I need a script/tool/whatever to toggle visibility of a specified window. I'm using Ubuntu with GNOME and compiz. I found wmctrl which can maximize, minimize windows and so on, but it couldn't make a window "hidden". There is even a option for it, but it doesn't work (neither for me nor for this guy creating this manual: [URL]
So my question: Is there another way to toggle visibility of a window? Any tool for that or even any commands for a bash script?
I have ubuntu 10.04 running LAMP and proftpd, I can access over LAN but not when I type my domain name in. I have forwarded all necessary port to to the local ip of that box, added rules to ufw to allow traffic on those specific ports. I use dyndns for a second level domain and have used all their tools to check whether the ports are open and have the results I am looking for.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to run a command or rather a shell script provided by a vendor that installs its products. The script is "installscape". After running the script, the command prompt returns, a window for installscape pops up but immediately closes. No other messages or notification is provided. This used to work on this machine, so I'm being told by the vendor that it's my OS install. Is there any way I can get more visibility into what's going on as I run this?

I have cablenet connected on Windows XP. On windows it's working fine. On windows XP it alwasy ask me username and password and then it starts to work.But same cablenet is not working on Ubuntu on same laptop. It shows "connection established" if cable is connected. View 9 Replies View Relatedso, last night i checked my e-mail, jumped on facebook for a minute and went to bed. i got up this morning and my computer seemed frozen; no mouse/keyboard, no network visibility.....nothing. the screen was just frozen. tried too ssh into it to reboot, but the network wasn't up on it. i had to hard reboot. NOW, it just reboots forever....and ever....and ever. i have a WinXP partition on there along with my F12 and that wont boot either. selecting a previous kernel does nothing either. it wont even boot off the F12 install DVD. just keeps rebooting. I've never had this happen to me. so, it seems like a hardware thing to me, but i dont know if its my mobo or the drive. i suspect a mobo issue as the drive still spins up and gets me to the grub menu.

When I try going to Free Internet Radio - SHOUTcast Radio - Thousands of Free Online Radio Stations I get an error message that it is unable to connect. I tried it with Firefox 3.6.11 and Opera 10.06 and neither one will make a connection to Shoutcast web page.
I don't have it blocked with iptables and I don't think the Ad Block plug-in is a factor as Opera won't connect either. But if I try it with IE in XP running in VirtualBox on the same Ubuntu system it will connect to the web page! Is it something with my Ubuntu system or is Shoutcast blocking access to Linux users?
i have a problem with my new router and ubuntu 10.10. The problem is that my internet connection show me that my laptop had connect to internet but my browser can't open a website ( this problem is the same with my netbook ) to fix it always must turn it off and after on either it never makes.

- the LDXE Main Menu / System / Administration submenu is set as visible, but is actually HIDDEN
- the LDXE Main Menu / Applications / System Tools / Configuration Editor entry always remains VISIBLE, no matter if set as visible or hidden.
So it seems that visibility settings and actual visibility do not stay in synch. Is there a way to resync, either way, visibility settings and actual visibility? Or, which config file(s) may contain error?

Now they have introduced a new site where ADSL customers can review their usage. A useful facility when the cost of exceeding monthly transfer is punitive and average incomes are low. But it is not useful for everyone. It is not useful for Linux users. The currently supported OS and browser combinations are "Internet Explorer on PC" and "Safari and FireFox on Mac".
I tried with Firefox, Opera and SeaMonkey on Linux. In Firefox I tried a variety of UserAgent strings but none of them got the logon page to work.
Technically speaking, how can this be happening? If Firefox works on Mac (IDK which versions of either) why would it not work on Linux? Where/how might the OS get involved in a browser rendering HTTP/HTTPS data?
Here's how the three browsers behaveFirefox with JavaScript turned off: the site displays "Scripting is used to manage data interactions between the Siebel server/Web Server and the User Interface. I have met following problem: there is a website I cannot access.
When I am trying to connect to this site I get an error message. I tried all browsers installed on my system. Seamonkey, Firefox, Konqueror. All failed. I don't understand this completely as I have no problem with connecting to internet. Now I am thinking that I myself somehow unintentionally blocked an access to this particular site. Is it possible? How would I set up a website that would be only accessible locally. There's a router machine (server) that keeps provides internet access for a number of client machines. I need to set up a learning platform (moodle) locally. The server machine runs moodle server (apache server) and students should have access to their accounts locally (no need to be accessible outside of LAN).
