Ubuntu Servers :: Redirect All Outgoing Emails?
May 10, 2010
Here's what I'm trying to do to complete my rocking development server.
I would like all outgoing email on my Ubuntu server to be redirected to one email address (internal or external). I don't have any mail server installed yet (I'll probably use postfix unless you have another suggestion).
The reason I would like this to work is because I'm a web developer working on multiple projects. When I start working on a new project I would like to be able to test some of the forms and features in the web application (PHP) without having emails sent to the email address configured in the application. I can always change configurations but having my development server forward the emails would save me lots of trouble.
Example:
If one of my php application sends an email to: user1@domain.com, user3@domain4.com... I would like all of them to forward to myemail@domain.com

I just configured my first postfix mail server today. Everything is working correctly except for the fact that on all outgoing emails instead of the mail format being user@mydomain.biz it says user@hostnameofpostfixserver. I've looked everywhere I can think and I cant see where I'm substituting the host-name of the server for the domain name of my email. Where else could it be?Below is my main.cf. I am running ubuntu 9.10.# See /usr/share/postfix/main.cf.dist for a commented, more complete version# Debian specific: Specifying a file name will cause the first# line of that file to be used as the name. The Debian default

I am looking to be able to encrypt using OpenPGP certain outgoing emails on my linux server. Currently I have GPG setup with a public key, however encryption outgoing emails prooved to be harded. After a bit of research I have found GNU Anubis which acts as a middlemad between the MUA and the MTA, by encrypting emails before they reach my MTA (Sendmail)However I am having a bit of problem with the configuration of bind and remote-mta, as specified by anubis.I have the sendmail service running on port 25 and I want to leave it there, but I have configured my php.ini SMTP port to 24. So it runs through port 24 first and anubis then forwards the emails via remote-mta to port 25Here are my anubis configs:
bind localhost:24
local-mta /path/to/my/sendmail
remote-mta localhost:25
With all those set, I can't seem to get the basic modication of emails to work. (trying to change a certain subject to something else, just to see that anubis is working). However emails are still working with port 24 as the SMTP port.

I've got a web server that's hosting a few sites, and there are a few WordPress instances with these sites. With Wordpress, whenever a user registers with the site, they receive an email. With my server, it sends mail via Sendmail. This is all fine and good, except no matter what, it's flagged as spam. Is there any way to correct this?Keep in mind that this isn't a mail server, and the only reason the server ever sends mail is for new wordpress users and password resets.

I have a ubuntu 10.04 dedicated server that I am having problems with. It intermittently cannot connect to any other servers outside its network.
Code:
PING 8.8.8.8 (8.8.8.8) 56(84) bytes of data.
^C
--- 8.8.8.8 ping statistics ---
8 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 7008ms
(I have tried a bunch of other ips too and none outside its network are pingable) I'm not sure if this is a problem with my server or a problem with the networking outside the server. I have been emailing my server provider and they keep on insisting the problem is with the server and that their network is working fine. Apparently all of their other servers work and they can login into the gateway and ping 8.8.8.8 from there. So they just want to reinstall the OS, but I thought I'd post here to see if anyone has any ideas.
Here is some info I have gained while troubleshooting: I haven't changed any settings at all on the server for months. I haven't done any updates for about a week. The strangest thing is that this is intermittent, there have been a few times in the last 24 hours where I have been able to ping 8.8.8.8 or other ips, but 98% of the time I can't. I have also tried rebooting the server, which had no effect. I can ping the gateway, and I can ping other servers on the same subnet. I can ssh onto the server from my home internet connection, and I can view webpages on apache, so incoming connections work.

I have a small home network running mail agents Evolution and Thunderbird, and connected to the internet via Comcast. Originally I used my campus office computer as a mail server, but encountered problmes because Comcast started blocking port 25, allegedly because of span problems. I need to change the setup on my campus office computer so it uses port 587 when functioning as an outgoing mail server.
Can anyone recommend a tutorial which tells me everything to do in order to accomplish that?
At present I'm, using Comcast's outgoing mail server, but I started having problems with sporadic blokage of outgoing mail with attachments, which Comast can't explain.

My Firestarter logs show periodic outgoing connection attempts to IP addresses in countries such as Malaysia, China, Russian Federation etc... Fortunately, Firestarter appears to be blocking them. I suspect these are not good and want to find out exactly what process is initiating these outgoing connections.

I have installed a sendmail server on fedora 10
I try to configure my sendmail server as a mail server to send outgoing email using port 587( because port 25 is blocked). after finishing configuring my sendmail server, i checked out my sendmail server using telnet localhost 587, and it worked fine as below code...
I have tried two different ways for user name: name, or name@mail.mydomian.com, but not working at all, the two results are the same.
PS: I have test port 587 and can use port 587 and Kmail to send outgoing mail using other external relay server
is my wrong configuration for sendmail server or kmail?

I have a static IP from local ISP and my computer is configured with 192.168.1.2 (LAN IP).
I have installed ubuntu server 9.04 and want to send emails from my server for which I've configured postfix. But I dont know what to do next.
My questions are:
1. Do i need to install DNS server for using postfix? If not, what should I install to send emails from this server?
2. Do I need to forward any particular port in my router?
3. If I dont have a fully qualified domain, what are the configurations I need to do to send emails?

I have wordpress installed on my VPS, which is running 10.04.1 LTS. I appear to be having an issue whereby the server isn't sending out emails to new users, nor to myself when I get comments on the blog.I'm at a dead end for where to look next, because the settings are exactly the same as they were with my previous VPS (and they were always pretty generic), but yet it doesn't work.

Our main DNS resolves to a windows 2008 server box. What I want to do is have a secondary box with Ubuntu to receive sent emails (our@our.com). The problem my brain cannot get around is the DNS resolves to the windows server 2008 box(which host the website as well), how can we allow the email (ours@ours.com) to go to the Ubuntu email server even though the DNS name resolves to the windows server? We need the Windows Server but just Don't want it hosting our mail.

I've been having a hard time googling and trying to get ALL network connection to be redirected to squid proxy. I couldn't find a proper configuration for ufw or iptables. The ideas are:
1. redirection rule should NOT depend on a specific network inteface, but should work with any connection type, ex.: ppp0 or eth0... 2. firewall rules can be for firehol, iptables, or ufw (the same as iptables, just tell me where to place them). Preferably ufw or gufw. 3. should not interfere on cups web interface and lighttpd server.
BTW: it's not a ubuntu server install

I'm hosting my own dedicated server with Ubuntu Server 10.10. I have it set up with a static local IP, and I've configured DynDNS to link up with my router and allow my server to go live to the internet. I have all the appropriate ports unlocked, with the exception of port 80. This port is blocked by my ISP (Charter) and I can't use it. Due to this, I configured my router to listen on port 81, and direct it to my server.
So, In order to view it, you need to go to the IP XXX.xxx.XXX.xxx:81 Today, I registered (www.online-self.com) in hopes of getting around my current mask (provided by DynDNS.com (omegame.selfip.com). So here is my dilemma, When I go to the host of my domain name , I want to redirect my DNS to my server IP.
I can't seem to do it though? They want a strict IP address, no port extensions. How do I get around this so that my domain name and IP address link up? I'm thinking I may be missing a step, or maybe I needed to register a domain name that simply redirects? I'm starting to get confused on what I should do next. Can I even do this?

Our company owns multiple tld's for our corporate domain (e.g. company.com, company.net, etc.). Currently, we operate the main website at [URL]. To have "company.net" et al forward/redirect to "company.com", should we use a 301 redirect or setup a ServerAlias in Apache's virtual host directive (we use name-based virtual hosting on Ubuntu Server). Are there any SEO penalties from one approach vs. the other (e.g. Google thinking you have multiple sites with the same contact + flagging it as spam)?

We have a number of servers at work, some production and some non-production. We run some java applications on these servers. At present these java applications send emails via an SMTP connection to our live email servers.
In production all is well, the java apps send emails to customers. However, in the non-production environments all emails must not be sent out. Instead they must end up in some kind of generic inbox.
We don't want to mess with the production setup at all and it isn't an option to lose the non-prod emails altogether. So on non-prod we can reference another SMTP server and send all emails there. So far I've set up a postfix, dovecot, squirrelmail email server which appears to work.
how do I config my new email server so that any emails sent from our non-prod server to fred@hotmail.com, bill@yahoo.com, jenny@gmail.com etc all end up in one inbox?

My email server (Postfix + Courier + virtual dropboxes) can receive internal emails, but if the email is sent from the exterior (like Gmail or Hotmail) this email is returned to the 3?rovider (like Gmail):Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:xxxx@xxxxxxx.xxxTechnical details of permanent failure:Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. I recently set up exim so that I could test emails sent from my php sites. I have now been getting daily emails that either report errors from cron jobs or report a failure to send emails to root@cory-laptop or cory@cory-laptop about cron errors.I first of all don't want mail sent to the above addresses, because they are obviously not actual email addresses. Second, I'd really prefer not to get emails when an email failed to send to these addresses.

We have a load of undeliverable emails backed up on the server. The problem we have is that the server we purchased from a well known host is rubbish. It does not matter how many times we use outlook to get the emails off the server, it just keeps timing out.Question I want to ask is:1) How can I view the number of emails on the server via the terminal2) How do I then delete these directly off the server via the terminal
