I have ubuntu 10.04 running LAMP and proftpd, I can access over LAN but not when I type my domain name in. I have forwarded all necessary port to to the local ip of that box, added rules to ufw to allow traffic on those specific ports. I use dyndns for a second level domain and have used all their tools to check whether the ports are open and have the results I am looking for.

But this is only available on my host machine and not elsewhere on the network. How do I make it available to others on LAN and eventually on the internet (associated with my host IP address?)

View 7 Replies View RelatedI installed ubuntuserver edition 10.10 on my old p3.Installation went fine and i installed LAMP and SSH along with it.*everyhting i do past this point is via LAN on my laptop using root account on putty or winSCP.*I installed phpmyadmin, loged in with root, duplicated the root acount and gave the duplicate any host (%) access. Next i created an account with access only to the users database (for use in my php to check username and password).Next thing i did was change the apache2 config 000-default to disable indexing.After that i changed the php.ini file to allow 6GB uploads (for movies).Rebooted... and thats where the problems start.I CANT:Acces phpmyadmin with any acount.Login on my website.I CAN:login to mysql using root.I HAVE:Checked if the mysql database and table for websitelogin still existed, they do.Checked mysql useracounts and they are still there.So something changed after the reboot, because it was working fine before i did.
View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter a battle with Ubuntu, Django, Apache and wsgi i could reach the website i set up from another computer via ip-adress (10.37.129.6). i then restarted the server and after booting tried to access the website from outside - permission to / denied with the usual 403 error. trying to fix that, i logged in to the server and suddenly the website was available again. typed logout on the server - no access wt. 403. logged in - website can be accessed.i somehow suspect this is some strange permission problem, but i don't have a clue where to start searching. errorlogs just contain information that a / access request has been denied.

My problem is that I can't access the internet once I'm connected to my VPN. Is it possible to allow internet access through VPN?I mainly would just like to be able to connect, access my local network, and still browse the internet. Is there anything specific I need to change?

I recently installed the ubuntu-desktop packages and cannot get internet through the gui, firefox never gets past the "looking up" stage.I can accessthe internet through the command line and through webmin httptunnel. Wget, apt-get install, apt-get update, apt-get upgrade all work fine from the command line. I have local access to the GUi as well in the form of VNC that is working fine.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am able to access phpmyadmin via my web browser using either my local ip followed by /phpmyadmin and by using the same layout with localhost. If i use my DNS name provided by no-ip which i bound to in apache2 i am able to get to the "It works!" page with the domain name but if i use /phpmyadmin after it, it will tell me that there is no such directory.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been searched for the related topic, but i couldn't found any of them. Basically, i want to set up a server to restrict internet access for other computer (windows box), but allow internet connection for kaspersky to download its database. Here are some questions:
1. Do i need two network card at the server box?
2. There are 8 computers but only 2 are allowed all internet connection, 6 of the rest are not allowed, all windows box can accept connection to download database from kaspersky.
3. Is it Iptables the best, easiest way to configure?
alright so i set up dhcp server and my clients are getting ip's, can ping each other, and can ping/ssh the server. but nowhere beyond that.
however if i ping an externel site, i get its IP addr, but no pings (100% loss)
im ripping my hair out over this. i know that iptables is right, but i dont know about dns

Ubuntu lts server distro using on remote machine. i have remote site where internet access given via squid proxy. so when we enter in browser it start working internet fine. but on command line(bash shell prompt terminal) like wget,ping,nslookup,traceroute etc these commands does not work.

on my lucid server i installed dhcp3 server and bind9, i can ping and dig all on the local network. on the clients however, as soon as i go out of the local network there's messages like "unknown host www.google.com" or "network is unreachable".
I'm a absolute "server- noob" but I've got some experienced with desktop linux and want to build my own file server to access my stuff over the internet. I'm using dropbox for a while now like a cloud drive by simply mounting the "private" folder (which I encrypted with encfs/BoxCrypt) in order to cross-platform use important files. The problem is that Dropbox only provides 2 GB for free and I don't know how secure my data is up there. Moreover I don't wanna always sync all files locally.
I got an intel atom machine standing around and so I want to build my own file server to provide the same or at least a similar service.
1. Which type of server application provides a "network drive" that computers (several users) from the internet can access?
2. What's the best way to encrypt my data and transmission in order to make the system absolutely unattackable/unreadable from outside?
3. Is there a service that can provide a dropbox-style sync mechanism?
4. Which distro should I use? I'd prefer a non-desktop enviroment solution but never had anything to do with it. Is that possible for an average linux user?
I'm aware that this solution won't be very fast because of the limited upload of a standard internet connection but that would be ok! It's more that I want to have the possibiltiy to access all my data as a thin-client anywhere, anytime on any machine and still be on the safe side. I know that this is some kind of contradiction but what would be the best compromise? I know some questions may sound stupid but I really never had anything to do with servers at all in the past...
I just finished setting up my small server, however I realized that no one can connect to it from the outside. The reason being is that my router is assigning internal ip's and dyndns is linked to that. I need port 80 for the Apache server, but if I have the router forward that port to my particular ip, won't it screw with everyone else's internet too?

Maybe this isn't original thinking, but then again maybe you didn't think of doing it this way (which i am sure there are many ways to do it) So I have 2 Ubuntu Servers, 1 Windows Box and a Hub - All 3 with internet access off of single ip and single Ethernet port.
While searching for a backup method today I came across Clonezilla. I was wondering if this was the right thing for me and since I needed to backup my roommates PC for a reformat and install of Windows I decided I would give it a try, but only if it would work. I didn't want the hassle of going into the main part of the house and finding out what cord was what as there is a cable modem connected into a switch (4 static IP's with internet) and one port of the switch hooked to a router) Anyways, didn't work he was on the router I was on the switch)
But this got me thinking. When I setup my server to do this, during one of the setup scripts it said it was setting up Internet access for client machines and that it was assigning them IP addresses threw a DHCP server that it had installed.
So, I dug up the hub connected the internet cable to hub up link and Server 1 on port 1 Server 2 on port 2 and Windows on port 3 The main server gets the internet provided IP address and routes it to the hub via a virtual interface. Server 2 is configured for DHCP and the windows box, It was set to get info automatically but it didn't fill the DNS info so I had to manually do that (just a heads up) I decided to use OpenDNS Servers (208.67.222.222 & 208.67.220.220) but im sure putting in the gateway IP address would have worked too.
So, by now if you need this I am sure you are excited and want to get to it. Like i said there are probably other ways of doing it, ways that don't involve you installing clonezilla and DRBL, maybe even just DRBL is needed, maybe one of them installed whats needed as a dependency- all I know is it works, if you know - elaborate so people know, but hey- this way not only do you have internet access on all PC's you can deploy custom images to them as well.
I have a machine (lets called it machine 1) with two networks card, eth0 and eth1. Both have static IPs. Once in a while the machine refuses to give access to the Internet via Firefox (eth0 is the route to router). Other machines on the network have no problems accessing the Internet. Eventually the machine would just magically start working again, but this time it just seems to have stayed broken. I've done some simple diagnostics and found:
a) I have another machine running Apache with a Wiki on our network - [URL]. Machine 1 is unable to connect to this Wiki. I get 'the connection has timed out'. I can ping 192.168.1.73 and it responds in the usual fashion.
b) If I try to ping www.google.com it times out with: ping: unknown host www.google.com. I can ping google using its IP address.
c) On machine 1 I have tried traceroute on both www.google.com and its IP and I just get:
1 * * *
2 * * *
And so on until hop 30. Doing this on any other machine on the network works. So while it seems I can ping internally in our network and outside, but when it attempts anything traceroute or URL related it does not work.
I have a linux box (fedora) with two ethernet cards eth1 and eth2. On eth1 I successfully configured a PPPOE internet connection. Such that from the server I can browse the internet. On eth2 I wired it to a wireless router essentially to provide the wireless cloud. On eth2 I also configured dhcp, such that the Linux box is both PPPOE and DHCP server.However my clients on the LAN cannot access the Internet.
On passing the routing command I get

The router (functioning as a wireless access point mainly) has a fixed IP address of 192.168.1.2 and eth2 has IP address 192.168.1.1. The dhcp file running on Linux has been set with option router (Gateway) 192.168.1.1. I cannot figure out how to correctly set the routing table such that my clients on wireless can access the internet cloud. I googled and googled but no solid solution. Any suggestions?
I'm having difficulty accessing http://egrants.ed.state.pa.us/v2/default.asp while using Ubuntu 11.04 and Ubuntu 10.04.I've tried chrome, firefox and opera as well as three different ISPs. My Windows machines don't seem to have this problem.
A little background:My agency has several offices, some with different ISPs, but with essentially the same setup: ISP router/modem --> Ubuntu Server with Squid/Dansguardian --> Switches, etc.When we first started encountering this problem I thought I had to have had something going on with Squid/IP Tables or something of that sort. I connect my laptop (running Ubuntu 11.04) directly the ISPs modem/router and have the same slowness. I figure that maybe the site is having problems. I ask the other tech in my office to try it out (he's running Windows 7) and he has no slowness with the site when connected directly to the ISPs modem/router.For the time being I've circumvented the filter box for the Windows users who need access to this site, but I'm not certain that's the best solution.I contacted the site's tech support several times and just gotten a "we'll call you back".Any suggestions on things I can check/change with my setup to get this working?

I just bought the Barnes & Noble Nook eReader for my wife's birthday and a requirement is to log on to the Nook website and establish an account. Using her Fedora 13 64bit desktop and Firefox she repeatedly tried to access the website www.nook.com to create an account, however consistently got the server not found message. Even using the Firefox addon User Agent Switcher and turning off NoScript did not correct this.
When we switched over to the WinXP install and Firefox we were able to access the website no problem. Anyone else unable to access that website via linux?
I have web server apache on linux Centos. I can access it successfully by typing on the address bar http://localhost, 127.0.0.1 or 192.168.0.150 from the local computer server and the site loads normally with graphic. When I access the site from another computer in the same local network, I don't get the correct website. I see the site like html as text not graphic. Please see below text file output from the browser: Also I can only access the site by typing 192.168.0.150 IP address in the address bar. When I type http://localhost or 127.0.0.1, the site does not come up. Do you see what I did wrong? How can I fix this problem.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm using Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit Ubuntu with a wired nic card connected straight to the cable modem. When I try going to Free Internet Radio - SHOUTcast Radio - Thousands of Free Online Radio Stations I get an error message that it is unable to connect. I tried it with Firefox 3.6.11 and Opera 10.06 and neither one will make a connection to Shoutcast web page.
I don't have it blocked with iptables and I don't think the Ad Block plug-in is a factor as Opera won't connect either. But if I try it with IE in XP running in VirtualBox on the same Ubuntu system it will connect to the web page! Is it something with my Ubuntu system or is Shoutcast blocking access to Linux users?
I am trying to block a few websites on a lucid lynx, I tried editing /etc/hosts and that blocks access via url but the site still open if I enter the ip on the browser, how can I block ip access also? (without using any extra software besides what linux 10.04 have by default)
