last night when i turned off my comp there was this box saying that "Unknown" program is not responding.i included a screenshot. just wondering if i should be suspicious.

Today my laptop battery died and after i plugged it in and restarted it said that networking was not enabled. hitting the networking key didn't re-enable it. i right clicked the wireless icon in the tray and clicked "enable networking" and it enabled it but no networks showed up as available and the networking status light on my keyboard stayed red. I've restarted the computer several times to no avail. anyone know what i need to do?
I downloaded quicktime from the apple website because I am trying to get Itunes for fedora (If anyone knows another program that is functional with the IPOD please, let me know), I installed it with WINE, but the program is not responding well with my box. The program doesn't open, instead it black-out my computer screen and when I move the mouse over things, they then start to appear. Anyways...I tried uninstalling all of the files and folders that include the names "quicktime and qt"...then I tried re-installing QuickTime. Now I receive a reply that states "There is already a newer version of QuickTime installed on your computer." When I try

But when I search through the filesystem, those files/folders are not present... How can I completely remove this atrocious program?
When I log off/shut down I get an error message saying: Program not repsonding with the options to cancel, lock screen or log out anyway.The pgr listed is file manager. The other problem is when I go to places/documents or places/anything actually, nothing happens, nothin opens not documents, not home folder, not desktop, nothing.

Not even when I typed kill -9 and return.Why did the thing freeze up? I don't think there is folder /sounds/.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running Debian Squeeze x64 and have an odd problem with both Empathy and Pidgin. After I launch the program and add my accounts everything works fine. When I shut down either program and restart the accounts will not connect. I have to delete the accounts and re-add them and all is good until the next time. It's not a firewall issue as I've tried it with the firewall turned off.

View 9 Replies View RelatedThere is a server which was installed 3 days back. It got Cent OS 5.4 64 Bit with 4 GB RAM. Apache, MySQL, PHP and vsFTPd were installed using yum.Server was on the network and approx 100 visitors were on the website. All of sudden server got down. It stopping responding ping. Server guys told that server got down and after a request submission, they restarted server. However reason of the problem is still unknown. I logged in to shell via SSH and checked /var/log/messages file, but didn't find any record which indicate cause of system shutdown. However dates in this file aren't in chronological order.
Is there any way or log file to check for the exact reason, why system got down. One reason could be hardware fault (for that I am going to ask hosting company to run diagnostics). Other reason could be a software/os bug. Is there any tool / log file to check and diagnose the cause.
If I am using SME server as a gateway/firewall/private server can I turn off Vista Firewall? At the moment there is only one computer hooked up. Soon there will be two. Main computer is running Vista, Absolute and Xubuntu, the other one when I hook it up will have XP and Xubuntu.

Offlate I installed F11 i586 on my laptop. F11 shares the hard disk with Vista Home Premium 32-bit. The problem is that when running F11 (or even Ubuntu), my system shut off suddenly(not a normal OS shut down, but a sudden power off without any warning). This could have been a hardware trouble(heating) but it doesn't happen with Vista.

I don't want to open up my machine unnecessarily, if it isn't a hardware issue.
I am not sure how to verify the bit length of the machine and the OS and does it create a compatibility issue ?

When I was using Windows, I used PeerBlock (the newer fork of PeerGuardian), however, it's not available for Linux. What would be a good alternative for this in Linux? I tried iplist as it has a GUI, and it was extremely buggy and blocked random web pages even after I put them on the exceptions list. And MoBlock has no GUI from I understand, nor has it been updated in years.

What does this exactly mean? The installed program has already created own directories and subdirectories (e.g. /usr/local/texlive/2011/bin/i386-linux). Am I supposed to create a new subdirectory in home to write files and run latex program? Exactly how do I know that the downloaded and installed program is not malicious?
2. "Finally, TEX (and its companion programs) are able to write files when processing documents, a feature that can also be abused in a wide variety of ways. Again, processing unknown documents in a new subdirectory is the safest bet."

I found that they belong to "HotSpot"? But, I never downloaded/installed HotSpot.I did a "last" and saw that only local machines have logged into the one with logs:IP addrsses of 192.168.1.xxx

If I am installing a new package from ubuntu software center, and consquently I have to log in as root to do so, which means I have given the system 'privileges' as the program is being installed, I decide to go open mozilla, and surf suspicious sites on the net. For example, I have an executable, 'miscreant.bin' that has all of it's required libraries in a directory named "libraries", in the same directory as the said executable. I can launch the program and make it use the libraries included with the executable rather than the system with:

This might be a very stupid questions, but I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if there are any antivirus software for Linux?I know that it normally is not something that is needed, but in the company where I work they have a policy saying that every OS must have a realtime anti virus program installed on the pc's with automatic updates.
