Ubuntu :: Program Not Responding And Places Not Working?
Jul 8, 2010
When I log off/shut down I get an error message saying: Program not repsonding with the options to cancel, lock screen or log out anyway. The pgr listed is file manager. The other problem is when I go to places/documents or places/anything actually, nothing happens, nothin opens not documents, not home folder, not desktop, nothing.
I downloaded quicktime from the apple website because I am trying to get Itunes for fedora (If anyone knows another program that is functional with the IPOD please, let me know), I installed it with WINE, but the program is not responding well with my box. The program doesn't open, instead it black-out my computer screen and when I move the mouse over things, they then start to appear. Anyways...I tried uninstalling all of the files and folders that include the names "quicktime and qt"...then I tried re-installing QuickTime. Now I receive a reply that states "There is already a newer version of QuickTime installed on your computer." When I try
last night when i turned off my comp there was this box saying that "Unknown" program is not responding.i included a screenshot. just wondering if i should be suspicious.
play on linux is the only program sorry what it is doing is when i go to install a game and click apply it just stops then when i go to close the program down it says its not responding and wants me to either wait or force quit?
I got to the prompt in the subject line. Then I typed grep /sounds/ and return. Then the program stopped responding to commands. I could type things, but nothing happened. Not even when I typed kill -9 and return. Why did the thing freeze up? I don't think there is folder /sounds/.
Essentially, I am reading the book "Absolute Beginner's Guide to C (Second Edition)", but the biggest problem is that it doesn't have problems nor projects to practice programming. Unfortunately, I do not have the greatest of an imagination to create my own ideas for problems to solve. Does anyone know of any sites that have good problems/projects to work on when I learn throughout the book?
I'm having some trouble with Evolution. I have set up two IMAP accounts and ne POP account. Whenever I leave Evolution running for a while, work with something else and then get back to check my email it won't show new emails for the IMAP accounts. In the "progress bar" at the bottom it shows:Ping server XXX (0% complete) Checking new emails (0% complete) nd this seems to go on and on, I've waited for abt.0 minutes for it to finish pinging and checking for new emails but it doesn't stop. The P account works fine. If I however close Evolution and then start it again it immediately check and show new email in the IMAP accounts. Is there any solution to this
I'm running ubuntu maverick and i'm having issues with some things.First off, Alt+F2 no longer opens the Run Dialog. I have checked the keyboard shortcuts and settings and re-entered the command but it still doesn't work. I also checked the compiz settings for gnome compatibility. The odd thing is that all of my other Function key shortcuts work, just not Alt+F2 Not sure what else to try.
Next, I am not able to open Network in Places. I click it, then I get a loading icon for half a second then nothing opens. Also, when I click Places > Connect to Server, the only option that I have is custom location. The issue with this is that I used to have several other options like FTP, SSH, Windows Share, etc.
My network manager application went missing a few days ago. I enabled it by right clicking on the taskbar above and opting for "show". It reappeared and worked fine. After I rebooted, however, it was there ok, but it doesn't respond to clicking at all. It has stopped working.
When I click "Places" in the top gnome panel of Maverick, then click any link such as "Home" or "Desktop" (or any bookmark) Movie Player opens (instead of Nautilus)! This started today. I have rebooted twice, but that didn't help (no surprise--this isn't Windows).
i have a problem with th home folder button. When I click the button from the drop down ''PLACES'' menu i get this "Error File not found'' but if i go to places>computer>home folder, then it opens. If i type in ''CWD" i get this "/home/piepie''.so the home folder does exist, and if i type /home/piepie is a directory.
I installed F14 and I have been having some issues with the usage of the ram memory. Here is the situation: while working with firefox, amsn, and VLC, suddenly the system stop responding, I just can manage to check system monitor and the ram is at 89% (of 1GB) and the swap at 50% (of 1.4GB). I can do nothing then I just switch off the machine. After that using the same applications everything is fine. I was using F12.
I have a Dell Vostro 1220, with Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family graphics card. I work on OpenSuse 11.3 (64bit), on the latest kde.I work on an extended 1680x1050 screen on the left of my laptop screen (1280x800). I set this with Kxrandr and it worked great,a while... Now, it shows a black band on the right side of my laptop screen. I can live with that. But the mouse does not recalculate for this difference, so that I need to click 1 inch to the right of where I want to click.
I just upgraded from 8.04 to 10.04. Almost everything works great. However the gnome menu "Places" home folder. home .documents, music, pictures and videos does not open up Nautilus. I get the error "Could not open location 'file:///home/tom'" This should be an easy fix but I am lost. I also am having an issue with Alt-F2 not opening up the run command. I might be having an issue with key board layout.
On the top main menu bar, "Applications, Places, & system"..For some reason, "Places" is not working properly. I get the full drop down menu & I can click on any option there, but nothing happens.....Applications & System are both fine & working properly, it's just the Places tab that is an issue. My OS is Lucid 10.04 64bit.
I have a java application that is in this path: java -jar /home/jbo10/.stuff/run.jar
If I type that command the gui comes up and it's ready to run. I want this program to autostart with ubuntu, so I went into gnome-session-properties and put that command in there.
But it's not starting. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong or if there's another way to autostart programs?
I'm running Ubuntu 10.10, and I installed the Watchtower Library 2010 and it won't work. I click on the icon and the mouse starts showing that it's loading, but that's all it does. I tried the exe file in the program folder. I tried in the wine folder, I checked for the iphlpapi.dll fake file and the so file. Still isn't working. I made sure I've got 1.3.14 version of wine. What else is there to try?
There is a new website running tv program It work just great a quickly on Windows but for some reason it is not working on My Ubuntu / firefox. Can any one confirm if it is working on your box or why it is not working and what can I do to get it to work? [URL] I do not like to use the windows so I sure would like to get this working
Basically, it is a Bluetooth scanner that is designed to do just one thing, scan for discoverable devices in range and record their MAC, name, and the time/date they were found to a log file. There are only a few options, it is pretty much a set it and forget it sort of thing. The only requirements are BlueZ (3.x or 4.x), and that your computer has a Bluetooth device that is supported by Linux.
Obviously you will also need at least one device to scan for, and the more the better. If you want to take a walk through your mall while running it and seeing what you found, I would be ecstatic. A word of warning, I am not a very good C programmer and I have no doubt that there are mistakes in the code and improvements that could be made. You can download the source and get a little more specific information about it from: [URL].
I was windering, if you are writing a C program, I don't think you are supposed to commit the .o files and executables. How can you test your program without making a copy outside the git working dir?
I opened a text file and read some stuff. Then I (think) I closed it. Then I tried to open another one and it stopped working. It seemed to compile fine though. Why would this be?
i just fixed my old-ish laptop (pop accident) and instead of putting window on it my dad talked me into trying ubuntu out, gotta say love it, fast and everything but having major problems. i have a lenovo 3000 v200. everything is the same as out of the box except the keyboard, only thing i really needed to replace. ok problems
1) wireless is not working: i have the switch on (side of the laptop) and bluetooth lights up but wireless doesnt. (Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG). now i just learned about 'rfkill list' it shows that there is a soft block on the wireless. tried " rfkill unblock 0" nothing happened. also when i tried finding out wat kernel im using " uname-r" to find out more on why its not unblocking, the CLI says "comand isnt found" next two problems are small but are still frustrating
2) built in camera: the green light is on next to the lens but when trying to test the camera on skype or a photo program the video feed/ picture is black, or blank. not sure what i can do to fix that.
3) fingerprint scanner: yes i have one, i know its not efficient but I still like using it to login in instead of typing. im not sure how to get linux/ubuntu to recognize it if it even is. not sure how to set it up if it is recognized.
i would like to fix the wireless more than anything, if i can fix the camera and scanner then yeay, otherwise i can survive. oh and note i did try using the "additional drivers" app. nothing popped up.
I'm trying for the first time to use gpg to encrypt a file with a symmetric key, but gpg doesn't seem to respond when I use the -c switch.gpg -v -c filename.. just doesn't seem to do anything, nor to report any error, and just hangs until I hit ctrl-c.
Currently running Ubuntu 10.04. Recently had problems with panels not appearing but desktop responded as normal. NOW, it would appear my icons formerly occupying my desktop are gone, and i can no longer left or right click on the desktop or group select anything. All the panels function as they should, but now the desktop itself is not responding and as stated my desktop icons disappeared.
don`t know too much about ubuntu but i seem to have this weird problem...i`m running ubuntu 10.10 ,64-bit version, on my laptop [hp pavilion dv6 artist edition 2] and evey once in a while i can`t drag windows around like folders pidgin window and whatnot and also my keyboard is mainly non-responsive ...so far what i can do to fix this is ctr+alt+del and suspend or restart....but that`s really anoying
I bought a Philips CDRW/DVD CDD5263 from Amazon for my Acer Aspire One netbook. After plugging in both USB cords to the system, the drive is powered, will respond to the eject button on the drive itself, but I cannot do anything with it from the computer, namely watching DVDs. I have been using Ubuntu for about a year now, but I still don't know much about the inner workings. I would assume this is a driver or compatibility issue, but I thought I'd double check before returning it.
I'm trying to run xmonad, but the hot key alt+****+enter is not giving me the terminal. Is it because I haven't installed xterm?Right now I can't do anything on my machine because I cannot access terminal.I always boot to SLiM, and from there enter xmonad.By the way I'm running arch, I would post on the arch forums but I can't sign up since I need the terminal to run a verification code type thing
I have been looking at Ubuntu for a couple years and finally decided to give it a try on an old Dell laptop 1150.Managed to get it loaded on and it all came up, did the updates. But the desktop will not respond. When the mouse arrow passes over on the left side icons it will sometimes change the color of them but still won't do anything.I did a quick search but did not see anything relatedam an absolute rookie with this Linux thing. Did I make the right choice with Ubuntu?
