I need to host a user directory and home directors on a Ubuntu 10.04 box. I've installed openLDAP and I can connect a mac to it. how to install the mac schema or add users etc to it. I can view the directory in Workgroup Manager on Mac OS X Server but I also dont know how to set the admin username or password.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI started a new job and they use LDAP here. I built a new RHEL 5.5 server and configured LDAP. Usernames are recognized but the password is not. I can chown a file to a user name but when I try to login as the user it won't accept the password.I know the password is correct because I can login to any of the old boxes and it accepts the password. I ran authconfig-tui to tell my RHEL box to authenticate to ldap.

I noticed that users on the machine can login into vsftpd with their username and password on the machine and go to their root dir "/home/username".Now, I want to give some people a vsftpd username and password so they can upload and download files and folders to their folder, but this folder has to be in the "/var/www/(username)" folder. I don't want them to be able to go to any other folder than their own folder like "/var", "/etc" or "/home" etc. Also I don't want them to be able to login on the machine as a user, through putty for example. They should only be allowed to acces their folder with vsftpd, nothing else.

The directories 'manager', 'examples' and 'ROOT' were removed under /usr/share/tomcat/webapps/ and rebuilt them copying from a working tomcat server. We have Ubuntu 8.04 running on our mail server and remote smtp connection does not work.
When trying to send with a client such as Thunderbird it complains about a wrong usernamepassword.
Receiving mail with IMAP and POP3 works fine through Thunderbird. Both receiving and sending mail through a web interface(horde) works.
I can remotely telnet the server at port 25 and this is the output of ehlo:

I maintain a samba PDC for a small business, our current setup does not work very well; on a hardware upgrade I directled imported the old ldap database and attempting to add machines to the domain causes all sorts of trouble.
I'm 95% sure the original database (which predates my employment) was created using the idealx smb-ldap tools, unfortunately on our current platform (debian lenny) these tools seem to be broken; the only things hey seem to do reliably are set passwords and add posix users, asking them to do anything involving samba/windows causes errors. The idealx tools seem to be abandoned, and I don't know enough perl to try and fix them.
Since the idealx scripts seem to be abandoned, and most of the good samba+ldap how-tos references the idealx tools, I was wondering what people use nowadays to manage there ldap directories; surely they aren't importing .ldif files to add new users/machines like I've been doing. Are people just writing thier own management scripts/web-apps? Or are the smb=ldap tools just broke on debian?how to generate the NT/LM password hashes and proper SIDs, does anybody have anything they could point me to about this?
I've setup an openldap server, and am trying to add .ldif files to the database.
I am constantly getting the following error, no matter what I do:
I setup openldap and samba on 9.10. The ubuntu desktop client gets authenticated successfully with the server. But when I do a passwd on the client, only the ldap passwd is getting changed but not in the samba and the unix user account.

Is there any requirements for creating a non-admin login user, because the "user", that I've created is not ObjectClass: Posix-Account, but ObjectClass: person, organizationalPerson?

I have a problem regarding the ubuntu enterprise cloud. I have installed CC,CLC,SC,NC and a client and logged into thje user interface using my browser for the first time with bith username and passwd as admin and downloaded the credentials.But now as I try to login with the same username and passwd, it says that its an invalid login. I understand we have to change the password on the first login but i don't remember doing the same.
I tried recover password option and gave the user name as admin and email address as my gmail id. It says that I have to follow the instructions sent to the mail, but there is no mail sent I have done it like 5 or 6 times with different mail ids

This shows that 636 port is open.But When I am attempting to this Linux Server from one of Windows Desktop it says "LDAP is Down".
I selected LDAPv3 and LDAPv3, hostname and SSL/TLS tried fetching base DN but it dint work.
brand new 2 Ubantu & set up standard Ubantu compartment accessed via 1 user name only and password. 1st few times all good but now suddenly, unexpectedly password declared invalid. View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently decided to try and change my admin password on my usual default account (the one you have to type in, in order to do sudo e.t.c im guessing)a the user account option...and having entered my previous password correctly,t will not allow me to enter a new password, it just seems to hang, (i.e the working icon appears, but having waited a minute or twwo nothing seems to of happened..(cannot press the confirm button). Is there a way to reset the password so that i can set a new one, if i cannot change my own admin password, and i was working on a windows system, i would be screaming system compromise right now, but as its ubuntu, im sure theres a perfectly innocent explantion

Or to connect to the internet (I use mobile broadband) I have to authenticate, also if I have to install something from synaptics I have to authenticate. I know this is good for security but I am the only person using my computer , so is there any way out of this authentication business.

I find this quite aesthetically pleasing and am immediately aware that I cannot continue until I enter my password. This is the only time that the screen dims in this fashion when asking for my admin password. Is this correct? If not (or maybe even if it is), should this be considered one for the papercut ninjas?

I made it executable, put in /usr/local/bin and updatedb. Then I made a launcher pointing to the bash script. The problem is, If I use the launcher, it never asks for your admin password so, the folder doesn't get created.
After my windows computer died of old age, I was given this computer. It has Linux Mint 9 Isadora on it. I am trying to learn how to use it. The update and other functions are locked out with a password. Is it possible to change it without reinstalling the entire Os.
