login remotely as a convince for administration. I have given up on having a working GUI of any kind on this box. I really do not want to reinstall because of the amount of data on the main partition. What can I start trying to look into?
I installed ubuntu 8.04 server edition in my PC to deploy a web application. After the installation was complete i typed apt-get update in the terminal. It's throwing error messages like* Failed to fetch* Unable to connect to in.archive.ubuntu.com* Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.* You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problemsBut when i try it again i get the same issues.
I have been stuck with this for quite some time now. I have installed ldap and configured it as per instructions fromI am able to query the ldap server without forcing the TLS operation to be successful. But with ldapsearch -d -1 -x -h servername -ZZ -b dc=example,dc=eduI get the error
I want to pull a couple of packages from Debian Testing, but I can not get apt pinning to lower the testing repo's priorityI add the testing repo to the bottom of /etc/apt/sources.lst.I then add this in /etc/apt/preferences but when I do 'sudo aptitude update' and then 'sudo aptitude full-upgrade', it wants to upgrade all packages to the versions in debian testing.
I've been trying to get a working server installation with little success. Wailing and gnashing of teeth has occurred. Auto-cranialdepilation (pulling my hair out) is in full swing and the intravenous caffeine is running out. My target is a running Ubuntu server with an e-mail server, Samba and the ability to host a few domains for friends and a couple of volunteer organisiations. All non-profit stuff. For the hosting I need something like cpanel but not actual cpanel; you seen the price of it!
I've installed postfix from the tutorial at [URL]... I think I've got ssh working, in as much as I can putty into the server. BTW, the server is physically next to my desk. Can I get email or webmin working? Can I hell! is there any kind soul out there who knows what they're doing who would be prepared to spend a bit of time puttyed in to the server helping me set the freaking thing up? I'm a sort of noob old hand. I still have a copy of the first edition of K&R and I had the pleasure of owning a Sun 3/260 for some years; wonderful machine! So I can
Code: rm -rf /* quite happily and know that xnix doesn't know how to make love. Trouble is... SunOS 4.1.1 and Solaris 1 are more my era.
Is there anyone here who has ever manager to get ZoneMinder Working on an Ubuntu Server?I have been having issues even after searching the net for all solutions.I have a x86 workstation and web cam: Logitech Pro 5000 Running Ubuntu 11.04 Server x86 Installed Linux Successfully.I have Tried to install ZoneMinder successfully and can connect via URL...I can camera's etc but cannot get anything through it.Bu not able to get this resolved and thought I wouldsee if anyone has ever manager to get this working on Ubuntu and can mentor me on this.
I have a headless 10.04 ubuntu server ( running at home. Because I am a student I want to save some power by suspending the server when I really don't need it (school, sleep etc.). I have gotten WOL to work for me, BUT the suspend does not work.
I have tried pm-suspend and s2ram, but they both have same result; I lose all control (seems like a freeze) from my SSH, but it does not disconnect, and the server responds to pings. But I cant connect via ssh, or use the fileserver or any of the roles it has. I assume there might be something locking it when it tries to suspend, but I really don't know where to start looking (logs and stuff). I have googled quite a bit, but almost all failed suspends are some funky laptop issues, and this is not...
Clean install of 10.04 Server 32 bit.Only services OpenSSH Server and Print Server.Machine boots and can be accessed through ssh.Virtual terminals (cntl-alt-1,2,3,4,... do not result in video to the monitor (no sync) or a display. If I type blind, I can log in, ssh back to my other machine, and create a file. So the virtual terminal is there and listening to the keyboard and running, just not creating a display.
This machine has been working fine with 08.10 for quite time up until yesterday, so I don't believe it is a hardware problem.Any ideas why the video on the virtual terminals would not work?
I am wondering how to setup a wireless connection (I am using WPA or WEP, does anyone know how I can figure that out) and I don't have access to a wired connection and I am not able to reset my router. Does anyone know how I can get my wireless connection working?
Now when I try to pull an Ip from the 18.104.22.168/24 subnet I do not see the options in the DHCPACK from the server. The client gets an IP 22.214.171.124 but no options are present in the DHCPACK or any other DHCP transaction. I have confirmed this trhough tcpdumps on the server and client.
The server version I am using is:
The version of the DHCP server is :
Internet Systems Consortium DHCP Server V3.0.6-Fedora
I've installed Ubuntu Server 10.10 with two network cards. One for external, and one internal. My problem is that as soon as i activate eth1 (external), i can't access the server from the internal network (eth0)
With these settings i can't reach the internal network from inside. If i disable the gateway on eth1 and enable the gateway on eth0, it works.
I recently bought a used Server (FSC RX200 S4) and set it up running Debian 7. Being used to Ubuntu, that was no big deal. It works as it should out of the box. This magic computing machine has four Network cards (eth0 - eth3). Now, I want to set it up as a multi-purpose server. On the one hand, it shall provide a Apache2 webserve, a SQL Server, a File/Streaming Server and so on. I have no problems setting up these.
On the other hand, it should work as a DHCP server in my local lan with some PCs and a printer/scanner. Until now, my cheap router did that job including to connecting me to the internet. Since I can't really set up a proper firewall with that box, I want to use my server for that.
Thats's my desired setup I want to achieve: Router provides internet connection to Server --> cable goes into eth0 Server therefore has a internet connection --> Some internal magic routes the internet from eth0 to eth1 (preferably as a iptables setup) and does the Firwall & DHCP Service --> cable goes from eth1 to a switch --> switch connects the PCs and printer PCs have internet and I can use the printer
So far so good, here's what I've come up with. I installed dnsmasq and isc-dhcp-server. I got some config files for both. I got a script to set up my iptables
Iptables script: Code: Select all#!/bin/sh # # rc.firewall # firewall with iptables ... stronger version # FWVER=0.88s
echo -e " Loading STRONGER rc.firewall - version $FWVER..
When starting up the services, I don't see any errors. Still, it doesn't work. My Server loses its internet connection and the PCs connected to the network are unreachable.
I'm wondering a couple of things about my LAMP stacks:
1) How do I get a list of all the network cards installed in a linux box? I've run this command and it shows 2 network cards which is probably all of them: Code: mii-tool -v
2) How can I check the percent utilization of a given network card? I.e., at any given time, what linux command will tell me the how much of a network card's bandwidth is being consumed? I've checked both ethtool and mii-tool and I don't really see any helpful stats.
3) How can I make sure that a linux box will optimally use both network cards? I'm a bit fuzzy on how IP addresses and network cards and hostnames work together.
Is there a way to get Xen PV-on-HVM drivers for Linux HVM guests working on ubuntu server, according to:[URL]..
Xen PV-on-HVM drivers were merged to upstream kernel.org Linux 2.6.36, and various optimizations added in Linux 2.6.37. I am using Ubuntu server on my Xen HVM VPS. It would be nice to use the PV drivers for HVM to take advantage of performance improvements (so it doesnt need to use the Qemu emulation layer and can use Xenbus/netfront etc) I am running a custom kernel 126.96.36.199 and have enabled Xen support in the kernel (under "Processor type and features" -> "Paravirtualized guest support" -> "Xen guest support"
I am using open suse 11.1 in my acer emachine laptop. Everything is okay except Network cards are not working. It says that firmware is missing or kernel problems. My network cards are Broadcom network cards. How can I fix it?
I have very interesting problem after ~10 PHP Fatal error, php 5(latest one) in apache2(latest one) in Ubuntu Server 10.10(with latest updates) just do not work. So if try any php page it's not working(user see white page), but HTML still work fine. What that can be? So only restart apache is help to back php. (we are running Wordpress blog 3.1)
I had a problem with apache2 and getting .htaccess working. I have done some things and i believe its working the ErrorDocument command is anyway. I believe there may be some problems with the rewrites though.Im trying to take a urlhttp://localhost/showthread/123and make it display whats on http://localhost/index.php?showthread=123The rewrite rule is Quote:
Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^showthread/([^/.]+)/?$ index.php?showthread=$1 [L]
I upgraded Samba to 3.5.2 to enable Windows 7 to log in to the PDC. ACL was working with the Samba 3.0.28a that came with 8.04LTS. After upgrade I can now log in to the domain with Win 7 but ACL permissions are not working on Win7, XP or anything. They still show on the server but any attempt to change permissions on the workstation fails with "Access is Denied" and only user/group/other permissions are doing anything. Anyone know what changes for the ACL were made between the two versions? I know they're working on switching to VFS modules but setting "vfs objects = acl_xattr"
